LSD inventor Albert Hofmann dies

Mr Hofmann thought LSD could have uses treating mental illnesses

Albert Hofmann, the Swiss chemist who discovered the hallucinogenic drug LSD, has died of a heart attack at his home in Basel at the age of 102. Mr Hofmann first produced LSD in 1938 while researching the medicinal uses of a crop fungus.
He accidentally ingested some of the drug and said later: "Everything I saw was distorted as in a warped mirror".
He hoped LSD could be used to treat mental illness, but it became a popular street drug in the 1960s.
'Turn on, tune in, drop out' While working with the drug in the Sandoz pharmaceutical laboratory a few years after first producing it, Mr Hofmann ingested some of the drug through his fingertips. He went home and experienced what he described as visions of "fantastic pictures, extraordinary shapes with intense, kaleidoscopic play of colours". The drug was popularised by Harvard professor Timothy Leary who suggested that people "turn on, tune in, drop out".
Rock stars and the counter-culture of the 1960s picked up LSD as a wonder drug but horror stories began to emerge of users suffering permanent psychological damage. LSD was made illegal in many countries beginning in the late 1960s.

Re: Turn on tune in drop dead

LSD made me yell at my friends mom for "giving me the whole fucking garden" when she gave me too much salad at dinner time..It was then, that me and my friend ran outside with his mom chasing us, and then threw our hamburgers at his mailbox screaming that we weren't hungry.

I could go on forever with memorable experiences like that while on LSD..Intense and funny shit.

Re: Turn on tune in drop dead

I just saw an interesting piece on the history channel, Peyote to LSD. It told all about his first accidental dosage and the ensuing bike ride home. Cheers to him for not throwing the batch away in fear.
i think everyone should do acid once.
remember the old saying that if you did it more than 7 times you were legally insane....

i thought the part we he describe taking too much was very accurate....

"I was filled with an overwhelming fear that I would go crazy. I was transported to a different worl in a differnt time" Mr. Hoffman wrote.

actually its pretty scary stuff if not in the right enviroment and mind frame...

Re: Turn on tune in drop dead

there's a reason the governments of the world don't like this guy. Because he helped to free minds, when all the politicians do is try to oppress them.

102 is a great year to stop living. May your journey be fulfilling.

This has got to be one of the best phycedelic posters around. There are 100's of images hidden in this (some of them pretty evil).
