Maaaaaan am i saddened and fucked off.

My friend had a golden retriever called Bella. She was admitted to a vet clinic here in wellington for a cough.

The vet decided that she needed surgery, and it was scheduled.

The surgery was performed and when she got home, a couple days later she was vomiting and unable to eat. They also noticed that her hair was falling out on one side. They were worried and went back to the vet who dismissed it. so they went to another vet. Upon examination, she was found to have been burned from the heat pad they lay her on during the surgery. She was burned to her rib cage = the burn leaving an element shaped scab that looked like it had been done with a branding iron. They also found out that she was misdiagnosed, didnt need the surgery at all, and that the 15 medications that they had prescribed, were dangerous in combination, and can be fatal.

After trying to get her to keep food down for 2 weeks, bella was unable to drink, and heal and went from a healthy 37 or so kg - t0 under 20 - she was a golden retriever, and ended up literally looking like a greyhound.

So i decided to do a little research and found out that this vet has the nickname "Dr Death" and is reknowned for overdosing meds, doing surgery that isnt needed and using unsanitary and outdated methods and equipment.

I am now in the process of gathering cases from the nearly 40 people i have found out that have had their pets murdered by this butcher.

man, i was crying my eyes out when i saw what bella was reduced to.

Im going to get this bastards license revoked if its the last thing i do!

Re: Dr Death

Omg that is so horrible :(

Good for you though going ahead and starting a case to go after him....I wonder why none of the others did it before. He definitely needs to be stopped before any other animal has to go under his care

Re: Dr Death

I would notify the police and have them bring a case against them. In the meantime, go to his office and warn anyone you see going into his office or waiting room. Also, consider going to the local news. That usually works well here in America. They love these kind of horror stories and exposing things.

#1156131Post 14 of 49

Re: Dr Death

also print up his name and phone number and email on websites. just in case someone wants to give him a call.

Is there a local PETA / Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to animals ?

They may already have an open case you could add to?

Re: Dr Death

Run a rope from his head to his feet, and make him lie on his stomach. Pull tight on the rope so his legs bend up towards his head. Tie a portion of that rope to a shot gun trigger so that when he extends his legs, the gun goes off....Then tickle him!!!!!!

Re: Dr Death

Sorry to hear this sad news Pipey - kudos for being on the case .. If karma existed the vet would be subjected to the same pain the poor animals have suffered. Closure and financial ruin wouldn't even begin to touch the scale of pestilence that needs to come down on his ass.

BTW - Pipey ... your avatar cracks me up every time I see it :lol:

Re: Dr Death

There would be a Veterinary governing body. Go to them immediately. He has to be stopped. !!! You will need to get as many people as you can that have had problems with him . Going to the media is a great idea! More people will probably come forward if you have publicity. Prepare well. Can you get a written statement from the other vet?

Re: Dr Death

http://www.vetcouncil.org.nz/complaint.php

Complaints and Discipline

The Council has responsibility under the Veterinarians Act 2005 to receive and consider complaints against veterinarians, and to make determinations should charges of professional misconduct be laid, or in relation to other disciplinary matters.

See also:

Complaints (information for the consumer) Judicial Process Judicial Committee findings

Who can make a complaint?

Any person may make a formal written complaint to the Veterinary Council about a veterinarian. This is an important aspect of the maintenance and improvement of veterinary standards, and provision is specifically made for the process in the Veterinarians Act 2005 (Part 3, Subpart 2, s 38-46).

Who investigates the complaint?

The Complaints Assessment Committee considers all complaints, as well as referral of information from the Council, and can choose to undertake an investigation. There is no financial cost to the complainant for making a complaint. There is no provision in the process for compensatory payment to complainants. The Committee may decide not to investigate a complaint if it lies outside of its jurisdiction (e.g. solely about fees, employment) or if there are insufficient grounds to start an investigation.

What is the process of the complaint investigation?

If the Complaints Assessment Committee (CAC) decides to investigate further, it seeks a written response from the veterinarian to the complainant's letter. This response is then sent to the complainant who has the right of reply. The Committee usually assess the complaint by considering the written statements received, but will sometimes meet with the parties involved. Further information such as expert opinion may be sought if needed.

