I know most of on here have tons of music but when is enough, enough? I have more than I'll ever need or listen to but I can't bring myself to delete or stop downloading new sets. Fabric called it OSD (Obsessive Set Disorder). I downloaded like 12 Holosound sets the other day. Alex would be happy but how am I gonna listen to all that? There's some stuff like sasha, lawler, digweed, luke fair, and most of the pre 2005 stuff that I treasure I won't let go. How have others here dealt with this? I find myself about to delete stuff and find it very difficult. Some feedback serious or otherwise would be appreciated. Thanks Jeff :)

Music Addiction
Re: Music Addiction
I would be very interesting to get some answers! coz i am totally hocked up with no signs of slowing down
Re: Music Addiction
"hi my name is matt and i'm a terminal music addict." -- "hi matt."
what i try to do is lessen my music intake with calm, thought out moderation, organization and themed genre days for listening. never take for granted a single good set, rhythm or a melody.
you can always play the music in your head too -- when going cold turkey. i just tell myself to cherish each moment of the sound, as well as workin at maintaining a sound determination, coupled with a sincere effort, to not abuse my hearing! always listening though, even in the silence of that soundless sound from day to day.
try to avoid developing tinnitus too. ;)

Jeff, you are not alone. It's ok. I too suffer from OSD. Downloading set after set with no hope of listening to everything that makes it to my hard drive...man I hear ya. I just wish I could bring myself to delete all the old stuff I will never listen to again....:(
Re: Music Addiction
like mr woE said. Limit yourself to what you download. pick and choose. Sometimes after downloading sets that don't really move me I delete them and have no problem with that.
but if you just can't remove permanently then start storing them on dvd cd's. Organize artists or genres and back them up on dvd's. Sounds like a bitch, but trust me; once its done you can free up your drive and it will all seem much more better, cleaner... vacant.
then you can just refer back to the discs...

I'm with you too.I just recently went through and sorted out all my cds.put them in cd cases.turns out I have about 1280 cds of burnt music. Ended up getting rid of 1,000 cds of music i dont listen to anymore. Not to mention the 640 files of music that I have on my hard drive.I just dont know when to stop.I tend to download sets from the go to guys ie sasha digweed zabiela hawtin lawler burridge and the likes.or i'll download sets from djs ive never heard before. At some point theres got to be an end.where that point is who knows
Re: Music Addiction
well guys, I've had Advanced OSD for the past 9 or 10 years, I've been doing this since back in the Kazaa, WinMx days until now, I have over 2.8 TB of music (EDM, Jazz, Rock, etc).
** My advice is allocate an hour or so a day to catch up on the tunage, in passing I'll jump onto ms or other sites I frequent, then onto the days biz at hand, work, surfing, etc., just don't let the OSD keep you from day to day life, especially if you're married, just remember its a hobby

Re: Music Addiction
I used to be one of the biggest set whores on the planet.
i pretty much stopped downloading sets a year or so ago, and i enjoy club music so much more when i play or go out these days. if one comes around that's highly recommended, that gets a lot of buzz, i'll grab it, but im just not that interested in listening to club music outside of the club.
downtempo, hip hop, bands, elecro (the real stuff), indie, etc, i'm all over, but listening to dj so and so live from this or that- not that interested, especially when said dj puts out a new set every fking week. djs put out WAY too much music these days because it's easy to do so. it takes away from it all imo, devalues the party- stop.

I was buying all of my music from the stores back then, used to spend a lot of time at Grooveman Records
Re: Music Addiction
I just have Download Disorder in general. I like downloading stuff be it movies, music, porn, tv, apps, games. If my internet connection is idling, I feel like I'm not getting the most out of it.

Re: Music Addiction
I'm enjoying replaying the older stuff but putting it on my i-pod and blasting it at home - now I've got 4 x hours of JD from Club Yellow 2001 to work through again ... loved it at the time.

Re: Music Addiction
one of these days i will decide to stop downloading and archiving....
Re: Music Addiction
Yeah i certainly am a music addict. I archive everything meticulously on an external hard drive and have cd back ups of every set i really enjoy. I cant get enough of the dj/producers i enjoy. I also dont plan to stop buying albums and downloading set ever. I dumped my last girlfriend because she insulted(long story) and took a negative view of my love of electronic music. BTW [ms] is like a big music drug store..... where everything is free......THANK YOU [ms] FOR FEEDING THE ADDICTION!!!!!!
Re: Music Addiction
Well my addiction is still going. Ran out of hard drive space and started burning dvds to clear some room. I've slowed down a bit recently cause I know I'll never really get to listen to all of it. But I can't go a day it seems without downloading a few sets.
currently my sickness involves 52 filed mp3 dvds, 750 filed mp3 cds, and about 289gb worth of hard drive space combined for an estimated 1.175 terabytes...
and about 350 purchased cds, but most of those have been ripped and filed in the above
I'm also addicted to beer, twizerd, and reefer.

It's the tagging and album art that's a bitch. :what
Re: Music Addiction
It's good to know i am not alone
Re: Music Addiction
i have to force myself to delete stuff.
i still cant manage it though!
if i donwnload and it doesnt get listened to.
it get deleted!!
well almost!
Re: Music Addiction
Thanks for sharing everyone.. I used to be terrible when I was at Uni. Would have like 10 sets dling at once, flick through them and of they didnt sound like they were at least an 8/10 then I would never even go back to them (but still not delete them). Time restictions have sorted that out alot these days, but me and Themightygreg were saying just the other day that there is so much good music at the moment it is almost worrying/stressful knowing how much you will miss out on.

Funnily enough im the opposite. Im getting slightly burned out by clubbing. Its has to be a pretty special night these days for me to make the effort but I still relentlessly listen to sets from the comfort of my own home.. lol

i'm the same!
gotta be something special for me to make the effort to put up with the kiddies in the clubs!
Re: Music Addiction
Yeah the tagging part is the worst, ugh...
I never save any sets though, just have a listen and move on to the next.

Very stressful. The feeling you get when you discover a new tune/set for the first time that makes you shiver with pleasure is what I spent a lot of my spare time waiting for, so to think I'm basically missing out on moments like that all the time... :what
