Re: I just got mugged at knife point

Jesus man, glad your ok. Best to ring the old bill asap imo.

I would try not to worry about the license thing. Scum like that are just opportunists. There isno reason for them to specifically target your parents house just because they have the address..

#1158830Post 6 of 68

Re: I just got mugged at knife point

yeah what andy said highly unlikely they will target your folks house.

try to sleep sean man.

Re: I just got mugged at knife point

glad you're ok dude... chances are that person was looking for loose cash and credit cards. did he just take your wallet and run?

Re: I just got mugged at knife point

Crap, that's awful. I very glad to hear you're o.k. Don't you just want to do major damage to those twats? I sure do. I would def call the police as soon as possible. Did you see their faces? Maybe there were security cameras around the area? Where do you live?

#1158855Post 11 of 68

Re: I just got mugged at knife point

sorry to hear :( I would be shaken up too, no idea how I would handle myself in that situation. Though I agree about the chances of them targeting your parents house may seem slim, I know I would feel the same way as far as worrying about that possibility. I would definitely alert the cops, let them know anything you can at all, also at least let your parents know to be on the look out, so if they see anything out of the ordinary they can alert the police before anything goes down always better to be safe than sorry

Re: I just got mugged at knife point

yeah this sucks big time, but im sure they only needed the money if they're druggies as you said. dont worry they wont go to address which is on the driver license, in fact they have already dissapeared all the evidence! so it might be good thing, when you get up, to go have a look outside near bins and that and you might find your wallet with the license and maybe with some credit and debit cards.

Re: I just got mugged at knife point

yike!

hope u are ok mate.

get in touch with the cops asap!

i doubt they will go to your folks house, but warn them just incase!

sorry to hear about your bad luck!

take care!

Re: I just got mugged at knife point

Dude that blows, what a fucking scumbag. Call the old bill, I guess they won't catch them but you never know they might get collared using a card. Screw 'em.

I wouldn't worry about your parents address, it's a seriously big step from mugging someone late at night to going round someones pad and targetting people. They KNOW you're gonna stop the cards, they ain't gonna get angry due to that. They want cash.

Good point... they won't benefit from having your license. I'd definitely head on back during the day with a buddy to see if you can find it.

Re: I just got mugged at knife point

I've never heard the term "the old bill". How did it come about?

#1158907Post 17 of 68

Re: I just got mugged at knife point

Glald you're alright mate, I know what it feels like (even got shot at). Robbers usually go for the quick fix and don't tend to take more than what they can immediately use -cash & credit cards as long as the latter will give. It might have been different if they had your parents' keys, but that isn't the case if I'm not mistaken.

Hey, and just realize: you are bound to run into some bad people in your life at some point...you just had your moment. Put it in perspective and don't be taken too heavily by it, alright? (you are allowed to get boozed up to help the process tho ;) )
I've never heard the term "the old bill". How did it come about?
Origins of the name "Old Bill"

