Re: The new Beatport.
Helllll yeah!! Not that I don't like the current one... I actually think the functionality works pretty well.
After watching the new see video, it's got me kinda pumped up about it!
I actually wrote them an email a few months ago complaining about the music listener and asking if there was a way I could listen to all the tracks on the page instead of having to click on each individual one... so I'll go ahead and take credit for their first update video. ;)
Re: The new Beatport.
just wondering, have you guys got a volume control in the current beatport player? or do you turn vol up and down from the computers master volume control?
Re: The new Beatport.
i dont want to taste or smell any of the bestport top 10
YUCK!
cool redesign tho. :-p
Re: The new Beatport.
that intro video is one slick piece of marketing...
Re: The new Beatport.
^^^I was thinking the exact same thing...pretty impressive
Re: The new Beatport.
wtf?
wonder how different it really is...??
Re: The new Beatport.
They obviously didn't 'learn my every need.' There are two things that I was really hoping the next beatport would have:
Too bad I won't be seeing either of those features. At least they are making some attempt at a much needed upgrade.

Re: The new Beatport.
the full length track previews was literally the first thing i thought of when i heard they'd be upgrading the site. damn shame they didnt do it...
Re: The new Beatport.
Anyone know the track playing in the video?

Wish list feature would kick ass. I have a little notebook that I write down all of the tracks that I want but can't get at the time. It would save a lot of ink and paper, as well as being convenient as hell.

I have this problem currently too. I have to use my master volume because the beatport tracks are always louder than any mp3s im listening to and blow out my ears. glad to hear they are adding that.
2. A wish list feature, in addition to the checkout cart, that allows you to save tracks for a later purchase
This would be very nice. I just put everything I want currently into my checkout cart and have to delete stuff and re add it later, currently its at like 65$ and i dont want to spend that much money right now on tracks.
Also whoever has been doing the marketing / site design for these guys needs a raise. great look and very slick and usable stuff. good work!
Re: The new Beatport.
all the DJs shop at the same store?
how very underground
Re: The new Beatport.
Yes, half the world shops here, but not everyone buys good shit! lol Anyway, just ckecking it.. I hope they have a filter search by YEAR!!! Always wanted that!
You can sort by genre, artist label, but not by year?? come on!!

I go there because it's easy. I don't always buy from there. If you dig around, you can find some good stuff....Stay the hell away from the top lists and the most popular lists...Sometimes, the dj charts have some gems. New releases on Tuesdays can sometimes be nice, too.

this is why i dont goto mcdonalds anymore. too commercial.
Re: The new Beatport.
I have an emusic account, so I go to beatport for better track samples
other than having to sift through a shite load of bad music, its really not a bad site
Re: The new Beatport.
does anyone use dancerecords? i used to buy quite a good bit from them.

For the fucking win.
Re: The new Beatport.
the reason i may use beatport more than other sites is b/c some of my fav. artist have beatport only exclusive releases.
Re: The new Beatport.
I just want them to roll the damn thing out and to stop with the 2 minute track demos. I want more. I want Needledrop from DJ Download. That thing is awesome.
Re: The new Beatport.
Oh and just visiting there and listening to the New Sasha release. I saw they had it under Techno when it's really prog house. Those people need to learn how to decipher music.

i used to buy most of my vinyl from dancerecords and groovetech.. havent used it in ages

Same here, I used to buy the majority of my stuff from dancerecords. They are based about 25 miles from my house, so if I would order before noon, my vinyl would be on my porch the next day!!

As for the wishlist feature on beatport, they do kinda have this... just add all the tracks you want to your cart or that you wish to have. Once they're in there, change your delivery preferences to instant download.
When you do this, you can buy individual tracks in your cart, and keep the others in there for later!! :D

Marketing.
A lot of the "labeling" that Beatport does is not really done for musical reasons.

What is Stompy? An online rec shop? I googled it with no luck.

Paolo Mojo & Jim Rivers - Ron Hardy Said (Eric Prydz Remix)

yeah, www.stompy.com
i just googled it and its the first result, lol
Re: The new Beatport.
stompy's all house music.
They just did their redesign and now have the playlist option. Which I've been waiting for a long time, as well as the buy/hold tracks in your crate now.
I guess no other site has a need to go with needledrop like djdownload does.
Re: The new Beatport.
Beatport and Stompy are pretty much the only place aside from actual vinyl shops I purchase my tracks at.
Stompy sometimes carry stuff the Beatport doesn't.. which is pretty cool.

ah, don't care. their last remix competition sucked. some plain o flat non feeling remix won. gtfoh

That's where I go. I cycle through a lot of the dj lists.
What they should do to maximize the benefits is to allow us to create user profiles so that I can filter shit.
By this I mean that I should be able to log in and filter out which genres I don't want. This way I don't have to wade through the excess crap. I can turn on the filter and keep house, tech-house, etc...
With that, they should devise a way to be able to filter the charts in a similar fashion by using percentages of tracks in the chart that go to a certain genre. For instance, if a chart from a dj has 25% of the tracks listed under house and 75% as drum n bass, it will filter the chart because it's mostly dnb. The system would set up gradients so that when you log in, the charts are sitting there ready for you to look at and listen to. I know that you can add your favorite charts/labels/artists, but it'd be cool if it did automatic filters for you.
Also, instead of clicking on an album which takes you to another page, the album should automatically have a drop down menu where you can select the track you want to listen to. This way you don't have to go back and forth, and anyway who frequents charts I'm sure has had problems with beatport taking you back to the very first page after you come out of an album.
I like the wish list idea. Gotta wonder why these peeps didn't add it in the first place...and even the volume control. what kind of fucking site doesn't add volume control.
Maybe better colors. This green/blue crap makes me go crazy; reminds me of the awful colors tdameritrade uses.

Which one are you talking about. The one with that rock band for remixing? That sucked from the beginning. The Danny Tenaglia one was awesome. I'm just glad to finally have the acapella for it. Eventually you'll hear a remix from myself of that track.

your saying the one Danny Tenaglia remix that won was good? sucked! Mekanimal remix was good and should of won.
Re: The new Beatport.
Oh come on bro. Let's not get into what is better. Music is music and some of it is not to our specific tastes, but someone somewhere is going to love that piece of music that you can't stand.
