Re: Balance 013 - SOS
What's up with you dudes (dudettes?) drinking the tall glass of Haterade?
I appreciate that we're all borderline music snobs (complete with denial issues of same), but I am totally amazed by the lackluster reviews of this comp... I love it! Also very shocked at the Demi bashing... the guy's got some of the best booth presence I've ever seen, he's delivered a few blinding Kiss mixes, and his monster performance at Sonic here in Toronto rates among one of the best nights I've ever had.
I agree that the SOS sound is a bit high octane at times (even when paired with amazing substances), but I'll definitely be blaring all 3 discs through my headphones this weekend when we head to the mountains for some spring skiing.
At a minimum, I can't help but appreciate the fact that EQ's given three DJs with brilliant track selection/technical mixing/overall chemistry some room to run... you can easily notice each on of their individual touches and the result is a comp with everything from spacey studio bits to hard charging material which replicates the experience of seeing them live.
Call me bananas, but I rate this. Now when's a Dana Bergquist comp disc coming out???!?
we are all musical snobs, its almost expected when being an EDM fan.. but leave your haterade blasts at the door mate, everyone can have an opinion, and though ive not listened to it, i find it difficult to believe something that works well in a live setting such as the desyn, omid and demi "tag team", can work even remotely well on a studio cd...
Dana deffo has some good remix work out, though i think it may be a while before he is at the stature of putting out a balance comp or something of the like
