xone 92 as a midi controller?

I was wondering if anyone who owns or has used xone 92 can tell me what its like as a midi controller? I am kind of split now between djm 800 and xone 92. . .not sure what to get next. I can get xone 92 cheaper than the djm 800 and I don't care so much for all the harmonic mixing of the djm 800 but I do know it performs very well as a midi controller. . .to be honest I have never used Allen & Heath although I have heard only positive things about it. I would be using it with tractor rather than ableton so if anyone has tried this setup or can shed some light on the performance of xone 92 as a midi controller I would be very grateful. Thanks

I can find xone 92 for about 700£ while the djm 800 will run at about 900£

Re: xone 92 as a midi controller?

its not a fully functioning one, from what i read. i have one myself, but dont use it as such. the 3D is the one you want, but it costs a pretty penny.

Re: xone 92 as a midi controller?

it's really not designed to be a midi controller. if you're going to use traktor exclusively, why don't you just invest in a nice midi controller, rather than a mixer trying to be one?

i thought you had traktor scratch tho?

Re: xone 92 as a midi controller?

Midi control on the 92 is totally useless. Only 6 of the Xone 92's controls can output midi data: 2 buttons, the crossfader, and 3 rotary knobs (2 of which are the VCF knobs, so using them would interfere with the filters)

If you go with the 92 and you're not using time-code control in Traktor Pro you're still going to need some sort of midi controller to take care of tasks like launching tracks and using FX. I'd recommend looking at the Xone 1D or one of the faderfox controllers.

Also, here's a link for a new xone 92 for $1,295 http://store.yahoo.com/djmazter/frupsgrshalh.html ..that has to be the lowest price I have ever seen

Also, in respect to the djm 800. I have not used this before, but from the looks of it I don't think it would be much better of a midi solution for Traktor Pro than the 92 would. There aren't a lot of extra knobs and buttons on the mixer and it looks like you'd have to negate any analogue control that a knob or button has if you want it to control midi (i.e. you may have to give up your 'cue' button to control a software button). So really with either mixer you're probably going to want an additional unit strictly to control midi.

Re: xone 92 as a midi controller?

I thought as much I was just checking ...as for the price of xone 92 I found it for 1,078 $ (in UK though) but thanks for trying to help. . .

The DJM 800 has over 30 assignable controls for midi so I assume that it might be better...but you have a good point by sating that I should probably just get 2x 1d and get it over and done with...hmmm I think xone 92 is my next stop anyways...all I need to do is wait a bit longer till some more "dj's" start selling their equipment from the credit crunch and I'll be on my way. . .

Thanks to all for helping

Re: xone 92 as a midi controller?

^ I would recommend the 1Ds for the most part. They've got all kinds of controls (buttons, knobs, endless rotary knobs, a jog wheel, etc.) and is extremely versatile. Just make sure you get one that was made after January 08, any 1Ds produced before that have a nasty & non-correctable latency problem.

I actually just sold my 1D on e-bay last week b/c I was planning on switching it up and trying out a couple fader foxes for a change.

...however, after seeing a video of Zabiela using the korg nano midi controllers with Traktor Pro a few days ago I have decided to give them a shot. They are only $60 USD a piece and I'm pretty sure that two of them would be enough for all of the parameters I need to control in Traktor Scratch Pro.

The top two would be great for Traktor but the nano keyboard looks pretty sweet, it even has velocity sensitive keys!

Re: xone 92 as a midi controller?

I got the nano pad...it came today. Its pretty simple to use and it works like it says on the manual so I am pretty satisfied overall. It solves all my problems really for just 40£ so thanks again :)

Re: xone 92 as a midi controller?

Got my nano devices the other day as well!

Really digging them so far. Solid little kits!

I've been playing around with them in Traktor Pro a bit and must say that I've been having a lot of fun.

XY pad is also working out real nice now that I've figured out how to map it!

Re: xone 92 as a midi controller?

Hopefully my Nano Pad should be here today...2:20 AM. As I got an email from Musicians Friend on Sat telling me to click on this when I have received the item. Looking forward to it.

Re: xone 92 as a midi controller?

Dont spend too much on mixer that you are only going to use as a MIDI controller... I would go with a UC33 & Trigger Finger, both work just fine and cheap as well! Considering all you can do with them!!

My two cents.

CHEERS!!

Re: xone 92 as a midi controller?

I'm truly pissed at Korg and more importantly Musicians Friend. I ordered the damn thing on the 3rd of December and it's still not here yet. I'm heading to GC tomorrow to see if they have them to buy one and then cancel my order with MF.
