Re: Abstinence from alcohol

I'm not teetotal but pretty close . Definitely not my drug of choice! A vodka and tonic at home before I hit a club! I've actually gone off wine as well, if I go out to dinner 1 1/2 glasses is my limit . I always feel kind of left out when the fun drunk threads are happening. Btw I didn't think anyone noticed that I didn't drink until I did have a couple in a club recently , The number of people who commented was a tad embarrassing!!

If I was told I could never have alcohol again it wouldn't worry me at all :D

^^^ such a great beer, bigger fan of the negra though.

My favorite beer is Abita. Locally brewed in Abita Springs, Louisiana, their beer is top notch. The Strawberry Harvest is in season at the moment and is fantastic.

Re: Abstinence from alcohol

as the resident alcholic and village drunk i will say i cant give it up. i love it. i live in a place that is essentially a smal confined city in huntington, and yes, i love it, its worth it. but do it under controlled terms. im often out for 1-3 a few weeknights with friends after dinner, as some live very very closeby, but you dont go nuts'

granted, on friday and sat, since i dont have to drive to get to teh bar, i walk, i get fucking blasted and have an alchohol issue.
I think wine may be the way forward - I have always liked the taste of red wine, but only after a few beers. Can't say I've ever had wine with an evening meal so I suppose it's worth a shot.
I would love to drink wine in the pub but u try getting one of those in with the boys!

Yes it is. Don't know if this one gets distributed as far as the others that aren't seasonal. They've only been brewing it for a few years now, and each year the demand gets higher and higher.

On of my favorites is to mix Turbodog with Andygator aka Terminator

You'd think it wouldn't be any good with fruit in it right? This and their Purple Haze made with Rasberry will prove that thought wrong sir.

Me, Bender, my fiance and some other close friends went to the Abita brew pub a few weekends ago to take the brewery tour. The tour is free and you drink all you want for free while you wait for the tour to start.

I got smashed and dropped $50 at the gift shop, so I guess it wasn't completely free :)

Re: Abstinence from alcohol

not a fan of the purple haze. i like a good wheat in the summer, and if it's really hot and i'm on a beach i'll drop a slice of orange in a blue moon or a wheat beer, but beyond that i'm more of a less fruit flavor in my beer guy. i like the bitters. i like the hops.

re: this whole thread, that saying goes- quality > quantity? no...quality & quantity. drink fantastically crafted alcohol, and drink a lot of it. the cheap stuff isn't worth it. if your palate isn't enjoying it, you're wasting your time.

Re: Abstinence from alcohol

funny this should come up...

been off the booze for a good 3 months till this weekend i went out and had a couple beers at the local club. The next morning i was pretty hungover from about 6 bottles of beer. I think my liver is spent. So back to abstinence for me... i just had to dip back in to remind myself... LOL

Re: Abstinence from alcohol

My fathers father was a alcoholic, my dad was an alcoholic and I am an alcoholic.......

Hi my name is Nick...... (chorus) hi nick.

became very overweight recently due to me stopping smoking so I went on a diet called weighless in SA. Its were you weigh your food for every meal.

I have lost 6 kgs so far and I only drink on a monday night 2-3 Johhny red's then back on the wagon for the rest of the week.

1 beer/ 1 tot = 1 fat serving

Beleive me if I could drink every day I would. I love the stuff.

I hear ye :D

Having said that, I think it can get very out of hand if you let it. All I know is that I'm laying off that shit for a while. Well maybe the occasional glass of Bogle red wine ;)

Life can be good without it

#1184015Post 57 of 76

Re: Abstinence from alcohol

I really only drink during the weekend. However once I start I have no limit. After a couple beers my urge to drink increases exponentially. I'm certain I have an alcohol dependence but I have no desire to just quit.

I'm really trying to figure out ways to force myself into moderation. If I go to a club or bar I'll only bring a certain amount of cash and leave my credit card at home. I can easily spend near $100 on a night out...

#1184028Post 58 of 76

Re: Abstinence from alcohol

well, i'm at the point where i'll just contemplate if i'm down to drink, or if it's not wise to then and there; then i'll just swiftly choose -- yes or no. it's not a matter of pressure or dependence for me.

tis almost spring too, so i'm gonna be doin' a lot more hefeweizens with lemon, and or cherry wheats... mmmm

Ha ha, I'm not gonna go teetotal completely, just considering it - I think it's definitely an option in years to come!

Re: Abstinence from alcohol

I don't drink on weekdays. weekends usually mildly one night and hard one night, though sometimes both fri & sat...

find if i keep it to that i'm fairly well behaved, don't have a problem with consuming too many calories from beer, and generally feel good.

to all those pointing to studies that say a little alcohol consumption each day is good for you...the findings are mixed. there are certain health benefits to small amounts each day (ie. it thins your blood), there is also likely a higher risk of cancer from even small daily amounts of alcohol. so the jury is still out on that...

you want the real health benefit? take red wine capsules each day...they have all the benefits of a glass without any alcohol.

Re: Abstinence from alcohol

I'm doing 40 days without for Lent....over 3 weeks in and I've craved a beer at most only because it's getting really hot here....no nasty hangovers screwing up my weekend mornings...although I know once I'm back, it'll be with a vengeance LOL....

#1184826Post 65 of 76

Re: Abstinence from alcohol

When I lived in l.a. I used to drink a lot and act like a douche when I was drunk, I guess alcohol wasn't the adequate drug for me.

I can recall the bad hangovers, the dry mouth , the discapacity to do anything the next day .I dont miss none of that shit.

Now I dont drink on week days, only when i go out, but then again I don't go out as much as before , because this fucking city where i'am at sucks...so pretty much I can say I DONT DRINK ANYMORE.

I guess now I've become a nice respectable pussy :what

Re: Abstinence from alcohol

I went out last night, wasn't in the mood at all really but went to give my mate moral support after he had lost his job (called his boss a knob on facebook then wondered why he gets the bullet!).

Anyway, had just 4 beers and just felt ill, couldn't physically drink any more so went home before 12 - I wonder if I'm developing a reaction to beer :)

mind over matter, my friend.

i figure working out, running and playing lots of sports all the time pretty much justifies me getting plastered on the weekends, lol.
