been a bit down recently.

long story that i'm not going to bore u with. put it this way redundancies not a nice to face. puts up far too many questions without answers.

i've become a bit of a recluse. which is odd for me, as i'm normally outgoing and the life of the party. even losing my faith in the way (edm) not good.:what:what:what

only good thing is my misses who is great. but she is being tested, as i'm not the best person to be around. she's special. very supportive.:p

dont know why i'm writing this. dont want sympathy. i guess any advice to help me out, other than "pull yourself together" and "it will get better" would be appreciated.

Re: I'm depressed

Dhar, I too have been a recluse for the last 7 months, the best advice my counselor gave me is to get out and do something. Anything to get yourself out of the house. It does work. Hope it helps and things will get better.

Re: I'm depressed

Set a goal for yourself. Focus on it. Go get it.

That´s how I work.

Yeah, kind of abstract I know, but I´ve come to realise that many people feel depressed because they don´t really "see the point".

The days when I wake up and I have nothing special to do are the worse. so I always try to set a goal for something to do that day, even if it´s just a fuckin´ drive down to the beach or whatever. Having gotten back to mixing also helps A LOT.

Re: I'm depressed

Hang in there mate ... things always turn out in the end - this global recession is effecting everyone.

Doing things doesn't always have to cost big bucks - you're in Italy - there must be plenty of things to do !

Re: I'm depressed

^ unfortunately my already minimal wage (in global terms) isnt making ends meet!

it will all come good or bad then good! just wish i could shake the cloud, its dragging the most important person in my world down and its not fair on her!

Re: I'm depressed

i find when things are going good, it's because everything's on a roll: music, writing, fitness, women...

but when the wheels come off, they all come off. to get going again i start with one thing, generally exercise, and if i make a commitment to it the others start rolling again too.

Re: I'm depressed

Think of the one thing that's holding you back, and get rid of it...Keep getting rid of these things until there's nothing left to keep you down..These things might be material, and/or they might be mental. Whatever they may be, recognize them, and eliminate them.

Re: I'm depressed

Just a couple things that might make you feel a little better is exercise and meditation, they have helped me in this moments, even just a little walk or a few moments clearing your mind and focusing on breathing seem to work very well...

Re: I'm depressed

The worst think about worrying about money is that it is really hard to get the most out of the good things in your life. So some of the advice here on eliminating is really good. It's amazing how much you can get rid of and actually improve your life while getting rid of some of the pressure. It's also important to allow yourself time to grieve.

Can you get freelance work?? New career options perhaps.??

.

Re: I'm depressed

Sorry to hear that man. Guess you wished you'd gone to HK now eh? ;):what

It gets depressing spending too much time at home, so I'd find free/cheap alternatives / things to do and go out. Try to think of it as a break; maybe set aside some time everyday to check the job market, make calls, emails, do whatever you need to land the next job; and the rest of the time, don't think about it since there's nothing else you can do anyway!

When I last got retrenched, I took my savings and went to Australia for a long break, returned home and got a job in a month. :lol:8)

This time in Australia, it's taken me 4 months getting work, and that 4 months has been pretty fucked up. It really sucks when all you do is stay home, look for work, and think about everything, it really does your head in. Especially when nothing you do seems to make a discernible impact on the situation. Definitely need to step out and get some fresh air, walk around, maybe read a book somewhere, otherwise the cabin fever will get to you.

Re: I'm depressed

Work and money bring massive, un-natural stresses that seem difficult to escape from as i know as well as anyone. I'm sorry to hear you're feeling like this mate and we're all gonna tell you things'll get better in time but that doesn't help now eh? Sometimes change can heal too and getting into a different job or moving house can have a major impact on your outlook - even if the interim is pretty daunting. 3 years ago me and my ex split after 8 years together which was bad enough but it meant our little girl Amy moved out too which broke me. She was 5 at the time and just about to start school. I kept on going to work and trying to carry on and managed it for about a year before i cracked... i then spent 6 months at home wondering what the fuck was going on and how i was ever gonna get back on my feet when i couldn't even leave the house or talk to anyone .......... but eventually i did somehow and dragged myself back to work - all i can say is that time was the healer.. as it always is.. there are times now when i feel like giving up again as i can think of more things to be negative about than positive (which is the essence of depression) but we'll get through Amy comes to stay every other weekend and is as happy as any 7 year old you'll find - i've gone from feeling like i ruined her life to being the proudest dad in the world again - for the last 2 yr i've been with my current girlfriend who is an amazing woman ... but it's not so long ago i saw no future for me at all.. the human spirit is an amazing thing - hang in there dhar and we'll all hang in there with you.. peace

That's good advice. You need to find the source of your problem and get rid of it....ultimately only you can make the necessary changes in your life to better yourself

Hang in there and keep your chin up!

Re: I'm depressed

Re: I'm depressed

^^^ No, No, No, . Firstly it sounds as though he has a good reason to be depressed so it's a better idea to work on the problems than to start using antidepressants, there is no such thing as a mild one!! I spent the worst six months of my life on antideressants, and they have horrible side effects!! Loss of libido being one, which I'm pretty sure won't make either him or his partner any happier!

Re: I'm depressed

I work in the area of mental health, so here's my 2 cents. Anti-Ds can be useful for many people in that they may alleviate some of the physical symptoms of depression such as fatigue. However, they do not, nor can they get to the bottom of what may be throwing someone into depression in the first place. Anti-Ds generally are meant as a short-term intervention (in the case of mild depression anyway and often enough in clinical depression). There is much to be said for unearthing why a person is suffering from this horrible affliction and I know of no better way, than talking to a sensitive and caring therapist. Through gaining insight/awareness into why a person is depressed affords a new perspective and a chance to come to terms with what can be truly, and often despairing.

An excellent book that might help is called

Depression - the common sense approach by Tony Bates

it is an excellent self-help book, which I recommend regularly

Best of luck

I thought you said you wanted to be happy...? Think about it

+1 Even if its as trivial as eating breakfast, and washing the car. Set some attainable goals and take it day by day.

Re: I'm depressed

ok. facts/goals

the unconfirmed work or not pisses me off with the house implications - action: look for other work in the men time, and see what pans out. one of them is bound to pan out.

i'm finding my friends annoying and moany.- action: avoid them till it passes and only hang out with the people who arent getting on my tits.

becoming a recluse - action: break from the routine do stuff i dont normally do.

portfolio - action - ballache. need to start working on it again. it never stops, why can the fucking thing always be in date!!! stupid trends and stuff!!!

house - action: see what happens with one, start looking anyway.

girlfriend - action: none needed, shes great!!!

sums it up. lets see how it goes!!

thanks for all your help!!!
