hahahahah " ... girl!!! OH GIRL!!! nah nah nah .... " and all the mickey mouse crap. :Wasted:
"With a CD player you can put the CD in, press play and lock it in time, and it does it all for you. "
I could also burn a 2 hour set to CD prior to going on and then just play it when I'm supposed to DJ, but but who the fuck does that?
seriously, why are jocks dissing the CD/mp3 thing. I love it. Yoshitoshi closed down in DC over a year ago and I thought my DJing was over. I had to spend $50 - $75 a month just on shipping alone....now with beatport, EDM, 3 beat, etc., I can not only get the new shit, but tracks that would have never been released bc label mgrs like Oakey just don't like the track. whatever. fuck that monkey....:D

are you sure they closed down? i order from them all the time.
and they have downloads too
Hooj went out of business.. not yoshitoshi
tho www.hooj.com.. you can still order from
i agree with oakey....to the extent of laptops....cdj's sure....but once u go laptop u've basically broken down barriers for creativity within a parameter. What you can do with turntables, records, and maybe some cdj's is more intriguing than fucking around on a laptop.

i believe he was referring to the actual store location, which did close down.
the online operation continues though.
Re: A superstar DJ and his technology
what a tool!
i couldn't really understand some of the language he used as i'm from down under.. is that british for "i'm out of the game?"
all he's basically saying is how everything should stay the way it was in the nineties, and i think the millions of words sent back and forth across the internet and every other means of communication in the last three years would suggest that no, it shouldn't

bro the laptop is just storage and the software its the interface ...you use specially coded records that read the mp3 ...so you are still using vinyl..its called final scratch :DumbAss:
thank you captain obvious.....however, i wasn't talking about final scratch, i was talking about solely using the laptop as your powerhouse for performing in livesets. ie: using software like ableton during your performance....
oh and final scratch is ghey too....digital junkies can piss off...thanks..

Re: A superstar DJ and his technology
what a pile of crap, the whole thing that you just put a cd in and it does it for you, has he ever heard zabiela play, how you can embrace the technology to get a better live performance, the man is so out of touch.
digital junkies can piss off...thanks..
There always are ones who are afraid of technology rather than embracing it. Kind of like Bush. Kudos.
Re: A superstar DJ and his technology
nice to have a Dj related article on CNN nonetheless
Re: A superstar DJ and his technology
2 things:
"You're pulling records out, trying to match the key, the structure, looking for the breaks."
When did he start doing this??? Never did when I saw him.
"Paul Oakenfold is one of the world's leading DJs and remixers."

Eh? I use cdj's, but I don't use it as often as I use my tt's...my cdj's just sit around and it's rare that I pop a cd in.

I managed to get into a Coldcut show a few years ago and they basically were sitting behind a desk with two laptops. They cut up video and music live. You could see everything they were doing because their UI desktops were was beamed up on the screens. Amazing show. So, it can be done! At least by coldcut anyway...
the point is that, if used correctly, all this new technology makes creativity limitless, not more limiting, as Oakey suggests.
not to mention that as a Bedroom DJ and and horribly inept producer, I can still get my hands on good music and share my bad creations with others through the digital format.
