I am trying to find out what programs are out there that can be used to edit mixes that I record onto my computer from my turntables. Anything that can be used to balance the levels or give the mix that finished sound so it's not just a live recording.

I'm also trying to figure out what the best recording programs are.

Any help is much appreciated.

i always use ableton live for my promo mix compilations...really cool to us for checking out the music, ability to mess around with different parts and almost improvise like you would in a live environment.

i record, normalise and or make any volume adjustments, then compress all in SoundForge

one of my mates uses pro tools

I have a related question. Is there a way of getting rid of the random clicks and pops that occur when recording into my computer? I'm not sure if I'm just using a bad program to record with (Cool Edit Pro). I keep my levels around -3dB like mentioned earlier. What causes these annoying pops?

is it a pop in the actual sound or in the recording? i get skips sometimes when i record and i think it's because i record into an older computer and it frigs up either while recording or while compressing into the mp3 because it can't handle the load. it has to be during one of these processes because there is certainly no skip that i notice while mixing.

could be dodgy cables going from mixer to computer, could be something running in the background whilst recording thats inadvertantly using memory as for getting rid of it post recording, thats a tough ask.. the only things i ever do is normalise and compress.. sometimes adjust the volume level if it was recorded rally low, but i typically keep it at -3dB

do you play off of cd's or serato/traktor or something like that? if cd's it could be a bad burn...

been using sound forge 6 since 2002. never had one problem with it. although before that i used protools on a mac, and that was the pimpness! 8)
