I'm going on my own later this afternoon, it doesn't bother me.

Got me thinking about other people though... would you go on your own, or would you not? Do you think it's odd to go on your own?

As none of my friends are really into house music, I tend to go on my own quite a lot, especially if theres a really good dj playing who I haven't heard before. I always meet nice people and have a boogie :p

Re: Going clubbing on your own

It's an afternoon boat party in Southampton with Paulo Mojo. Should be good for shits and giggles.

Re: Going clubbing on your own

if its a boat party, those are usually pretty intimate. i'm sure you'll meet tons of cool people.

Yeah, will be good bank holiday fun!

Anyone else go out on their own?

Re: Going clubbing on your own

i'd say the amount of times i've gone out on my own has got to be in the hundreds at this point. i've met loads of cool people along the way and have no intention of stopping any time soon.

Re: Going clubbing on your own

I go out a lot on my own, here in Austria there´s not a lot of people that like house. I´m cool with it but sometimes I would really love someone standing besides me making the same HOLY CRAP face that I put on with a good mix.

Re: Going clubbing on your own

I have to add my post that I have also met a lot of cool people along the way, and we meet at partys from time to time

Re: Going clubbing on your own

just last month i flew to chicago for the night to catch sasha & digweed by myself. i met up with one ms'r and tried to meet up with another. i live in louisiana and over the years i've gone to raves at the old state palace theatre on my own. as well as clubs in houston, dallas, austin, and even twilo in new york. not to mention that while traveling in europe 4 yrs ago by myself,i planned my trip around a few clubs in various places. but it worked out that i met up with kinky j in belgium and we went to a club and i went to see digweed in budapest with people from the hostel i was staying in. to me it's about the music, sure it's great when you've got a good buddy there experiencing it with you, but it isn't necessary!

Re: Going clubbing on your own

well, ive done this too in the past going out by myself but imo nothing compared when there is someone else close to you either your best mate or girlfriend to share with him/her whats happening in the club and then talk about it in the morning while chilling out.. also it probably depends on what youve eaten or what youve drunk too. i presume drinking some booze in a party or maybe taking an upper would prob be ok when youre on your own,but its different when you take loads of chemicals.. i dont think i can imagine myself eating two trips and with a gram of ketamine in my pocket go out on my own... FUCK THAT!!!

Re: Going clubbing on your own

I've been to ibiza on my own because no-one else could get the time off or fancied going. It was strange at first, but you get the chance to relax, do your own thing and hear some amazing music.

If I hadn't gone I would have missed the best sets I've ever witnessed from Sasha or Digweed ... there's always other to talk to and you can go on the pull without anyone denting your style !

Re: Going clubbing on your own

I used to do it quite a bit in the 1990's. Friends would always say they wanted to go to Cream, Gatecrasher, MOS or Fabric and to let them know next time i was going. But they would drop out at the last minute with some feeble excuse, when really they found it easier going down our local Pub/Club and popping pill's down there. Which i never saw the point of. I never wanted to look back and say i wish id seen this DJ or been to this club. I didn't let them hold me back. It can seem a bit strange, but i think it really depends on the Club and the Crowd that you are going to. I always went for the music first although drugs do play a part of it. As soon as i hit the dance floor i usually loose my mates anyway. I was a bit of a ladies man back then, so i would usually end up meeting people there anyway. Clubbing on your own isn't for everyone, some people wouldn't even consider it no matter how good the night is or the DJ. A few months ago i was going to go to either Budapest or Bucharest to see Tenaglia on my own. I've got mates who would go but had other commitments. One of the clubs i want to go to is Kristal in Bucharest. When they have the wright night and i have no family commitments (I have a 9 month son) i will go. On my own if i have to. I wouldn't say i was a loner but i don't need to be part of a group in order to do something. Then again going clubbing with mates is brilliant because you do have someone to share the experience with. I have friends at work who go aboard to football matches on their own. To me its the same.

Re: Going clubbing on your own

Nothing wrong with going clubbing on your own. Most of my friends aren't into electronic music at all, and the few that are can't always come to the things I want to go to, so I go out by myself quite a bit. But seeing as the scene is quite small here in Perth there are always familiar faces in the clubs as everyone goes to the same house/techno nights.

Re: Going clubbing on your own

I do it all the time and love it. !!Although now I know so many people it probably doesn't count as on my own anymore.

I went to Turnmills and The End on my own when I went to England a while back. Wasn't going to miss out on Satoshi Tomiie or Steve Lawler!!

