The Masters Series

Hernan Cattaneo

Renaissance celebrate the release of their 50th album with one of their favourite acolytes, Hernan Cattaneo…

There were only a handful of candidates to handle Renaissance’s 50th album milestone, but perhaps none more suited than Hernan Cattaneo. His previous entries into the series have established themselves as true classics, giving rise to calls, emails, even PM’s to the Renaissance office imploring us to re-secure the talents of the legendary South American.

In light of such demand, who were we to argue?

Add in the heightened anticipation of the fact it’s Hernan’s first compilation in two years and the stage is well and truly set, perfectly echoed in a recent post by one avid member of a dance message board, ‘Damn, this is a ‘must have’ compilation!’

And Hernan has clearly risen to the challenge. Working alongside various friends and producers from around the world he blurs the lines between artist album and compilation by including no less than 12 of his own originals, edits and remixes within the 29 strong, 2CD track list. “You’ve got to distinguish a compilation in this digital age,” he says, “It’s important fans and listeners feel they’re getting a unique mix, elevated beyond a standard club set. I hope this comes across with the album, it’s the product of many sleepless nights, hours in the studio and a lot of care and passion.”

Looking to the wider selection it’s clear Cattaneo hasn’t rested on his laurels as he features some of the brightest luminaries from the scene, taking in James Zabiela, Danny Howells, Guy Gerber, Timo Maas, Skylark, Guy J, Henry Saiz, plus many more, all segued by his flawless mixing style; yet another timeless addition to Hernan’s body of work and the Masters Series.
Any more updats on Hernan's 6hr set in Melb?
I'm actually a little worried at the moment . Where it had Melbourne before , it now just has Australia. These gigs have been changed a far bit since first announced.

he's good, but its not like he makes me go crazy!

his stuff is solid, but i prefer other dj's. personal taste!

#1207914Post 28 of 150

Re: Hernan Cattaneo Renaissance Master Series 3: countdown

^^^ Of course it's personal taste. :D Obviously he plays the music that I love, but it's also that he played the only perfect set I have ever heard. Not one missed beat. :D

His compilations are beautifully designed. The whole is way more than the sum of it's parts. :D

Re: Hernan Cattaneo Renaissance Master Series 3: countdown
Is he on some kind of commission thing with Soundexile do you think?
soundexile is formed by Oliverio and Baunder, two guys from argentina.

Oliverio works very close with him, so yep... he's got something with them. you can trust they made those tracks "hernan style" ;)

Lol, Hernan is a great DJ, period, so I wonder what "type of sound" these promoters or club-owners are talking about. He can do the techy stuff people are so into these days, just as well as the proggy stuff. The great DJ´s do that, they can come up with the goods when playing a bit differently, and through the course of a set, bring you into his playing field.

I crack myself up at the way some people insist on pigeonholing some artists or DJ´s and would think Hernan is already big enough to transcend that type of labeling.

Re: Hernan Cattaneo Renaissance Master Series 3: countdown

Yeah !! His genre is HERNAN !!!!!!!

#1208240Post 36 of 150

Re: Hernan Cattaneo Renaissance Master Series 3: countdown

Obviously this CD might not be a reflection of those 8 type sets he is capable of doing covering a large genre of sounds but if you get a chance to hear an extended set, it reminds you a lot of the radio show.

well i was asking him why the past few years he only plays miami at wmc....he used to come to miami at least one or two times in a year other then wmc. he said that the promotors at the clubs were no longer booking him. said they must be looking for a different sound. i guess miami is pretty weak for edm other than wmc.

Well yeah, but what I meant is that most promoters know fuck all about music and was wondering what "different sound" is that, because at the moment in my country, a lot of the same is happening.
