Re: anthony pappa @ destiny orlando REVIEW

pappa is the man. they guy has got to be one of the top djs as far as technical ability and mixing is concerned. Not to many in his league.

for some odd reason it seems he never gets the credit he deserves. has always flown under the radar

thanks for the videos!!

Re: anthony pappa @ destiny orlando REVIEW

Agree on the technical thing - I think he's the best in the world at mixing.

However, I have found him so hit and miss over the past few years. I purchased a copy of Moments and I was pretty underwhelmed by it to be honest. Maybe it sounds good on a system, but I just couldn't get into half of it.

I agree with you on Moments, rather uneventful for me, live he's a completely different Dj, his older releases were all solid, some of his recent tech-house sets from his Moments Show on Proton Radio I like.

1st time I heard him was back in 1997 when he was guest on Triple J Mixup, that old Platipus sound was awesome back in the day.

I have a theory that different Djs have a certain length of set that really suits them. With Pappa I think it's a 2-3 hour set . He's absolutely amazing in that time frame, but if he is doing longer sets he throws in stuff that just doesn't flow. His Darkbeat mix here is incredible but the best is definitely the first three hours:D I have seen him about six times [ I'm losing track!] and the best sets were the shorter ones.

The only cd I have is nubreed which I love:D

Re: anthony pappa @ destiny orlando REVIEW

we got there at 12ish and hardly anyone was there.....the opening dj was playing really hard, we were like wtf. but once 1am came around more people showed up and pappa came on.

so i guess he didn't want to play in an empty club.

Re: anthony pappa @ destiny orlando REVIEW

DIDI - no, I was referring to his Moments radio show when I talked about hits and misses.

I have probably downloaded 10-12 Moments shows, and out of them 3 are brilliant, the others have been pretty forgetful.

When he's on, he is ON though!

Re: anthony pappa @ destiny orlando REVIEW

^^^ He sure is!!

Just as a point of interest this is what one of the darkbeat guys wrote in a local forum. Referring to this track,

Paco Osuna - Transheet - Plus 8 Records

To get all geeky on ya - the vocal actually has a time stretched ping pong echo , but when pappa had the start of it on a hot cue , he had the ability to bring the section back when ever and how ever he pleases. To have everything at 12 oclock your timing to hot cue a vocal that has no kick drum or percussion and intuitivley automatically correct it before a mistake is made is totally unbelievable to execute it every. single. time he does it. He played 5 1/2 hours all seamless, some mixes weaving in and out over 20 + minute periods.

When we had to physically lift the CDJ up off the stand in the air so he could hit the cues like a drum machine will be something that will go down in Darkbeat history .

It was really nice to be there~! :D
