I have a stinking wisdom tooth that been there for a while but has suddenly decided to announce its appearance and has been driving me INSANE all week. Wtf..... haziel what about a free checkup dude. This shit is ANNOYING.

Get it sorted before you get pus in your gums, I've had that happening (fever too, all this while on an army field camp :what): My problem wisdom tooth was going horizontal and exceedingly large, the dentist cut my gum open and had to split the tooth into 3 pieces to remove it :shock:

Went under GA and had all 4 pulled, woke up swollen like a goldfish but I never had to worry about them again.

dood, that sounds impacted. time to get them removed before they become a serious health issue. my dad's a dentist...i've seen what can happen if you let things go too long with wisdom teeth.

The tooth has been around locked up in my gums unable to find a way through since the jawline was full. but persistent may have been the key here and the sucker has found a way to exit sideways from the back of the gums.

ok this is what you got to do

I know it will hurt like hell , but do it,

1. Brush and floss vigorously ( uh like that word ) between the wisdom tooth and the adjacent molar ( that means the one next to it ) after that do tons and tons of mouth wash , especially on that area where it hurts.

2. Take a pain killer - ibuprofen with something in the stomach

3 ) Go to sleep

repeats step one every 6 hours and take a pain killer if the pain is still there

*Avoid going up stairs, avoid anything that will give a rise on your blood pressure because it will increase the pain.

*Dont eat hot and spicy stuff. eat Ice-cream for today

It seems that you will need a surgical extraction so go to you Dentist asap

Don't wait any longer becase it will become an infection if you don't treat it soon.

I have medical, not dental :( $500 should be ok I guess, but seeing that this would be a bit of surgery to get to the tooth, I presumed it'd be +1K?

That's fucking nuts! I can get a tooth pulled for £40 at my dentist and thats a private one as in not NHS.

I've had some serious tooth pain in the past and when the shit is at it's worst, (ie. it feels like a hot rusty dagger is being twisted inside your gum), as you would experience with an abcess. My recommendation for what it's worth, is 2 Ibruprofen, 2 Co-Codomol and a couple of blue Diazepam every 4 hours. This will fend of the pain until you can get hold of some antibiotics (Penecilin or Amoxycilin). When you get these, double up the dose and the pain will fuck off for good within 48 hours.

Of course it's best in the long run to get the bastard taken out because the pain will always come back but that's a last resort for me because i hate going to the dentist.:x

You are going to give him all that just because he has a toothache? :shock:, what you posted up there is the protocol for a post op. major surgery.

The ibuprofen is enough for what he is got , to prescribe the other stuff you mentioned you would need to take a look at his xrays + do a clinical examination and last but not least a Medical History questionary .

I took extra strength tylenol post op for surgery involving my teeth/bite and found it to be more than adequate even though the dr. prescribed something heavier but I wanted to avoid that route.

Just a thought.

But if you have any Universities close to you check and see if they have a dental school and see if you could get it done there sometimes they give discounts. I dont know if they would do a procedure like this but its worth a try. Contrary to what some might think they actually are pretty good. I took advantage of it while I was in school and didnt have any insurance. Although I didnt have any major dental procedures done.

I can remember getting my wisdom teeth pulled. The feeling afterward was awesome. I ended up eating a hamburger that same night and didn't have any swelling.

Hey man, definitely see a dentist asap. I had an impacted wisdom tooth, let it grow, and when I finally got it removed (GA and all for at once) the molar next to it had gone bad/infected. Had to get a root canal because of that (about 10 years ago), and then a crown. Was Ok for about 9 years then the tooth get infected again (actually the bone underneath) and they finally had to surgically extract that tooth. Now I have to get an implant and a special crown...implant procedure is next week and is going to cost about $2500 and the crown probably another $1500. So, bottom line, take care of the wisdom tooth now for $500-$1000 before you end up spending 4 times that much down the line!

BTW, if its impacted and they have to do surgery just go the GA route man. Its better to just sleep and wake up and have everything over with.

Plus when you wake up, you feel really good for a couple of hours! ;-)

no need to go general anasthetic, as it costs more. vallium sedation (a pill beforehand) and you won't remember crap anyways, especially if you're only getting one tooth removed. personally though, i'd get all 4 taken out.

When I got a wisdom tooth out under a local anaesthetic I kept telling the surgeon I could still feel the needle until he told me it was impossible that I could still feel anything in my mouth and that he wouldn't give me any more. I still couldn't feel anything about 8 hours later when I went to sleep :) It hurt a fair bit the next day though. Anaesthetic works much better than painkillers.

Nonsense. Painkiller wise it's perfectly safe to take Ibruprofen with Paracetamol and Codeine and the vallium will chill him out until he gets the antibiotics. My dentist wouldn't have advised me to do it unless it was safe and i didn't need a visit to the Gastoenterologist, an x-ray, clinical examination or a medical history questionary....

Besides, Ibuprofen alone is not enough for severe toothache, it's anti inflammatory property is good but severe toothache requires a proper painkiller like codeine.

Well , like you said , your dentist that probably knows you from previous dental appointments, every patient is different and IMHO all that is way too much to take to any random person without even knowing what the patients medical history is.

You cannot just throw out medicine like that for everybody. if that would be the case ... hell why call the dentist for this sort of thing when you can just google the answer.

Aww hun I am sorry you are in pain and going through this :( I had an impacted wisdom tooth removed over a year ago and it got infected so I had to take antibiotics before I could have it removed. It was growing in sideways and had to be cut out....I was in pain for a bit, but they give you T3's which are wonderful, hehe.

Mine cost just over $500 CDN so you are probably looking at about the same and that is with being put under to have it removed.

I got all 4 pulled so this Game is over for me thanks God. 3 of them were like normal teeth when they were pulled and did not hurt at all but the last one was a Nightmare. I still have bad dreams about that day lol. I felt secure because the other wisdom teeth were no problem at all and I never understood others when they complained about their dental treatments. For the last one, it took the doctor over half an hour to get it out and he sat on me and used a lot of pressure and I still remember the sounds of the tooth cracking in my mouth. It took so long he had to give me another dose of the narcotics and in the end I was completely wet through with perspiration. Sorry Kamal, I know I am no help but I had to share this traumatic experience. :p Wisdom teeth suck and I am glad they are all out.
