Re: Twitter

Nah there's a whole bunch of clients for OS X beginning with Twitterific, and then Twhirl, and then Tweetdeck, and now Nambu. Most of them require AIR which I can't be fucked installing, I'm holding out against it, didn't make much sense for me to install a layer just to run an app. Just discovered Nambu today which combines the features of Tweetdeck and Twhirl and has thread conversations, and a low memory footprint, so I figured why not.

Re: Twitter

this site has always had capacity problems, it is a running joke about their service outages because they have always been pretty bad.

the site is exploding in popularity the last 6 months, so they really need to do some reengineering of their site setup or they are going to be in some big hurting. i can barely use the web interface during the day because it is so slow or doesnt respond.

Re: Twitter

It's an Aussie invasion! The service has suddenly caught on here and over the past few months, everyone I know is suddenly on it.

Prior to this, I've read reports that Twitter has actually been improving or maintaining its up time.

Re: Twitter

First of all I don't see the added value of Twitter. What do I care what my buddies are doing at any given time of the day/night? If I want to know, I'll call them or look them up in real. Social skills, y'know?

Secondly I'm getting fed up with this cyber exhibitionism. On one hand everybody is concerned about their privacy, but on the other hand they give a status update for every single futility.

Seriously.

Re: Twitter

^ word, seriously. i won't get into it, but it's a burning ground for aspirants and nubs anyways. i hope it flourishes, for the interwebs sake.

Get your panties out of a bunch and step into the 21st century :p

Its unfortunately the way of the future (for now anyways), so you'd better get use to hearing about stuff like this.....its the "need to know everything about anyone and everyone generation"

I didn't think I would like Twitter at first either (especially since someone else out there has DancingQueen ), but since I joined to check it out, I actually find it useful at times. Sure there are the random "what are you doing" updates, but there is a lot more to it than that. There are news updates, financial tips, cooking tips, music release notifications etc. Twitter is what you make it really.

Re: Twitter

for me its just too much, i already have myspace, facebook and a couple of messenger services, plus the time i spend at local forums and ms.

im trying to cut down on my "online" time as much as posible, since i trully think that a lot of it is a waste of time.

Re: Twitter
Twitter is what you make it really.
This is the best description of why Twitter has value that I've heard, I think, and it is 100% correct. The fact that you are constrained to 140 characters, combined with the fact that it is extremely light and mobile, provides a lot of opportunities for creativity and unexpected uses. If you look at Twitter as literally just another way to answer the question, "What are you doing right now," you're kinda missing the point and missing out on some of its potential.

Re: Twitter
WHY OLD PEOPLE LOVE THE TWITTERS: “To a person with short-term memory loss, Twitter serves a vital function: every time the user announces, ‘Going across the street to get ice cream,’ they notify not only their 30,000-odd ‘followers,’ but they also establish a record for themselves so that if they end up across the street wondering what on earth they’re doing staring at a pint of Haagen-Dazs, they need only check their Twitter status for the magical answer. And then they can ‘tweet’ about their ice cream, which is important!”
http://wonkette.com/tag/pt-annals-of-sociology/

See, it serves loads of useful functions!

well said. I think it will completely change or destroy how people socialize completely. I work in technology but truly see how things like this will destroy all of us. I remember the day where you had to use a pay phone to call someone when you were out and about. Hell, you were king if you had your own phone line at your folks house. To each their own.

BTW, I think toasty will use it to tweet each time he takes a shit  or when his maid does