In some ways I miss the old days when I just went in and danced all night . Now I feel obligated to talk sometimes. I've met some really great people though :D

I love just walking into a club and hearing the music !! :D

Re: Going clubbing on your own

Same with me....I go out quite often on my own to clubs. Def when I travel. But as you said DIDI, I've met so many people now that I see at the same clubs and parties that it's not like being alone at all. And I too sometimes miss the days of being alone and anonymous and just dancing by myself! But I think I much prefer having peeps I know around. :D Dance on loners!!!!

Re: Going clubbing on your own

i go out alone all the time. ive done it so much that i always know people now.... so it feels like i am not even going out alone, cause i always have people to hang out with

Re: Going clubbing on your own

i prefer going out on my own than being with a group of people. going out to see a dj is very individual thing to do. I recommend everyone do it at least once. and to re-hash what everyone has said here so far, you do meet tons of cool people along the way.

/hippie

Re: Going clubbing on your own

Always fun to go out on your own, meet others who are into the dance music scene. Just caught Burridge this weekend and Dubfire tonight, Behrouz Mon. Tough weekend.

Re: Going clubbing on your own

I have only positive things to say about going out out solo. It makes for a more spontaneous experience thats for sure. Often, when i go to clubs with a group of people the night is more restricted in a way because i am in a sense obligated to chill with my friends and i usually won't be as out going as if i was by myself. It's a great experience because you are more free to do whatever.

I went on my own in San Francisco for Danny Tenaglia last month. Nobody else I knew wanted to show up at 4:30am like I did. :)

Re: Going clubbing on your own

I've always managed to hustle up some people to go clubbing, so I've only clubbed once or twice alone.

I like the company because there's nothing exchanging smiles or that WTF look with your friends when the set is good.

I never knew Mercury was such a bunch of Norman no mates... ;)

Ive never done it but nearly did once (until someone strapped on a pair) and certianly would if the night was worth it with no qualms at all.

That WTF look sums up what is great about the whole EDM scene!! :what

Im not so sure bout that. When ur with ur mates u have so much shared history, especially of they are mad for the music as well. All the constant searching for tunes and sets, discussing tunes and mixes etc. And then when u have a WTF moment u all understand exactly what that look means and represents.

I still cant believe how many peeps go out on their own. I thought quite a few people might have been out once or something at most. Thats real commitment

i agree, plus i typically know a bunch of people when i get there anyway..plus sometimes at the end of the night it is a pain in the ass waiting for people to regroup to get ready to leave

Re: Going clubbing on your own

I suppose with me it started when i was 15. I was really into Bands at the time so if there was a band i wanted to see, i didn't let other people stop me from going. Where i lived you had to travel and most people didn't want to. In the late 1990's I started going to Cream at first on an organised coach trip with some mates then other times with mates in a car. But if no one wanted to go and there was some DJ i wanted to see. I would just get in the car and drive. Stick on a great set and drive. It was a 400 mile round trip and i really enjoyed the drive. I could really get into the music while driving on my own uninterrupted. Cream was really going off in them days. You could feel the excitement even in the queue before you got in there. After a few months id met plenty of people there and a girlfriend So i would travel up on a Friday after work and come drive back Monday before work. I had some of the best experiences of my life in them days. But if hadn't got off my arse and gone there i would of never had them.

A few years later i moved house and met some new friends who at first thought i was crazy because i suggested driving to Newcastle to see Deep Dish, a 600 mile round trip. Some of them came with me and where completely blown away. After that we never looked back we would travel anywhere (even went to NY to see DT) I suppose my later friend's shared that One Love Music. Some of the others it was all about drugs and getting wanker-ed. I knew which friend's i wanted to hang around with.

Re: Going clubbing on your own

Way back when, most of my friends were not into edm, a few were but they didn't always want to go out when I did. So I'd be sitting there at home knowing a great dj was spinning at a club and I'd want to burst with going out to it. There would be a battle going on in my head....just go Chanty, no you can't go alone you loser loner, fuck it..who cares?, just go and dance! So I'd chug a few beers and get my ass out there. I don't have that battle in my head anymore, not for a long time. It's a no brainer....just do it!! I would have felt way worse for missing a great night of fantastic music and dancing for my own insecurities.

Re: Going clubbing on your own

Must admit I've never been out in the UK on my own, but if i want to fly abroad i'll do it - I started catching Jazz festivals/concerts and this then spilled over to DJ's. Its all aboiut the music.

Last summer I visited Ibiza solo as well. I was traveling through western Europe by myself and there was no way that I was going to miss Sasha play on the island when I was already going to be in Spain.

I had such an amazing time. It really opened my eyes to how huge and awesome the scene was in Ibiza and fueled my love for house and techno music even more.

It really is all about the music for me. There are some DJ's (and music for that matter) that cannot be missed imo. For those occasions I will be going to the show no matter what, regardless of if I am with someone or not.
