I got this message this morning from their server

Your connection is restricted: You cannot search or chat. Your client version is too old. You need to upgrade to the latest version. Close this client, download new version from http://www.slsknet.org, install it and reconnect.

I downloaded the SoulSeek Client 156c version. But i still cant search or chat. Ive tried uninstalling, then reinstalling but I'm still getting the same message. Anyone got any ideas?

I'm getting this message to

IP: 217.43.53.66 Port 3207/tcp CLOSED. Your router and/or Soulseek client needs to be configured correctly.

Does anyone know how i configure my port and Router

Re: Is anyone else having trouble with Soulseek

Message from the Soulseek forums:

for users confused about how to get thier settings from soulseek version 156 to version 157 ns 12 the following should be helpfull

after installing 157 ns 12d open general options uncheck "save client data to registry" then close 157 then go to my computer click on the C: drive open the program files folder then open the soulseek folder ( it should have a list of .cfg files) copy the .cfg files then go to C:\Documents and Settings\all users\application data\soulseek on most versions of windows, on vista i think it's c:\ProgramData\Soulseek\ and past the .cfg files there if you dont see the application data folder when you open the al users folder change your folder settings to show hidden files and folders then open 157 and your user list and wishlist should be there if you get an error go back to where you pasted the cfg files and rename the blackbox.dll to oldblackbox .dll then start the client that should fix the error

 • 156 and 157 are on two different servers, that means that you won't see friends online in 157 that are only using 156. It also means that the 157 server doesn't know your username and password from 156, you will have to remake that account (with a password of your choice) or make up another username if your 156 username is already taken on the 157 server.
 • privileges are (I think) only automatically transferred to the new 157 server if your username is exactly the same as on the 156 server.
 • if that still doesn't work or your username on the 156 server is already taken on the 157 server, use the "Options, Check Privileges Status", "Report privileges problem!" button on the 157 client and it will be taken care of.
 • to be able to see the "c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\soulseek" folder you need to enable showing hidden files in windows explorer: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial62.html
 • if you have a different language of Windows then English, the folder might be named differently, for example in Spanish it is named: "Datos de programa".
 • blackbox.dll can only be a problem if you have it in your soulseek installation folder, the folder where the soulseek executable is (slsk.exe). For 156, the default location is "C:\Program Files\Soulseek", for 157, it is "C:\Program Files\Soulseek-test". If it's not there, it can't be a problem.

Hope this helps you out.

Re: Is anyone else having trouble with Soulseek

How many people are on 157 now? I've noticed less and less users on 156

The program can tell if your port is open so that your connections can flow through them easier. And you configure that in your router which is why they said that your router needs to be configured correctly.

Instructions for using Soulseek:
To ensure maximum enjoyment from Soulseek, before installing the program, remove it from your system and forget you ever downloaded it.
;)

j/k -- never had a lot of success with slsk.

Re: Is anyone else having trouble with Soulseek

Do people still use Soulseek and download with 30 kb/sec. from each other? Besides that I like the principle of ratio based Torrents better the reason I quit Soulseek was because there were so many dumbheads on it wanting everything and sharing their Windows drive or Rap albums. BTW, if you see a user TomTom on Soulseek that's NOT me. It seems they delete unused accounts because some time after I stopped using it, another guy used that nick and he had more than one confusing conversation with people I had on my list. I am sure it's nice if people you do not know start a conversation in the [ms] usual friendliness "hey motherfucker"

Re: Is anyone else having trouble with Soulseek

I still find some good shit on slsk. It's not exactly fast- but it works.

I've been using 156 this week because it didn't seem like I could find much on 157... probably gradually migrate.

username 157= suprememoves Get at me dog.

Comcast monitors for eMule usage though... so have to resort to SLSK
