Has anyone got any proof of this other than Runcorn Dave's say so? Runcorn is a long way from OZ

Re: Chris Fortier to do another balance

I found his last Balance 3 x CD offering a complete disappointment, and was (frankly) gutted.

Can't really get into Chris's new stuff either.

Shame ... as he was immense up til late-2004.

Re: Chris Fortier to do another balance

I never got into him at all to be honest. I bought his Bedrock CD back in 2002 and saw him live on at least 3 occasions that year, but he never did it for me.

Re: Chris Fortier to do another balance

I think his recent JJJ mixup was pretty alright, quite proggy.

I thought Balance 007 was amazing. Up there with one of the best Balance compilations. Second to Holden of course.

Re: Chris Fortier to do another balance

Anything with RITM Timebomb on it is alright imo ;)

And his studio album was good.

I think what they're saying is Fortier's minimal sound is not doing it for him.

Same here....Some boring plodding tech-house lately from him...I like my tech-house, but he has been boring me to death lately.

I mean, he is/was a pioneer here in Florida back when, but lately he seems to have taken a back seat with his recent sets...

His Bedrock album is amazing. But, that's pure prog. You won't see albums that like anymore.

#1165159Post 17 of 36

Re: Chris Fortier to do another balance

^ i wouldn't assume that to be entirely correct. in my honest opinion, i think 'prog' is just so vast and differentiated nowadays, that it would be hard to tell in exactitude. i can think of quite a few acts(at least under certain aliases) that might put out something like that. idunno, perhaps you are right.

anyways, lets hope he delivers this time. havn't been all that hyped for chris's most recent work.

i reckon that desyns was the best balance! but this should be great!

Re: Chris Fortier to do another balance

are some of u guys nuts?? His balance was prob the best along with Holden and Pappa.

#1165210Post 20 of 36

Re: Chris Fortier to do another balance

yeah his blance wasnt stand out!

however, i'm not liking this concpet of djs doing more than one cd in a series or adding on another cd.

i would have prefered a new dj

I'm probably nuts. I loved Holden's balance

I love Fortier's Kiss from April 12th 2002 part 1

#1165676Post 22 of 36

Re: Chris Fortier to do another balance

Yeah I'd rather see a new Desyn mix cd for Balance....or just someone new to the series altogether. Like they have done in the past.

Re: Chris Fortier to do another balance

im definately nuts, i love chris fortiers balance, and holdens (man, holdens is awesome) but if i had to take only one to a desert island it would be desyns.

I LOVE disc 2 and 3 more than disc 1 for some reason, but im always glad of the fortier...

does anyone remember his 2001 - 2000 ish appearence on diggers kiss show? a fucking cranker of a set if i ever heard one.

#1165768Post 24 of 36

Re: Chris Fortier to do another balance

Digweed should do a Balance :p:lol:

Re: Chris Fortier to do another balance

I'm having such a hard time believing you guys like Desyn's Balance so much. I think it's the worst one of the series along with SOS. I put his on earlier just to make sure and there's so many sounds and vocals that aren't even close to something I want to hear. No offense, to each his own.

I also think the .1 follow up discs are kinda cool. Allows those same djs to add to there previous comps. And these discs won't take away from fresh talent to carry on the series.

yea, his kiss set from 2000 along with taylor's are the 2 sets that COMPLETELY changed the sound that me, clintlove, and highdesert listened to. i can distinctly remember conversations with highdesert in our new house about how it was so different from anything we had listened to and us discovering what progressive house truely was! definately cherished moments in my life right there!!!

Desyn´s Balance is a double-CD, isn´t it :?:

Re: Chris Fortier to do another balance

I was really into Fortier's sound for years, and I thought (and still think) that his Bedrock CD was brilliant.

Then he released Balance 7 and it was a major let down for me, the new sound he was playing was just not my bag at all. If it wasn't for the mix into Bent on CD2 (best mix ever IMO) I would probably have ebayed it long ago.

His recent sets I have heard have not done much for me either. Kudos to him for mixing things up a bit but it's just not for me

And finally, I must be the only one who thinks that his 2 hour kiss mix from years ago is not that special

Re: Chris Fortier to do another balance

Didnt like his balance release at all...

Re: Chris Fortier to do another balance

Wow, some really interesting opinions here. However, I definitely take the side of clintlove and johns and think 007 was one of the best of the series.

Also, I think the .1 idea is great. It just goes to show much the guys like to work on the Balance series and put together whatever they like without the restrictions of the labels opinion.

[quote=lucky charms;709483]^ i wouldn't assume that to be entirely correct. in my honest opinion, i think 'prog' is just so vast and differentiated nowadays, that it would be hard to tell in exactitude. i can think of quite a few acts(at least under certain aliases) that might put out something like that. idunno, perhaps you are right.

^^ I think prog house as we know it died many many years ago. Yes, there are variations of it now but ultimately it's not a genre that stands on it's own two feet. People dabble with it and in some cases it works, but in most it's just pushing a dry boring sound (for me anyway). I would rather put "prog" into a category of style of mixing and programming rather than a particular sound. I'm quite comfortable to say that someone like Digweed has a mixing/programming style that is very progressive... but, as we all know he doesn't play prog or prog house. It's a little more than just clever layering, but really working tracks together to create a groove and mood - that's how I see it now, if at all.

Balance 007 seems like marmite on here then!

Looking forward to his new mix

Me loves it too. Looking back this love-hate-thing already happened when he released his Bedrock-album.

Cheers, G.

Re: Chris Fortier to do another balance

I got an email from Fortier about the new Balance CD, only still in talks right now. Not confirmed but still working on initial contract negiotations and such.

Personally, as a big fan and close friend of Chris Fortier. I've known Chris for along time and have heard from his beginnings and own many of his early 90's mix tapes to his current releases and CD compilations. I didn't really like the Balance CD's at first. It took a good listening and they slowly grew on me. And I think lately, a lot the music especially the CD compilations take time to mature like a fine wine. For many that come out of the stable hard and fast and in your face, you seem to love them right away but don't have longetivity with a few exceptions. I think the better ones slowly get better through more time and more listens. IMHO.

..still one of the few locked in and all-time fave DJ comps in my main iPod.

Yeah it's a 2XCD, Fortier's mix was the first one to be 3Xcd's.

Re: Chris Fortier to do another balance

Seeing as the 'As Long As The Moment Remixed' project is still ongoing (EP5 due soon), it will be a little while before any 7.1 appears as theres talks that all the EPs and other remixes will be presented as part of an album.
