Hardee's unveils new 'Monster' Fast-food chain's new burger -- with 1,400 calories and 107 grams of fat -- will cost you $5.49.

Fans of Hardee's new "Monster Thickburger" may end up making "Big Mac" lovers look like waif-like supermodels.

As many fast-food restaurants cut back the fat and calories in their offerings, Hardee's Food Systems Inc. is betting that Americans are ready to sink their teeth into its new and improved "Monster" burger.

St. Louis-based Hardee's said its new burger boasts two 1/3-pound slabs of Angus beef, four strips of bacon, three slices of American cheese and some mayonnaise -- all on a buttered, toasted, sesame seed bun.

The "Monster Thickburger" will cost about $5.49, Hardee's said. But chowing down on the 1,420-calorie burger, which contains 107 grams of fat, will cost around $7 with fries and a soda.

"The (original) 'Monster Burger' was one of our most popular menu items," Brad Haley, executive vice president of marketing for Hardee's, said in a statement. "(But) it's now a 'Thickburger.'"

Many fast-food chains, including McDonald's (Research) and Wendy's International (Research), have tried to offer healthier menu items to cater to Americans on low-fat, low-carb diets.

But Hardee's said the "Monster Thickburger" is not all it has to offer on its menu.

"In about 30 days, we will be introducing a BBQ chicken sandwich that would only have 4 grams of fat and 300 calories. We just have a wide range of selections for everybody," Haley said.
I've never eaten Hardies before, not even sure if they have any "restuarants" here.
When I visited California 5 months ago I'd never heard of Carl's Jr. My buddy took me there, and I realized they're practically the same place... the buildings look the same, it's the same stupid star logo, the menu looks identical, etc. If you've had Carls Jr, you've probably had Hardees.

Click this link and it shows "Hardees" and "Carls Jr" on the same image. http://www.carlsjr.com/home/

You paint with very broad brush but i like your point sir.

Tell you what, I've had fast food maybe 4 times in the past 8 years, and I don't ever plan to try the Thickburger, but thank god somebody has enough balls to offer this type of product.

We've become prisoners of our own political correctness and unwillingness to accept responsibility for our actions, a condition which is reaching epidemic proportions in this country. "Super Size Me" had the (unintended?) consequence of limiting our choices. Instead of having the right to practice our own self control, we are now victims of corporate censorship by removing these products from the market.

Smart marketing move by Hardees to usurp the ground evacuated by all those other gutless fast food chains. There are people out there who want this shit, and this is the United Fucking States of America where if I want a 10,000 calorie burger, than I better goddamn well be able to get one.

#300646Post 23 of 36

i was thinking Subway when i came in i think i'll go with the 'supersize me' recommendation, seeing that my appetite has already been ruined.

good...you can then pay the ridiculous hospital costs of heart surgery later on in life...if you can even afford it.

Not worth $5.49 if you ask me...

#300827Post 26 of 36

Oh yeah, I'm all for supply and demand, commerce, and eating. However, grossly fat people are an eye sore! An ex-girlfriend said to me once: "it's not their fault they're fat."

Bless her heart. She was quick to defend obesity until I asked who was to blame for the 40% of Americans lacking self-control? She's probably at Hardee's right now.

Kobe- I'm with you all the way here but I remember when I was little McDonalds had a such thing as a small order of frys. Before they stopped the supersize option, the smallest order you could get was what was the largest when I was a kid. I agree that people should excersicse self control but when the future generations are raised on larger and larger portions large intakes are considered 'normal' to them. Add to the fact that most kids are told to finish what is on their plate. So I think the industry holds some responsibility here in cutting back their portions... you still have the option then just to order double but then its a concencious choice.

Besides I think the food industry should be eager to make that change, since smaller portions = more $$.

#300854Post 28 of 36

perhaps there is a happy median in there? Again, I find fast food vile, regardless of portion. I just don't like this idea of surrendering freedoms, sacrificing options.
