Dawn Dibbley could probably do a better GU CD!
he's in the right sort of vein.
then again, he is of our generation, hence to cool for todays kids!
Re: Felix Da Housecat To Do The Next Global Underground
just got this. Will have a listen tomorrow.. will let you know how it goes.
Re: Felix Da Housecat To Do The Next Global Underground
Ok i have had a proper listen to both disks. Disk 1 is not bad not good either. A couple nice tracks in there. The music on disk 1 is pretty hard .. not great though. Disk 2 is even worse. A couple nice track's but all this "ELECTRO" house crap. Track 1 is nice on disk 2 .. out of 10 i would give it a 4. What has happened to my GU :(

Re: Felix Da Housecat To Do The Next Global Underground
I actually had a punt on this last week and was quite suprised. It covers quite a few genres, but I think did it fairly well. I think it was born to fail, it was certainly interesting.
Re: Felix Da Housecat To Do The Next Global Underground
Yes, it's not bad. I wouldn't buy it though.
Re: Felix Da Housecat To Do The Next Global Underground
I don't think anything can be worse than Sharam's effort
I don't think anything can be worse than Sharam's effort
Actually, there were a lot of great tracks on that mix. The problem was he packed to many emotional tracks into it. The amount of tracks I have found while doing tracklistings that were on that mix is unreal, and they were all great tracks, that seemed to go unnoticed on that mix.
Re: Felix Da Housecat To Do The Next Global Underground
I liked Sharam's Dubai mix as well. Flowed well, great mix to put on while at a house party.
As for Felix's mix - I didn't really like it - he's a better producer than a dj in my eyes.
Re: Felix Da Housecat To Do The Next Global Underground
Nose bleed techno doesn't normally work well at an afterparty. It tends to send everyone home early.
Re: Felix Da Housecat To Do The Next Global Underground
There are only 2 GU's I have never managed to finish listening to, because they were so bad, Layo & Bushwacka's and James Lavelle Bangkok. Adam Freeleand's was difficult.
Never heard the Carl Cox one so I can't comment.
Re: Felix Da Housecat To Do The Next Global Underground
^Ditto. Never opened the L&B one.
Re: Felix Da Housecat To Do The Next Global Underground
The Carl Cox one is brutal. I didn't mind James Lavelle in Bangkok, seeing as he was trying something vastly different than the other mixes - and I generally like what he's done production wise. It's still not a mix that's as good as his Barcelona and Romania mixes (also two mixes that don't get a lot of love here).
I think I've listened to the L&B mix...twice?
The Adam Freeland mix was kind of disappointing as well, just like the Plump DJ's double cd - both are incredible breaks DJs and it feels like they couldn't let loose. Part of me wonders if that was a licensing issue, or if something else interfered with the development of the mixes.

I am a big fan of Barcelona, both cds are exceptionally well put together, especially the breaks one, which I cannot praise enough
but I can't say the same about Romania, which was too self-centered dare I say, and it didn't do the talent of Lavelle justice, not as a dj and as a producer, maybe it was simply a bad idea to put out mixes like that specifically on a GU imprint IMO
Re: Felix Da Housecat To Do The Next Global Underground
Nothing wrong with Barcelona, it outlived much progg fodder.
Re: Felix Da Housecat To Do The Next Global Underground
I actually dug the Romania mix from Lavelle just for it's scattergun kind of approach, even more so when I listened to the 3 part live recording. It also helps that I'm a fan of Queens of the Stone Age because of his remixes.
