Re: Beirut Peace Parade - August 23rd, 2008

:Twilo:

I just got a phone call and I am unable to keep the news longer, and wana share it with you:

It happens that a friend of mine, a trance dj/prod, has been put in charge of the selection of the djs for this event; He just called me and told me the following points:

  • This event is sponsored by primary banks, major financial institutions, radio stations , newspapers and so many other good companies in different sectors

  • The sound system, lighting system and many other tech devices will be brought in from Dubai

  • The gig will be recorded through a "Protools" software and sold afterwards on DVD at Virgin Megastores

  • The gig will be transmitted LIVE on a local radio station

  • All local djs selected for this event will be playing 1hour set making turns on the huge trucks that will go through the city

  • Once all the trucks will gather in Martyr's Square (the biggest in the country), it is predicted that no less than 100.000 people will be massed up in the square for the main act which will take place on a HUGE central stage; and this will be at around 23:00

  • Starting at 23:00 a friend of mine will play his set until 01:30

[Edited]

  • Starting at 01:30 I should be performing the main act

Re: Beirut Peace Parade - August 23rd, 2008

^ Yes would love to get to wmcXX...lol...anytime I get the chance to cross the Atlantic, I will surely try to join.

But this gig so important to me, located in the center of the capital, a square that could fit up to 1.5 million people, VERY symbolic square! Huge stage packed with technologies and a probably amazing lighting system that could light all that huge open space.

Banks and major companies are sponsoring this unique event, so I can barely imagine what's gona be like....waw, playing in front of a sea of people for 4hrs+. What more could I dream of getting in a gig?

I JUST CANT WAIT !!!

(Not even a diamond gift would bring me much joy! ;) )

Re: Beirut Peace Parade - August 23rd, 2008

I just got a mail saying the peace parade has been postponed.. I hope it is not related to the bomb that went off this morning in northern Lebanon; 20 dead (of which 10 were soldiers), 50 injured... :(

#1061967Post 26 of 36

Re: Beirut Peace Parade - August 23rd, 2008

That really sucks Shiva!! Sorry to hear. Any word on when its been postponed till?

Heard about the bombing today. They're thinking it might be related to the president's visit to Syria. :(

Stay safe!

Re: Beirut Peace Parade - August 23rd, 2008

That's terrible.:( Those sort of events give us hope for the world :( A Peace parade postponed because of violence :(

Postponed or cancelled?

#1062034Post 28 of 36

Re: Beirut Peace Parade - August 23rd, 2008

I am not sure, but the organizer sent me a mail yesterday saying it was posponed without giving any further details... It was a fresh decision just taken before they sent me the mail, I donno if they will stick to it or go ahead with the parade as planned. Till now the countdown is still on on their website...

I am just waiting to see whats the final decision.... :what

By now we are starting to get used to having bombs, wars and stuff like start just before or during the summer season, thats the third year in a raw that trouble occur; Our local economy depends almost entirely on the tourism sector, and it seems some parties don't want this country to flourish in peace... :(

Re: Beirut Peace Parade - August 23rd, 2008

Thats an incredibly large square, amazing size for a show. You should be so excited to headline this one. Hopefully, it will get rescheduled soon, and peace will prevail.

Re: Beirut Peace Parade - August 23rd, 2008

Great news! I've never been to a party that big!! I prefer the cozier atmospheres. But I guess I can't knock it 'till I try it. I bought tickets for Ultra this past wmc and ended up selling them because it just looked too huge. I got to see all of my favorites upfront and personal.

Re: Beirut Peace Parade - August 23rd, 2008

I understand that Chanty, but from my perspective as a dj: The Bigger the Better, in this case size matters big time...

#1066422Post 35 of 36

Re: Beirut Peace Parade - August 23rd, 2008

I love the dingy dark intimate clubs :D But would love to go to one of the bigger events :D Hernan at Moonpark is my dream ! Actually we do the a occasional big event but usually it's trance.

What we get here is mainly festivals which consists of several stages, all with crappy sound, many Dj's playing 1 hour sets . I hate those!!

It's probably a population thing, we just don't have a big enough population to sustain really huge events!

Re: Beirut Peace Parade - August 23rd, 2008

Oops...I lie. I have been to a club complex here in Toronto called the Guvernment which with all of its rooms and the Kool Haus has a 10,000 person capacity. On most occasions I've been there either on the Guv side which holds 1600 or the Kool Haus side 2500 for the "smaller events" but I have gone when the entire complex is in full edm swing...it's packed to the rim!!:p