The CAC may make a recommendation to the Council without investigating, or fully investigating, a complaint or referral if the Comittee considers that the complaint or referral
[]relates to the competence of the specified person; or []relates to a medical issue; or
requires urgent action by the Council.
The CAC may also decide to attempt to settle the dispute by mediation.

At the end of the investigation the Committee considers the relevant evidence and decides whether there is any or sufficient evidence of a breach of the Veterinarians Code of Professional Conduct. All parties are informed in writing about decisions taken.

Actions the CAC can take

The Committee can take several courses of action. It may decide not to take the matter any further, it may provide advice to the veterinarian on improvements to his or her methods, service or behaviour. It may suggest a mediation process between complainant and veterinarian. It may recommend that the VCNZ requires competence or medical assessment of the veterinarian; or in serious cases of professional misconduct it may lay charges against the veterinarian which are heard and decided upon by the Judicial Committee of the Council. If the veterinarian is found guilty the Judicial Committee can impose penalties such as censure, fines, suspension, conditions of practice, audits and retraining.

What rights does the veterinarian have?

The veterinarian has the right to be treated fairly. It includes the right to know what allegations are made (and almost always by whom) and to have the opportunity to respond to allegations. It also includes the right to have legal or other support and the right to see information on which any charges are laid.

What responsibilities does the veterinarian have?

There is the responsibility under the Code of Conduct (5.10) for veterinarians to "handle any complaint laid against them in a professional and timely manner"

What criteria does the Committee use to make its decision?

The Code of Professional Conduct sets the principles of expertise, performance, behaviour, integrity and accountability expected of competent and reasonable veterinarians in New Zealand. The Committee considers whether a breach of the Code of Conduct has occurred (and if so to what degree).

Is the process confidential?

Yes, to the parties involved in the complaint and those investigating it. Council staff and representatives do not provide identifying complaint information to people not involved in the complaint investigation (although the complaint may be summarized, for example in the Newsbrief as a case study). The Council is provided with a general outline of each complaint, without identifying details. If a veterinarian is seeking registration overseas and an investigation into a complaint made against them is underway, the Registrar may advise the registration authority in that country of this fact.

How long does a complaint investigation take?

In 2005 60% of complaints were completed within three months and 89% within six months. Some complaints require more investigation than others, some investigations may be completed sooner than expected or take longer than expected.

If a complaint is laid against a veterinarian where can he or she seek advice and assistance?

New Zealand Veterinary Association: If the veterinarian is a member of the New Zealand Veterinary Association or if his or her employer has VPIS insurance help may be available in the form of personal legal or (limited) financial support.

Vets in Stress The VCNZ and NZVA jointly maintain a contract with Seed which provides the Vets in Stress programme, a 24-hour freephone access (0508 664 981) to counsellors and psychologists.

The veterinarian may seek independent legal advice.

Where can a veterinarian find out more about the complaints process?

Brochure: 'Consumer Advice', which informs the public about the complaints process is available here By contacting the Veterinary Council of New Zealand, PO Box 10-563, Wellington 6143, New Zealand, Phone

Re: Dr Death

Ummmm, im sorry to say that Bella has had to be put down sob :(

saying good bye to her, lying next to her on the ground, and kissing her sweet soft face, and smelling her smell, and hearing her breathe was one of the saddest and most beautiful things i have ever experienced. Seeing this wee thing grow from the sweet puppy to this big strong beautiful dog, and seeing her shrink to a greyhound like skeleton was so fucking unreal and tragic.

I am so glad to have known her.

She wagged her tail at my heart.

R.I.P Bella :(

Re: Dr Death

Thanks for your condolences guys. It was very hard.

I have my dog here beside me and i cant bear to bring her over to see bellas immediate family... I know that she would be sniffing around the house for bella and make her family so sad :( They gave her all of bella left over treats and things and i almost cant bear to feed them to her - but i do, cos i know how much max likes them and it would be a shame to go to waste :P (ok max, there you go - the brainwashing stare you gave me then the treat bag worked)

I have totally got the media involved - had a call from one of the producers of 60 minutes today :D

they shall pay

mwa ha ha ha
