Re: startingup with Ableton

you probably don't need any more suggestions so late after your post, but I can't heartily suggest a couple of things...

M-Audio's AXIOM 61 keyboard -- 61 keys (which was a lifesaver after using a 25 key unit for a while). The Axiom has semi-weighted keys which makes a big difference too.

Also, MOTU's Ultra-Lite. I use it a lot for running my monitors, recording vocals and it can also be used in conjunction with a regular DJ mixer as its got 4 stereo outs in the back. Plenty to feed your ableton tracks to a club mixer. Really stable too!

Don't know what mac version you've got, but you may find that you need a little app called "CoolBook" to solve some problems inherent in producing audio with some mac laptops. If you've getting any strange glitches, thats the solution.

peace...

Re: startingup with Ableton

Yo Digger, hey bro the best advice i can give you is to check out youtube and all the ableton videos on there. as they can teach you far more than just reading about it.

As for hardware, if you are using a mac, you shouldn't need a soundcard interface for a while, as they are already quite good. But in the future when you wanna do vocals and things of that sort, you'll wanna get you a nice firewire interface. I personally use the Presonus Firepod which is amazing. Even has class A preamps for each of the mic inputs.

Re: startingup with Ableton

Does anyone use the built in card for djing out with?

Re: startingup with Ableton

I wouldn't even know if you could do that. as you need something to cue with.

Re: startingup with Ableton

Yep a external sound card with a min of 2 stereo outputs is needed to dj. 1 output as the Master and 1 is for the cue...

As for control surface i'm buying this in the next few weeks..
