I just got back to work after vacation and it occures that for a nice start of the academic year all phd students got 10% more scholarship and a new comp!   Last year I bought myself (from my own money) a laptop as I didn't have anything to work on. Now I come to my room and what I see is a brand new machine, with LCD monitor standing still unpacked in the corner. :)

Nice. I am happy to hear that Poles are making good. This past Spring I heard some hell stories, it seemed some where doing well, and others were having a very difficult time.

Hesh.

Re: The world is getting a bit better...

Well it's certainly a crazy country... Just so that you don't get a false impression and think we have a paradise here - here's a typical polish story: from 1st Oct there are special regulations in EU for travelling with pets. You need a special pass for each of your animals. The regulations were to become effective from 1st of may but the date was pushed back a couple of times. Of course only in Poland the authorities did not prepare for it, even though there was enough time for it. For 3 months nobody cared enough to actually PRINT the documents  Not to mention starting a proper database... So now it's 6th Oct and I have to leave tomorrow for Hungary and I don't know if I'll be able to pass the border with my dogs... :| Me and my friends made a thousand calls, including the chief vet in PL and nobody knows ANYTHING. Typically Polish.

we got some poles doing building work in the ground floor flat. so far they've managed to cover our flat in dust, turn off all the electricty (so all our food was destroyed) and take down our door!

can someone tell me the polish for Hello and Good morning. They can't speak a single word of english and I want to be polite in the mornings.
