DING DING

Round 3

#279621Post 42 of 103
a based my opinion on sasha's involver cd...fully made in a studio.....with ableton live......the program that automatically beatmatches
lol, I don't think Sasha has to prove to anyone he can beatmatch, he has been a master of it for almost 15 years, Involver is a progression from the traditional art of DJing, a new concept, that i'm sure will be immitated as pretty much everything Sasha has ever done has been copied in some way or another.

#279627Post 43 of 103

it's not only about beatmachting.....it's about twisting and turning sounds and beats...when you are mixing 2 or 3 records.....i'ts about all those things together....making a mix is doing one thing of a kind......its about your sounds and skills of a moment...express your feelings at a moment.......so you can never make 2 "live" mixes that sound the same. making a mix in a studio takes all that magic away.

j/k mate. If you see him live (if you havent already) you might change your opinion.
saw him live 2x with chuck c in fact and both times were blah, except the 2nd time when he dropped a couple breakbeat tunes for me! 8)

#279636Post 47 of 103

Personaly satanbram i dont really care where the mix was done, its all about the listen and what you yourself get out of it. Where or how the dj produced the set is not important to me as long as i get the enjoyment i crave from music. However, i would suggest to Chem, like i said in my earlier post, to go and see JZ live, he really did open my mind by the way he put tracks together.

#279638Post 48 of 103

thats a strong point musical journey.....but for me a cd is much more interesting when its done in one take

#279639Post 49 of 103

So, you are given a cd, you have no idea how the set is mixed. Would you then not be able to make a judgment on this mix untill you know how it was recorded?

#279642Post 50 of 103

you can always hear if its a live..."one take" mix or not

#279648Post 51 of 103

Then my opinion is you are listening too much into how the set is done and not paying enough attention to the music itself. Only today i listened to set i know was recorded live but you could not tell the difference betweent that and a set done on say, Ableton or for that matter a pc.

#279651Post 52 of 103

Chemical Beavis - Doesn't it tell you something when Top DJ's (Including Sasha) have taken a huge amount of interest in Zabiela's new and fresh take on our wonderful world of beats and breaks. the fact that Diggers and Sasha are STILL blown away by some of the stuff that Zabiela does live & in the studio says alot. If you don't like his style then fair enough, makes no difference to me.....but to say he's shit and his tune selection is poor is Complete bollocks and you know it. :Rolling:

satanbram - 1) don't start on Beavis coz you won't win. 2) he's right, Sasha has known how to mix seamlessly since JZ was knee high to a grasshopper (i.e. very young). 3) Involver was meant to be more about him re-editing all the songs on the CD with his own personalised take on them and YES using new and interest technology to produce it. Unsurprisingly he took SOME inspiration for this from Zabiela

NOW BOTH OF YOU PUT YOUR HANGBAGS AWAY

Have you ever even used Ableton live? It does NOT automatically beat match for you, and even if it did, that is far from what mixing is all about.

besides, Ableton is a sequencing tool, you cant remix a complete track JUST using Ableton. But you already knew that, seeing as how you know everything else. Also, I'd love to know how you ALWAYS can tell if a cd is mixed one time live.

What did you think of Diggers set - coz I spoke to my mate Sam (friends with Pam) and he said he was shit!!!! No sure I belive him. just curious to see what you thought?

#279658Post 57 of 103

and yes I read the story about diggers telling you to fuck off...... brilliant, absolutely brilliant

#279661Post 58 of 103

I would give my car (well, i know it's cheap but it's the only thing i can give) to see BOTH playing here.

I don't understand why some people try to make their points talking about Sasha. I think Zabiela skills and music selection are enough to get into a music lover mind. The diversity of styles he uses, the amazing mixing skills, the live remixing of tracks with cdjs and efx. Obviously that's best if you see him live, i saw a crowd very reluctant to breaks driving crazy when he played at Pacha buenos aires, a prog-house crowd.. and he owned the place.

Sasha likes everyone. You take him wherever you want and I bet the crowd will love it. I enjoyed his music couple times live and he does magic.

So my point is, why argue? Zabiela owns, Sasha does too, this topic is about Zabiela, if you don't like it, click elsewhere and keep your keys away from here

#279663Post 59 of 103

Pam as in Silverfox?

Im not really into judging how a dj plays im just there to get as messy as i can and enjoy myself. I have absolutley no idea what time Diggerz came on but as far as i can remeber the music for me was good all night. I have read a few reports though that say he wasnt up to scratch. By the time the main dj comes on to play at a club im usually up there in the clouds somewhere............spannered......... enjoying myself.

If those that want to make a judgment are just there to judge then pity on them.

#279669Post 60 of 103

As in SilverFox. Met her a couple of years ago at Bedrock in Brighton. Haven't seen her in a while but am going down to Brighton this weekend so hopefully might catch up then!

As for judging, i'm with you on this one

#279672Post 61 of 103

Well say hello from me will you, we were supposed to meet up down there but neither of us could get a signal on our mobiles. The club is about 3 miles underground ffs! Still its probably best we didnt cos i seemed to be pissing (<<hahahahahahaha) people off that night.

Re: Zabiela OWNS!

yess unome, I worked with ableton live (version 4.03) and mine can do the trick. and as I also set....it's not about beatmixing...it's about all the things you do when you are mxing. in my opinion the best ways to show your skills is to do a "one take" mix. you can also make a movie about a soccergame and use real footbal players as actors. you can make the most incredible actions and goals and do some takes over if you are note happy with them. you can do takes again till you got the scenes how you want them to be. But I think watching that game wouldn't be any fun.

the only point I wanted to make was that the skills of zabiela are mindblowing.....even more if you compare them to other dj's. I didn't wan't to say that sasha is bad...or that I dont like him

#279872Post 64 of 103

^^ and you make your point well sir but what you and Chem are at loggerheads over is JZ`s actuall tracks. Chem says that they are not to his liking.. or words to that affect.

#279881Post 65 of 103

Re: Zabiela OWNS!

Z is boring, he's a good mixer but his progression is slow and sleepy. He doesn't use enough lyrics either. That's why hip hop is killing techno, it's using beats with lyrics. Give people what they want, because you're a superstar if you can please everyone.

But thats just your opinion, his so called "skills" don't impress me at all, they are irritating, his sets are bland and undirectional, and all this bullshit about doing a mix in "one take" what do you think Sasha has been doing for the last 15 years? I can even quote Digweed saying in an interview in 2000, "Sasha is still the master of the long musical mix" Zabiela can't touch Sasha, he hasn't got the creativity, blahhhhhhhh :Wasted:

sasha was maybe one of the first who played prog...but after that he didn't do something surprising anymore. he only plays simple sets with commercial big prog hits and the sequence of his tunes is so predictable. what he does isn't bad for people who like things easy. who prefer a comic book above some real lecture.
