This news was really tragic, when I woke up today and read the newspaper and the fron page was all about over 40 people try to escape in little boats to miami (long ass way... dangerous one too of course) and the numbers were sad, over 30 people drowned... 5 of them had to be revived, it was really sad.

I understand the economical situation is not at its best in this country... but people are fucking going mad, and this is obviously not a way to resolve their issues.

well.... peace ironz

I haven't caught the news yet, are we talking about Haiti or Cuba?

#300873Post 5 of 19

:( indeed

#300881Post 6 of 19

Most likely Cuba. I don't think i've ever heard of people trying to defect from Haiti. Mostly it's always Cuba.

Damn that's sad. I just saw that a dance troupe has tried to defect to america. Aparently they are getting it done and i'm very happy for them.

Maybe this will help change the view from other countries of this country so many of us call home. :?:

I believe the Dominican Republic. Definitely feel for your country ironz, it certainly can't be easy living there.

Re: over 30 people, dead.

The country im talking about is the Dominican Republic... in the majority of times low-class poor people try to flee to our neighbor island Puerto Rico... but from here to MIAMI is a very long ass way... I mean you really have to be MAD to try anything like this... another thing.

In my country there is practically no middle class... There is a High Class (extreme high) and a low class (which is even worse)... these people are desperate.. its just sad man, wish there was something practical I could do about it.

Peace ironz

That's so sad...when I lived in Florida, you would always hear about these sort of attempts on the news. Some made it and others didn't.

I read an article a few months ago about people from the DR making a boat, sailing for PR, and then getting lost in between. Some crazy crap happened...they had nothing to eat or drink. :(

I think you've taken the first step by recognizing that your country has a serious problem on its hands. You may not be able to do anything about it today, but in time you and others that think similarly will come up with some solutions. Keep the faith brother!

Truly sorry about what's going on with your country man, I never hear any news on the Dominican Republic.

Jeff Collins: You never heard about the Coast Guard spraying the Haitian Refugees with high-powered fire hoses as they were approaching the shores of Florida? Now that was seriously fucked up!

But what's going to happen to people from the DR who make it to America? Can they claim repression on political grounds or is it just poverty. If its just poverty then I'm guessing that they just get sent straight back unless their intending to live as illegals.

If they step foot on American soil, then they get to stay. I believe most of them claim political asylum.

send them to canada....canada welcomes everyone with open arms...even terrorists....

#304346Post 18 of 19

Oh man, that's kinda harsh in itself. Even our country has freakin terrorists in it. You can't stop them all. Just as you can't stop all the drug dealers and the gangsters.
