So been debating lately about getting some cd players. just wanted to see if anyone has any experience with both of these decks. I would love to go for the mkIII 1000's but dont feel like shelling out that much money as i primarly spin vinyl.

any comments or thoughts greatly appreciated.

Re: Denon DNS3500 or CDJ800MKII

if you eventually get into spinning all cd's. or you spin a lot more cd's than vinyl. I do recommend getting at least one cdj-1K, that way when you are in the clubs, you know what you are working with, and can use them well.

Re: Denon DNS3500 or CDJ800MKII

^that.

if you ever plan on playing outside your bedroom, you'll never see a denon in a club.

Re: Denon DNS3500 or CDJ800MKII

Yepper, you really won't see denon's in a club, unless it's a cheap club, who doesn't spend much $ on sound.

I would go for the cdj's but don't know the differences between the 800s and 1000s.... maybe someone can give us a clue

I definitely agree that it's helpful to have the industry standard at home b/c then you can practice on exactly what you'll be using in the club 99% of the time.

However, the general layout and function of the CDJ-200s/400s/800s are identical to the CDJ 1000s.

So basically, if you own a pair of CDJ 200s (or 400s/800s) and have to play on a pair of CDJ-1000s for the first time in a club you'll be able to use them immediately and honestly have no trouble adjusting up to them.

(this would not hold true if you bought another brand, i.e. Denon)

Re: Denon DNS3500 or CDJ800MKII

Also, what kind of music do you spin? And how important is pitch adjustment for you? (Do you do a lot of long transitions?)

The DNS3500s have much finer pitch adjustment at .02% while the 800s only offer .05%

If the 800s had .02% pitch adjustment they'd be the perfect CD player imo. Their lack of precise pitch adjustment is the biggest problem I have with them and is the reason I went with the CDJ-400s (which I'm very happy with and would also highly recommend)

the 200 responds way differently than the 800/1000.

Re: Denon DNS3500 or CDJ800MKII

just get whatever you can afford for your home studio, if you ever play out, it shouldnt take you more than a couple of mixes to get used to whatever gear the venue has

one of the reasons i was looking at the denons is because of the pitch adjustment. pitch adjustment is very important for me as my transitions are between 2-3 minutes long most of the time.

i just kinda have hard time justifing paying that much for 1000's when i probably wont get past being a bedroom/internet radio dj....lets just say Rhode Island doesnt have the biggest scene for progressive house :FuckOff:

Re: Denon DNS3500 or CDJ800MKII

So make a scene bro. That's what DJ JD did and now he's known as John Digweed.

Re: Denon DNS3500 or CDJ800MKII

denon for sure. the only reason you see pioneers in clubs is cause the club owner isn't a dj. any neither are you if you think pioneers are better than denons. ;)

Re: Denon DNS3500 or CDJ800MKII

I have never played on Denons but I can tell you that when i went digital last year I bought CDJ 800's and absolutely love them. The only thing I hate is that when I go to play records with friends, I have a hard time adjusting to 1200's again, even though I have some but never use them anymore. I feel that I play better than ever since I have spent the time learning how to use the CDJ's.

My biggest problem is that I just don't know where to go from here.... Better mixer (a+h or what?) or actually start spinning off of my Mac book

I would live some advice I play mostly techno and progressive house

Any help would be appreciated Get the CDJ's--you won't be sorry at all

Re: Denon DNS3500 or CDJ800MKII

Pioneer, you won't make a mistake by taking any of those mentioned upstairs all in all, whatever you decide, but you will find yourself missing a Pio when you play some club and you see Pio in front of you and you got used to Denons at home, 's not the feeling i'd like to expirience cuz i did once :] ..and i felt like playing football with ballet shoes x((( scary for a moment, needed ~10mins to be sure about what i'm doing and i dont want those 10mins to repeat..

Re: Denon DNS3500 or CDJ800MKII

Get neither. Pioneer's CDJ800's are about to be replaced by end of year or beginning of next. Denon 3500 is rumored to be discontinued. Shelf life of both curernt models is dismal in the next year.

I would recommend the CDJ400's instead. Great compact product with lots of new features that Pioneer plans on implementing into the new CDJ-800 and CDJ-1000 models. The 400 shares some the internal electronics of the 1000.

As far as Denon, I would be hesitant to buy anything from them at this point. The DJ division may possibiy be on the chopping block or most likely be a very trimmed down product line due to very dismal sales in the past couple years. Denon/Marantz seem to be focusing their efforts towards their consumer electronics division which is their bread and butter revenue stream.

Re: Denon DNS3500 or CDJ800MKII

I worked in the commercial pro audio, video and lighting industry - off and on for a decade or so but still keep up since I do freelance contracting and consulting for local clubs in my area. Also, my cousin is a manufacturer's rep for Pioneer ProDJ and he keeps me updated on what's currently happening in his job as well. He also reps for the Harmon company (JBL, Crown, dbx) as well as Stanton DJ products. I also keep in contact with lots of other reps as well since through the years have become very close friends with many of them.

Re: Denon DNS3500 or CDJ800MKII

Just found out from cousin, PIONEER WILL BE ANNOUNCING AT THE DJ EXPO IN NEW JERSEY THIS COMING AUGUST 2009...new products. VERY HUSH HUSH. Only for Dealers at first but most likely to consumers to Christmas Holiday and early next year delivery.

rumor is a new upgraded CDJ-1000 with a larger COLOR LCD screen that will show waveforms and/or other additional info. requested by their international DJ endorsee's. CDJ-400 functions added in. Also, additional MIDI mapping for use as a decent controller. The 800 to get some of the features as well. Also, a possible upgrade to the DVJ lineup as well.

1000% agree with those 2 posts. Nothing more to add than that! These 2 posts should cover you thoroughly Jeremy Micheal. :)
