I put this in the lay off thread but I'm mad so I'm posting it in it own thread

My employers are CUNTS.

They where approached by one of the local collages after it was announced we would be laid off for 4 months. The collage said it would arrange loads of courses for employees to do while we where laid off. Anything from IT, Construction, HGV, Business Management etc and Maths & English. The company said it wasn't interested. The collage then approached our Trade Union with the same offer. The Union agreed and set up 3 open days for Associates to attend. I enrolled in 3 IT courses + Maths & English and was due to start next week. I phoned up today to find out that my employer has to sign off for the college to get the funding from the government has refused. They have also told the collage that if they continue with the courses they will fail to do any business with the company in the future. My employer funds a technical training programme with the college and as one of the largest employers in the area the collage cant afford to lose their business. So all our courses have been Axed:evil::evil::evil:

Re: My employers are CUNTS.

it's not costing your company anything right?

that's ridiculous.. they probably dont want you to go out and better yourself so you can maybe get a job whilst being laid off

sorry to hear this :(

No its not costing them anything. The company has signed off on courses for 12 people out of over 1000. They claim the courses are recreational. I've never really thought of education as recreational.

#1184455Post 7 of 28

Re: My employers are CUNTS.

but you were just laid off.. even it was recreational, is that such a bad thing? are you just meant to sit at home worrying and rotting away hoping they may call you to come back to work...

I sincerely hope you find a really good job elsewhere and can tell this place to SHOVE IT!

Re: My employers are CUNTS.

I spoke to a woman at the Collage who has put months of work into arranging everything and she is trying to get us courses outside the county. She was really upset about it as well.

Yes, they sound like cunts to me too. It's sad how a former employer will turn on you so quickly and treat its employees bad.

In my case they are my current employer. I'm back at work in 2 months

Re: My employers are CUNTS.

Chunky if I were in your position, I would spend the next two months looking for a new employer. If what you described is how they treat their employees, it's time to move on, there are better employers out there.

Re: My employers are CUNTS.

It's great to know employers are taking advantage of the current economic climate by taking the piss out of the people who work for them, knowing full well that it's a difficult time to find work elsewhere. Wank! :(

Re: My employers are CUNTS.

That does sound fucked up. Surely they must have SOME reason for doing this? There doesn't seem to be anything for them to gain by just being spiteful?

The courses I was taking where all IT based which would of given me better qualified than some of their Business Administration staff to progress within the company. Some of the other courses could encourage people to leave the company.

Oddly we have been laid off for 4 months all Business Administration staff have not. Even though their is no work for us to do.

Same as the place i was in. All office staff stayed. Production got the chop.

Re: My employers are CUNTS.

So many companies all over the world seem to be using the economic downturn as an excuse to do anything they want.

I reckon Barak Obama would be pretty pissed off that government money wasn't used to to help employees in this case.

Re: My employers are CUNTS.

Hang in there mate ... this just seems silly, if it encourages some people to leave surely they would want that in the current climate .. maybe they feel pissing you all off will have the same effect. Crazy.

Any employer that doesn't want their staff to improve and better themselves are fools.

Like you said - cunts!

Ain't that the truth

This shit is really starting to hurt people here in Ireland

Re: My employers are CUNTS.

I went to a meeting yesterday with our local Member Of Parliament regarding the collage courses. She has agreed to lobby this to take away the guidelines that require the Current or Last Employer having to sign off the courses. Fortunately another collage has come forward and said the will do there best it hold all the canceled courses at their collage even if they can't get the funds for them. The most annoying thing for me is I would like to go public on what the company has done but I've have been told it could jeopardize the courses at the new college.

Re: My employers are CUNTS.

The Digweed night at Zouk was called "Fuck Work" ... seems verty appropriate. Hopefully that mp will get on the case.

The new collage rang me earlier today and asked if I wanted to start one of the IT courses next week, but I'm in London for Bedrock so I'm starting in 2 weeks time hopefully.
