DJ THREE and sasha last night

At club Escape in Minneapolis.

DJ Three opened up for sasha and I didn't want him to stop.. heard very few things about the man so i had no expectations, but holy shit he threw down an amazing set! Combine Cass, Tyrant and Nathan Fake and you have something close to Dj Three.

He threw down for about 2 hrs cause they couldnt get Sasha's laptop to work.. but then Sasha went on.

Sasha played some very good tracks but he really wasn't getting into it. Apparently he had some flight issues on the way there and was on a plane for like 10 hrs... but out of the 5 times I've seen Sasha, this performance is towards the bottom of the list.

Overall a good night, that club brings alot of D-bags though, everyone was fucked up, I felt like i was at an old school rave with a bunch of meat head clubbers invited :Rolling:

It does become entertaing to make fun of them all though!

Good night overall

anyone else there? comments?

Re: DJ THREE and sasha last night

I heard less than 500 showed for Sasha when I was talking to some people who left Sasha to hit up 1st Ave, Derrick May was fucking packed from start to finish and top quality folks for the most part....

Glad that at least Three rocked, hope he comes back soon as I want to catch him, but seeing May on a DVS-1 enhanced sound system just rocks......

See ya soon Ryan for another EB showcase with Nigel Richards...

Re: DJ THREE and sasha last night

When Three and Sasha were in Houston:

Three started off his set really boring me and got the crowd going towards the end of his set. He played techy throughout, but a nice opening set that had the crowd buzzing.

Still JVM is the best opening DJ ever imo.

"it took 2 hours before sasha was caned enough to get on the decks"

#281821Post 10 of 25

he prolly spilled coke in between the keys on his laptop, and spent the next two hours trying to do lines off his mac.

Re: DJ THREE and sasha last night

i saw them in nyc the night before. i personally thought it was the worst sasha set ive ever heard, and i've seen him a ton. he never let up, just pounded it all night. i held out for the end of his set thinking he could pull it out but it just never happened. granted he did have some gems (im not a trainspotter so i don't know the titles), the crowd was great and still managed to have fun but i hope this was an off weekend.

oh give me a fucking break.

loads of other producers that leave sasha in the dust imo, have been using Albeton for Live PA's, all of the sudden, Sarsha decides to jump on the bandwagon, and he's starting a revolution?

^^^^^ good point, I saw BT over two years ago at Icon, and thats all he basically used was Abelton.

wasn't everyone on the board here bashing BT for using it 'bout a year or so back

#282081Post 18 of 25

i don't think anyone is bashing sasha for using albeton. i applaud him actually, and hope he does well with it at his gigs.

but...he's not doing anything new, and people are giving him credit for OMG ALBETON AND SASHA!!! MY COCK IS HARD!!! A REVOLUTION IN AUDIO FROM NONE OTHER THAN THE INDUSTRY LEADER HIMSELF!!!!

Point is, he's merely taking up a tool that's been used for years by a lot of talented producers for LivePA, not revolutionizing anything with it. I'm sure he'll get really good at it, but he's an amateur with it now, leaving loops on too long, etc...he'd be put to shame by some of the live pa's i've seen using Albeton. He's cutting his teeth with the program, and people are making it to be the second coming of christ.

Jeez, I was being Ironic :?

#282111Post 21 of 25

i wasn't directing my comments at you in particular 2eq, athough, i missed the irony.

i've seen it stated on boards for awhile now, sasha and albeton this, and sasha and albeton that, the way forward and blah blah blah.

just had to get that off my chest. the lemmings come out in full force anytime sasha even wipes his ass and proclaim him King of Asswiping, it's getting ridiculous.

Safe. :Smiling:

What you say is all very true, but there is one thing to notice. Some time ago (about 4 months I think) there was a topic here about vinyl vs. cd's. I stated there that the future of djing is mixing and creating music live from comps. There was a huge response about how vinyl will never be replaced at best comps may be combined with using vinyl. Somehow now, after all this talk (and interviews) about Sasha and ableton nobody wants to argue that using laptops is not enough for a dj set. So that's probably Sasha's input to the topic - certainly there are better 'ableton djs' than he is, but it's his achievement that many people consider it normal to play a set from a computer.
