MIAMI, Florida (AP) -- Police used a stun gun on a 6-year-old boy in his principal's office because he was wielding a piece of glass and threatening to hurt himself, officials said Thursday.

The boy, who was not identified, was shocked with 50,000 volts on October 20 at Kelsey Pharr Elementary School.

Principal Maria Mason called 911 after the child broke a picture frame in her office and waved a piece of glass, holding a security guard back.

When two Miami-Dade County police officers and a school officer arrived, the boy had already cut himself under his eye and on his hand.

The officers talked to the boy without success. When the boy cut his own leg, one officer shocked him with a Taser and another grabbed him to prevent him from falling, police said.

He was treated and taken to a hospital, where he was committed for psychiatric evaluation.

"By using the Taser, we were able to stop the situation, stop him from hurting himself," police spokesman Juan DelCastillo told The Miami Herald.

The case was under review.
This also recently happened in Orlando but it was on a 12 year old girl at her middle school. The girl hardly stands 5 feet tall and weighs roughly 90 pounds. The situation happened where the girl was jumped by a group of 3 other girls and the school resource officer was the one that used his/her taser on the victim.

Scary topic... sounds like the boy was out of control, they had him committed. I have witnessed officers tase someone in my apartment complex. They shot him several times in the chest... tell me that doesn't hurt. The barbs have to be surgically removed. Was it in Orlando where the man was killed by a taser?
Was it in Orlando where the man was killed by a taser?
It's happened a couple of times in Orlando. Our own sherrif went on the local t.v. to get tased to 'prove' that it's 'no big deal'. The local authorities have been investigated on several occassions due to unneccesary use of their tasers. It will be hard though to ever prove that they're acting outside of their boundaries since there is no citizen review board and they are investigated by a group of their peers.

So for you ska, or anyone else living in Florida.

heat does weird things to peoples heads cz. wanna come chill sometime?

#298961Post 7 of 26

Oh I've been there. At least your night life kicks ass, I was clubbing at 18 and drinking like a fish. One of the few places I don't think I've ever been carded. Even the hotel bar I was staying at didn't card me.

Re: Police use stun gun on 6-year-old boy

a friend of mine was training to be a police officer and she told me that as part of the training, every cadet gets shot with a tazer. ouch!

#299114Post 13 of 26

they have to go through all of it, don't they? sprayed with pepper spray, stun gun, etc

#299115Post 14 of 26

^^ Yeah, my brother is going through the academy right now and that's part of their training.

#299222Post 15 of 26

ok, how hard is it to wrestle a piece of glass away from a SIX YEAR OLD? that they needed to use a tazer on the kid is pathetic. next thing you know they'll be zapping anyone who looks at them the wrong way.

#299230Post 16 of 26

Yeah. Can't be too hard, can it?

Happens on a weekly basis down here already. Hence the reason the Orlando PD and Orange County SD have been investigated numerous times.

I think one day soon we will see the end of the tazer. My mothing works for the schools as an investigator for the state of florida ( a big name for a cop lol ) anyways shes only 5 foot 5 and can kick some ass. I really dont see why the 2 of them couldnt get the boy. lmao what a joke, just another cops play god. There was no reason for that and I think the both of them should be kicked out. It must really make you feel big to say that you did that to a 6 year old boy
MIAMI, Florida (CNN) -- Police in Miami are reviewing their policy on using Tasers after officers stunned two children with the weapons in the past few weeks. Miami-Dade police planned to hold a news conference Monday to discuss the incidents and possible disciplinary action stemming from them. The names of both children were being withheld by CNN.

The Taser temporarily immobilizes someone from as far away as 21 feet with 50,000 volts of electricity. The more recent of the two incidents occurred November 5, when a 12-year-old girl who was skipping school was found drinking and smoking in a swimming pool, Miami-Dade police officer William Nelson stated in an incident report. He said he responded to an anonymous call about the activities. He said he told the girl he was taking her to school. As they walked to the police car, she ran away.

"I advised her to stop several times," he said in the report. She "continued running even to the point of starting to run into lanes of traffic."

Nelson said he used the Taser for his and the girl's safety, striking her in the base of the neck and lower right back. The girl was released into her mother's custody and taken to a doctor.

"I couldn't breathe, and I was, like, nervous, and I was scared at the same time," the girl told CNN.

About two weeks earlier, a first-grader was shot with a Taser at school when he threatened to cut his leg with a piece of broken glass, authorities said. The boy's family said he vomited after the jolt.

"If there's three officers, it's nothing to tell a 6-year-old holding a glass, if you feel threatened, 'Hey, here's a piece of candy, hey, here's a toy. Let the glass go,'" the boy's mother told CNN.

But police insisted using the gun was the only option.

"We're happy [to be] here talking about this as opposed to injuries he might have caused to himself with that piece of glass," detective Juan del Castillo said.

Community activists are calling for a meeting with police.

"There needs to be more in-depth study on using the Taser on children," Georgia Ayers said. Taser International says more than 5,000 police agencies use its product, that it is safe to use on anyone weighing at least 60 pounds.

"I couldn't breathe, and I was, like, nervous, and I was scared at the same time," the girl told CNN.
Couldn't breathe? Well stop skipping school to smoke cigarettes.

thats fuckin stupid, the kid was only 6.... thats just too young to be shot by anything..

I dont think ive ever heard of a six year old cutting themselves...

weird..

#299892Post 21 of 26

haha ... freaking cuban kids!

#299894Post 22 of 26

no, it's not pathetic....just because they can wrestle him down with ease, doesn't throw out the chance of one of them being struck by the glass....on top of that, had the kid resisted and sliced one of them, it would have been assault on an officer....for the kids own safety and sanity, it was good that he got some "shock therapy."

i dont know if any of you have seen this, but about 2 weeks ago they had an episode of COPS called "TASED AND CONFUSED" i shit you not. the whole episode was the cops tasing people, and not that i'm sick, but some of it was pretty fucking funny, they've been playing clips of it on stern lately...

#300908Post 24 of 26

Please tell me stuff like this happens in other countries as well. I only hear about twisted children in America. What are the troubled children up to around the world?

This is a true story...

My neighbor had his music up pretty loud Halloween night, and a Sheriff deputy came by to investigate the complaint. Said neighbor had too much to drink so decided to argue with the officer about the legalities that prohibited the cop from coming onto his property. The officer asked my neighbor to get on the ground, he resisted, so the cop hit him with the TAZER...

This fucking guy stood straight up, shivered a little bit, looked at the charges stuck to his chest, ripped them out, and threw them down. He then looked at the officer and said: "Now, was that necessary?"

The cop took 3 steps back and pulled his gun out.

I went inside...didn't hear shots fired; the neighbor complied.