We are often asked about the origins of "The Old Bill" or "The Bill" as slang names for the police. The simple answer is that no one really knows for sure. Over the years at least 13 different possibilities have been proposed, as follows:
[]"Old Bill" was King William IV, whose constables were an early form of police. (It is often said erroneously that he was on the throne when the police were founded. Actually he did not succeed George IV until 1830) []The play "The Custom of the Country" written by John Fletcher in 1619 has constables of the watch refer to themselves as 'us peacemakers and all our bill of authority'. []Constables of the watch were sometimes nicknamed for the bills, or billhooks they carried as weapons. []Kaiser Wilhelm I of Prussia visited England around the time in 1864 when the police uniform changed from top hat and swallowtail coat to helmet and tunic. Such 'Prussian militarism' may have led to the police being nicknamed after the first (and today less remembered) Kaiser Bill. []The 'old bill' was, in Victorian times, a bill presumed to be presented by the police for a bribe to persuade them to turn a blind eye to some nefarious activity. []New laws for the police to enforce all come from bills passed through Parliament []"Old Bill" might refer to Bill Bailey of the music hall song 'Won't You Come Home...?' used in conjunction with a pun on the Central Criminal Court at the Old Bailey. []In the 1860s there was a Sergeant Bill Smith in Limehouse. He was a popular character and people used to ask after 'Old Bill'. []Many police officers wore authoritarian-looking "Old Bill" moustaches like that adorning a famous W.W.1 cartoon character 'the wily old soldier in the trenches' by Bruce Bairnsfather. []In 1917 the government used Bairnsfather's character in posters and advertisements putting over wartime messages under the heading "Old Bill says...". For this campaign the character was dressed in a special constable's uniform. []The original vehicles used by the Flying Squad all had the registration letters BYL, so the squad became known as 'the Bill'. []The London County Council at one time registered all police, fire and ambulance vehicles with the letters BYL
According to old Etonian illegal gaming club organizer and author the late Robin Cook ('Derek Raymond'), 'old bill' is a racing term for an outsider or unknown quantity. From the point of view of the underworld, police would be outsiders
Despite all these suggestions, the earliest documented usage traced by the Metropolitan Police Historical Museum is from 1970 and 'Partridge's Dictionary of Slang'. Without giving citations the book dates "Old Bill" from the 1950s "or perhaps earlier". So the term may possibly be post W.W.2.

Re: I just got mugged at knife point

hey johns glad to hear you are A ok. I got robbed at knife point a few months back (May). Make sure you go to the police and at least make a report. I wouldn't worry to much about them showing up at your parents house. They were after money not you personally. The police won't find him and you are kind of left worrying all the time.

Too bad you didn't have a gun on you!! I bet you wish you did God knows I wish I had one when I got robbed.

I think its sometimes good that shit like that happens...just to remind us that we are alive and that there are people who are more fucked up than we are :) so cheer up

Totally agree with this man, should have done it right away really. Anyway at least your ok and all that stuff can be replaced. At the end off the day life is worth more than a bit of money and shit.

Re: I just got mugged at knife point

Fuck!! Just found this.! Hope you're feeling a bit better now. !!! Last time I had my wallet stolen, I did make a report and felt better because of it !!. Didn't get the wallet back :( I've had my wallet stolen a few times over the years, but never mugged thank goodness. !! They usually just rip out the cash and cards out and throw the rest as quickly as possible. I doubt they would even have looked at the license, so your parents should be fine.

To those asking, it's Melbourne Australia . Mugging isn't all that common here so it's even more shocking when it does happen.

Re: I just got mugged at knife point

Hi guys and gals. Thanks all for your support. I tried to sleep last nite but could not. I went to work this morning looking and feeling like shit. Told the boss what happened and he said go home. So today i am going to the cops and letting them know and also need to organize my new drivers license . I have stopped all the cards and everything and i am trying to think what else i had in it. After i organize everything i think i will go to mums house and stay there for the day. Don't want tell my mum as she would prob worry and i don't want to worry her. So what happened last nite then..

I went for my usual nite walk as i do a few hours at work and don't get home till late. Tonight though i went to the local Gas station to buy some food. I also went a little later than norm. On the way back there was this girl sanding there. i was walking on the same side of the street so i had to walk past her. They she starts chatting to me and asking how am i, what u doing etc.. I love talking so i though why not. we started chatting for a brief while. Then these 4 guys came out from a side street and said hey what are u doing talking to her .. i thought what the fuck.. i said just chatting.. they go don't talk to her and give we your wallet.. I was thrown back as i was not expecting this. i go what? They said your wallet give me it. I said i have not got it. they saw i had just bought a drink so i guess they knew i was lying. Then all 4 had knives. i though oh shit.. so yeah for $20 bucks and my cards i am not gonna get stabbed. so i handed it over. then they asked for my mobile. I said i don't have it (i did the pocket thing) .. they took the wallet and ran off. The girl was involved.

They prob do this all the time and prob watch me go in store and come out. Yes it could have turned out a lot worse but i just want the next few weeks to go by quickly so then i know they have thrown out the license .. Thanks again all. I am gonna go change the license now and cop station. Have a great day all.
