A documentary that should be mandatory to watch, a history lesson to anyone that's ever set foot at a club and was captured by the grooves of house music. This 15 episode will guide you through the early days of Larry Levan's Garage, The Warehouse, WBMX, Trax Records, Jamie Principle and Frankie Knuckles' "Your Love" and Jesse Saunders' "On and On", Ron Hardy's Music Box - home of Jack, the 303 & DJ Pierre inventing acid house, Derrick May's "Strings of Life" that creates a new genre called techno, Tony Watson, Goldie, Pete Tong and yes, even Oakenfold is interviewed among many legendary figures who created Music for all of us in the past decades. Watch, learn and listen to what they have to say. Enjoy! Re: History of House Music

great stuff... I really like DJ Piere's opinion about "the sound"...and its nice to see all the big names talk about the roots...I never knew a lot of these things. I thought it was all about New Order/ Happy Mondays...

p.s. where does Trance come into the picture?

BIG THANK YOU

Have this, interesting for sure, recommended.

Simon Reynold's Energy Flash as well.

Re. those videos, any more info on them? Who produced them, anyway to get them in proper releases?

"If you ignore the cliched, breakdown-build-anthem template side of the genre that is so canned and predictable you can set your watch to it, trance is still pretty fun. Unless you're trying to be a Sasha worshipping pretentious snob not partaking in that, in which case you don't even want to admit you're listening to trance anymore."

from what I read somewhere, this tv series never been released. so, taking this into account, let see if the mods allow posting rapidshare dl links coz' i've just found them.

isnt ready yet ?

#970440Post 18 of 46

Re: History of House Music

i saw on the video that it was a channel 4 production. And it always seems to me that Channel 4 has a lot of great stuff on it...they did all the Matt Collings art programs too...But they never seem to release any of it on DVD. Which is a DAMN SHAME.

BTW. I did convert it to DVD and it's pretty nice. Only a tiny bit of delay on the voices.

Hmmm that's a pity, would rather have a good quality version of those videos to watch on TV.

Just finished watching it. Seen it before, but it's still brilliant. Highlight: Shaun Ryder saying a whole sentence without swearing.

Re: History of House Music

you can notice that there really isn't a place in the video for trance...or even for Progressive...obviously they didn't do much for talking about the recent history.

Re: History of House Music

i just 1:01AM began work on uploading part 3, you'll have the link when i wake up.

you are all very welcome. i have been wanting to share this but i didn't know if the BBC would bother making it available for sale. But they didn't.

It really is probably the BEST dance music doc that has come around. with Modulations being in 2nd place.

Re: History of House Music

yeah it's a good one. and you can ACTUALLY find that one in stores. LOL.

It's about the broad range of electronic music, from John Cage, to Stockhausen, to Can, to Eno, to Oval, to Genesis P O, to Sasha, to Carl Cox, to Frankie Knuckles and more.
