Morning all

Just got back from Ibiza last night. Went to see Hernan on Sunday at Space. It was my first time at Space so thought I'd write a review.

We were staying about 5 mins walk from the club so got there as it was filling up. Dunno who the warm up man was but he was really good, got a great groove going. Then Joris Voorn came on and played for 1 hour, I think it might have been a set of his own productions because I heard a couple of his tracks in there.

Hernan came on after that for 2 hours and was really good.Because of the demise of Metrodance I hadnt heard anything from him in months. I didnt recognise a single track but they were really driving, almost bordering on techno. I really enjoyed it.

Amazingly he wasnt the headline act - DJ Pierre was and he played for 3 hours. I had never heard of him but he played a good set, and my mates really enjoyed him. He kept doing this trick where on a breakdown he would kind of filter the breakdown until it sounded like a jet plane in your ears - my ear actually popped after an hour of it. He ended with Nightcrawlers-Push The Feeling On, a personal classic for me.

I danced for almost 7 hours straight and enjoyed every minute!

So now I'm depressed as hell because it's over for another year, back to work on Monday, credit crunch blah blah blah. But the tunes were as good as ever!

Nice one Greg. I'm seeing Cattaneo tomorrow night at Shindig, Newcastle, also for 2 hours; glad to hear he's on fine form!

Re: Hernan Cattaneo - Space,Ibiza 21st Sep 2008

berps did you go to Pacha on Tuesday for the Defected closing party?

I did, and I felt a little short changed. The music for the first 3 hours was pretty wishy-washy and never really got going. They did play some tougher tracks toward the end but it wasn't my best Pacha experience. It was Kid Creme and Junior Jack dj'ing by the way.

As usual the prices were nothing short of embarrassing. 20 euros for 2 bottles of beer. Even Bora Bora are cashing in now - two years ago it was 7 euros for a lounger and now its 12. And when the music volume gets turned up (about 4pm) they whack the prices up too! Bought two drinks for 8 euros about 3pm, and later on I paid 8 euros each for the same drink! The bar staff/sun lounger staff are a moody lot too - good job the music was brilliant.

Re: Hernan Cattaneo - Space,Ibiza 21st Sep 2008

Glad you had a decent time Greg ... Sundays at Space have a funny running order because it's practically an all dayer - so headliners come on early as (from my hazy memory) peak-time is probably 7.00 p.m. til 4.00 p.m.

Drink prices are a nightmare, worsened by weak sterling.

Pacha has gone downhill musically - now seems more of a "lifestyle" club with the crowd Guetta attracts (posers that aren't serious about EDM).

The end of Renaissance Thursdays was a big loss - even though they tagged onto Fridays for the odd night they didn't have the awesome bills that Marcus James previously organised with the likes of Hernan as resident, and Sasha, Digweed,Van M, Sander, Lawler, Howells and JZ - with the very under-rated Marcus opening up.

flasks are the way to go in clubs like that. Good to hear Hernan's still bringing it. But DJ Pierre? gonna have to check out some sets of his after that review

Re: Hernan Cattaneo - Space,Ibiza 21st Sep 2008

^ I think I enjoyed DJ Pierre's set because it was Space, I was drunk, it was Ibiza. Don't get me wrong the tunes were decent, but not the type of stuff I normally listen to

And what is this about a flask? You talking about smuggling a flask into a club?

yeah. hell, even mini-bottles. i know why alcohol costs so much: because people are willing to shell out for it. i don't think it's right to charge so much to effect such little drunkeness. i'm not talking big flasks either.

Re: Hernan Cattaneo - Space,Ibiza 21st Sep 2008

The best way of smuggling is to use the lucozade sport foil packs with screwcaps - drink the lucozade, fill with booze, smuggle, drink and dispose of the empty drink pack responsibly (or better, save the planet and re-use).
