Re: This weekend: "Info workshop day"
^^^^ there in lies another problem, i start organising and coming across old or new stuff i havent heard in a while or ever before and start compiling tracks for a new mix or my next gig.. ADD anyone? lol
Yes, I am going through lots of interesting tracks from others genres, I could easily make few sets or even play an entire gig out of these tracks. But what would be the price to pay for that, being known as a dark proggy dj? How would that be perceived by the listeners or by the label (sudam)? It is very tempting...but..there is a but in here, and a big one. lol

Re: This weekend: "Info workshop day"

one-time only offer :p

Hey I got a d'n'b friend who now spins some house and a house/techno DJ who tries his hand at d'n'b a bit...;)

It's a new and interesting challenge...

I agree, would make more challenging and even be more interesting maybe to explore other genres. I would add that it would be even easier for me to do that since quality dark proggy is much harder to find than the techno or other genres as we all know proggy has almost died (almost ;)).

The thing is that it was pretty hard for me to stick to proggy only and build this image of "dark proggy queen", or "mistress of darkness" and stuff like that. Frankly I like it a lot and it has somehow become my public musical (or dj/prod) identity.

lol, that reminds me, once I was sitting with Kintar and we preparing our back2back set and I chose few tracks to play with his selection. There was like a track or two I selected that were a tiny bit minimalistic. And Kintar freaked out and posted on his msn: "The queen has gone minimalistic" :D And suddenly like 5 or 6 windows pop up on his msn (djs/producers) and were like "woot??!! What happened to the queen??!!! Are you serious?". I think that the same reaction would happen with most of my fan-base: Being different has its magic, and i definetly dont want to loose that.

But more importantly, my musical experience is too much based on "real" music with FEELINGS: The piano experience, playing classical music like Bach or Beethoven etc, or the singing experience singing jazz or soul, made me too picky on generally being involved with music with "feelings". Then with years and evolution of music, my ears turned towards "electronic" music with groups like Depeche Mode (the early), then with rock with groups like Kiss, then Nirvana, Metallica, U2 and mostly PINK FLOYD... Then with the development of EDM came the early trance, at the period where they were quality "trance with feelings", then with the progressive-house. Since then I didnt manage to shift to other genres as electronic music is becoming more computerized and less sentimental: I simply can't play it if I don't feel it. What might make my sets different than many artists is that I try to transmit feelings to the listeners, the same feelings I get from the tracks I select for the "stories" of my sets. Techno, minimals and other genres simply don't talk to me...:D

This is also the way we see things at Sudam, thats why I am so happy to be part of Sudam as our musical taste and views match to perfection.
