If you could bring a dead rock star back to life for one gig, who would it be?

John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis, Kurt Cobain, Buddy Holly, Freddie Mercury? Or someone else?

This Day in Music are carrying out a world-wide survey to see which dead rock stars people would want to see again - for one night only!

Who would you pick? You can see a full list and vote on Stairway To Heaven, Dead Rock Stars, Dead Pop Stars, 27 Club,

Re: If you could bring a dead rock star back to life

I would go back even farther than rock, bring back Robert Johnson or Beethoven as for rock bring back Frank Zappa.

Re: If you could bring a dead rock star back to life

Ooh very tough.

If the person we brought back would be their original age when/or before they died. otherwise, in their "prime" I would bring back. Hendrix (only in his 20's) or Lennon (give peace a chance) we need it in the world today.

Why I wouldnt bring back Cobain, because the guy prob would have killed himself again, he was so miserable. Even if courney had him offed. The guy was influential, (yea) but he didnt bring much else

edit: Beethoven ftw! For sure.

Re: If you could bring a dead rock star back to life

Did you get this thread idea from that pop charts birthday site? They had a poll for this on the rgith hand side.

Mine is none of the above- Layne Staley

Bradley is a good one though.

Re: If you could bring a dead rock star back to life

Tough choices imo..

Between Hendrix, Nowell, Marley, Cobain, Morrison and Cash, i'd have to go with Cobain..

For the sole reason of the possibly imminent things he could(if he wasn't so domed all the time) have done with prog and breaks. This statement i make, is with regards to that one video of him talking about growing up on new wave, and popularizing grunge, and then he goes on thinking about making progress into something else? He also hinted at bringing back breakdancing.. so idunno, a rather intriguing thought. the video is not available on youtube anymore though..:what

oh and Starkid, he was a rocker in his own rite ;)

cobain and shoot him right away for being annoying.

john lennon and shoot him for creating annoying pop music before they got to be immortal

but seriously....... the world cuold use freddy mercury back. i think he would be more importnat on social issues than bob geldof ever imagined.

Re: If you could bring a dead rock star back to life

cobain without a doubt. listen to the last song he ever wrote (do-re-mi) to get an idea of where he was heading...amazing stuff. would love to hear the music he'd be making now, a bit mellowed with age.

Re: If you could bring a dead rock star back to life

Freddy Mercury - Just watch his 'under pressure' live or one of his live versions of 'somebody to love'. The energy that he can inject into the audience is amazing.

Re: If you could bring a dead rock star back to life

As much as I'd love to hear some more hendrix i think one of the reasons he has such a strong musical legacy is that he wasn't around long enough to start writing crap music.

Re: If you could bring a dead rock star back to life

I'm a big Manic Street Preachers fan so it would have to be Richey Edwards. His lyrics for the Holy Bible album were the best since the Smith's "Queen Is Dead" album.

Re: If you could bring a dead rock star back to life

Jim Morrisson all the way for me. This dude could fucking write! come on! the American Poet!!

I would also pick Ian Curtis!

Beethoven is a good one!

^this.

i honestly can't think of anyone i want back. i was a huge jim morrison fan, but he wouldn't be morrison if he didn't die. when lennon was killed, his best music was already behind him. elvis was fat. hendrix, would be cool to see how far he could have gone with that sound if he got deep and bluesy like buddy guy, hooker, etc. but his sound when he died i can't even tolerate anymore.

live for today.

also have to remember janice joplin, jerry garcia, jim morrison, jimi hendrix, shannon hoon, randy rhodes, eric carr.

oh yeah and fred durst

Re: If you could bring a dead rock star back to life

The Charlatans' keyboard player, shocking loss. And that sweet guy from Lush, tragic. And of course Richey from Manics, provided he's dead.

Apart from Ian Curtis ("Why?") and the greatest of them all, Keith Moon, the rest better stay dead.
