Off to New York - any advice greatly appreciate

I see there are a few of you on here from New York. We are taking the family to New York for 10 days on 22nd [staying at a friends house in Clifton NJ. Any advice re car hire companies and good vinyl shops would be much appreciated [and club nights on 29th - not sure if night out is possible but maybe!!]
