this is really wierd here. I've bought a new harddisk a month ago. Haven't had any problems with it really. but now seconds ago I used a recovery program to find some files i deleted a while back and it gives me tons of songs i'm sure i haven't downloaded EVER, i mean it has westlife, TLC, The lion king, xzibit :FuckOff: and some Dutch stuff that's really lame. :?: has someone in the store been using this for a while and then sold it as a new one :?: :?:

if you got the HD as a return (i.e. your previous hard drive died on you and they sent you this one in exchange) that right there is the reason why..... returns are ALWAYS refurbished / repaired drives

very well could have been repackaged and resold as 'new'...you never know sometimes. Where'd you buy it from?

local computer store. it wasn't in a box or anything, it was packed in some special anti-static plastic bag and that was it

check the top label for the word 'recertified' they usually sell those HDs too.
local computer store. it wasn't in a box or anything, it was packed in some special anti-static plastic bag and that was it
Weird. I'd go back and bitch at why it wasn't marked as used. And ask why they were selling used shit so expensive. And get a refund!

Re: WTF?!?

I would call and/or take it back...it's the concept of selling something 'new' that's not marked as such that shouldn't be done. Computer stores sometimes (especially the non-retail variety) theoretically could get away with a lot of this stuff because the average computer user is dumb as a doorknob and doesn't have a clue how many things work and run...just as long as the system itself runs.

You could get an exchange, a refund, or a partial refund of the difference (new vs. used), provided you have original receipt documentation of the purchase and based on store policies...but if it's within a month you could still be able to get the situation resolved. Anything beyond that may be more of a struggle...

Above all, don't go in though and bitch them out right off the bat, that almost never resolves a situation...only go that route if they are being real hard asses about it.

get this little program called hdd health (freeware) from http://www.panterasoft.com/ , install it, then when you run it click on your drive, go to extended info and on the bottom you can see the power-on hours for the drive. that way you will know how much its been used.

Re: WTF?!?

THE ULTIMATE CURE for all tech problems is a hammer and anger.

however this might hurt your wallet down the line.

it seems that computers and internet problems are becoming as normal as rush hour traffic..........

why does your computer automatically download 50 items of adware everytime you log on ....

#274390Post 16 of 20

just format your "new" HD, it will do the same as a really new one, it will store your music the same way.

Re: WTF?!?

I?d be very unhappy, buying a drive and getting a second hand one.
In the UK the shop would be breaking the law selling a used drive as new.

Take it back and complain.
