Shawshank Redemption and The Breakfast Club come to mind. Love the feel-good-I-can-do-anything endings.

was gonna say this movie. in the format of a story, the hero wins, in this movie, the hero is drugs, and the antagonist is humanity. in the end, drugs wins all 4 battles and shows how it really behaves.

and ellen bursten made me ball my eyes out at the end of that movie. she deserved the best actress award for this.

Re: Best Movie Endings

Usual Suspects for sure. That last scene with the closeup of Spacey's leg ... that was just sublime.

Seven would be a close second for the intense drama and dread.

I love Shawshank Redemption as a movie but the ending is kinda ok to me.

Re: Best Movie Endings

Um any movie with a twist. Love those. Just when u think you have it figured out boom.you don't. Signs & Basic come to mind

#1045304Post 16 of 38

Re: Best Movie Endings

The Usual Suspects Definitely Seven is way up there, The Sixth Sense even though I did get it.

My favourite was an old Kevin Costner, from the days when he was still gorgeous:lol:, No Way Out. A couple of really well done sex scenes as well.:)

Re: Best Movie Endings

Any discussion of great movie endings begins and ends with "The Usual Suspects" IMO. Absolutely gangbusters...

PRIMAL FEAR

When will I see you again? - That's up to the courts now. I don't want you to worry. I'm gonna stay on top of this, OK? Thank you. - Give me a call if you need to. - I will. - Mr Vail? - Yeah. Will you t-tell Miss Venable I'm sorry? Tell her I hope her neck is OK. Yeah. - What did you just say? - What? You told me you don't remember. You black out. So how do you know about her neck? Well, good for you, Marty. I was gonna let it go. You were looking so happy just now. I was thinking... To tell you the truth, I'm glad you figured it. 'Cause I have been dying to tell you. I just didn't know who you'd wanna hear it from. Aaron or Roy, Roy or Aaron.

Re: Best Movie Endings

yeah. usual suspects was on last night. I think it may be the only movie where the bad guy gets away. fucking great. i still cheer when spacey is walking down the street and goes from gimp to soze. ace. plus the way his driver/kobayashi looks at him when he gets in the car says like a 1000 words.

Re: Best Movie Endings

Has to be Carlito's Way:!:

Although someone might argue that Carlito's fate is actually being telegraphed in the beginning of the movie ... the suspense towards the ending is simply uncomperable.

Extreme performances, as well as Pacino's most convincing character make this a must-watch-film

Re: Best Movie Endings

the second lord of the rings when Gandalf is riding down the hill with the riders of Rohan following him. that is always a scene that charges me up.

#1045447Post 32 of 38

Re: Best Movie Endings

Thought the ending to The Prestige was kickass - one of those "should have seen it coming the whole way" type finishes. Memento had a really solid ending (or beginning?) as well. Both done by Christopher Nolan, not surprisingly.

Re: Best Movie Endings

the scence from forrest gump where is talking to her grave......

i cannot watch that movie from start to finish and not cry at that scene.

Re: Best Movie Endings

Re: Best Movie Endings

just looked through my movie collection... he's some of the more memorable endings of things that haven't been mentioned yet:

AZUMI! It's pretty unrealistic but the last ~15 minutes is just pure awesome

The Last King of Scotland was way intense. The ending made me squirm bigtime

City of God probably deserves "best movie" more than "best movie endings" but I think it also finished off perfectly

Broken Flowers wasn't nearly as intense or surprising as others but Bill Murray did it a lot of justice

Tideland was fucked from beginning to end... I think that the ending is the only way that the movie could've possibly made me feel like it was complete

Tsotsi had a good ending, but the alternate baby bottle scene is epic.

#1045573Post 36 of 38

Re: Best Movie Endings

Donnie Brasco had a great ending as well

#1045574Post 37 of 38

Re: Best Movie Endings

Crying Game

although technically its the best middle of a movie - not the end!

but yea - Seven and U Suspects are both phenomenal endings.
