Just got some new headphones

OMG, gentleman and ladies. I just paid 99$ for a pair of HFI-450 Ultrasones, and have not heard better sound from headphones in not many others. I went to GC today looking for some headphones after being told that SA does not carry many different types of headphones and I couldn't use my own music for the checking of them. So, went to GC. The salesman Chris went and grabbed the Sennheiser HD220's which my friend has and I listened to them last night and was very impressed by their sound. Well he also pulled down a set of $200 Beyerdynamic DT 770 which he thought and said were some of the best headphones around. Well I wanted to try some Ultrasones and hear what all the fuss was about. The HFI-450's were all they had.

So I went and plugged the Ultrasones into my ipod and put on Guy J's new album. Listening to it really brought out the low end of the sound WAY better than my Sony V-700's EVER did. And the highs were crisp and clean, and these cans are very comfortable with the earpieces easily moveable around your head to be able to work with all kinds of different head types.

So I changed to the 770's and immediately had to turn up the ipod as the sound wasn't as loud. Well the bass was very nice but it was missing in the mid and high range. Not as crisp and clean as the 450's. Well after a few minutes of switching back and forth with the 770's and the 450's, I finally decided that the sound was fuller and more defined in the 450's, so I bought them, and being $100 cheaper...you really do get more for your money. Very Highly reccommended. You don't need $200-300 headphones to get really REALLY good sound in a headphone.

Re: Just got some new headphones

These should cover your entire ear too. My v-700's never covered my entire ear for sound, but these do and i'm still getting used to the amount of sound they block out.

Yeah the main feature im looking for is comfort. Im sick of the sony's crushing my ear. Gets really painful after playing for several hours...

Re: Just got some new headphones

I'm going to use them primarily for production, but i'll also use them if a gig comes up as they block out extra noise a lot easier than those sony's did.

You've got to be kidding right? HD-25's > Daylight > any other headphone. For djing that is.

Re: Just got some new headphones

Hey, feel how you want. I don't use those headphones and never have. I like these, and that's what I dig.

Re: Just got some new headphones

i will have to say, i am a BIG ultrasone fan.

the 450s are great for the price. their higher end headphones though, omg they are beautiful. some even come with hard carrying cases!

i have the DJ1 PROs and they are amazing. i use them for production, tracking, mixing, mastering... i find them to be much better than the 450s in both clarity and bass definition. they are so fat like the 450s are but much flatter response with a bit of a bump in the super low end.

i honestly don't recommend any other headphone brand.

Re: Just got some new headphones

Yeah I think I am officially a convert to their company. Great quality...it took me about a week to really get used to the earpiece being all around my ears and the closed back design, I was used to my Sony's which never really covered my ears fully.

Re: Just got some new headphones

I just picked up a pair of these yesterday. I recently moved and couldn't find my old Sonys anywhere, figured they must have somehow made their way to the trash pile during the move. Anyway, they had been broken for a year or so (the usual thin plastic part at the swivel that always breaks) but still kinda useable.

I originally was going to buy the Senn hd280, but was really surprised at the lack of bass response. They sounded great and clear and balanced, perfect for production or general listening, but for djing I need something more bass heavy (dj headphones and listening headphones require totally different criteria as far as I'm concerned). So the sales guy recommended the Ultrasones as a good budget option, same price range as the Senns. I'll have to say, they sound much better than the Sonys. Much more clear, but still with enough bass.

But I ended up finding my Sonys today and they're still useable with a little attention from Dr. Duct Tape, so the Ultrasones are going back. My only complaint with them was how easy they were to overload. Maybe they would loosen up after breaking in, don't really know. For home use they're great, but in a loud club with bad moniters when you have to crank the phones, they might get a little distorted.

Wow, that was my 10th post in four years. I think maybe I should slow down and rest a minute. My hands are a little cramped.
