Live recording from Giant, LA.

This event I'm sure. http://photo.rukes.com/belo3/belo3.html

Funny cause I just put this pic as my wallpaper from that event.

Re: Digweed THIS week

He doesn't use vinyl at all anymore?

#963476Post 3 of 62

Re: Digweed THIS week

Hasn't used since 2004.

Re: Digweed THIS week

I thought he was using both, this is the first time I see the setup with only CD decks (not that I get to see the DJ booths he plays in all the time).

Re: Digweed THIS week

I saw him on Mayday in 2004 when he still played about 10 records from vinyl of his 3 hour set, I think he went to all cd soon after. Although he's been always saying in his interviews that he still buys a lot of vinyl, he's just done enough lugging it around airports in his career so now he rips everything.

Re: Digweed THIS week

Must be that 7hr set from this past Sept. Belo is in San Diego though Pretty sure he played at Vanguard LA that night. Either way anytime he plays over his usually 3hrs you really get to hear him stretch his legs The build up is so much more subtle and dark than the usual parachute drop into the Vortex.

Re: Digweed THIS week

Still would've preferred more from from Tel Aviv but any live set from Digweed always goes down nicely.

YO, what about belo??? He's not going to be there is he, not on the calander if so, just checking. (infected mushrooms at belo tonight...considering going, but not sure yet)

Re: Digweed THIS week

Pity there's no more Tel Aviv wanted to see how that set developed.

Re: Digweed THIS week

If it was the show on the t3 tour with MSTRKFT in March I was there.

If it was the Avalon, LA show September 2nd I was lucky enough to photograph that event.

Drew (Rukes) is my buddy.

Re: Digweed THIS week

There is some vortex going on in this set.

#963951Post 20 of 62

Re: Digweed THIS week

Hmm, I thought it was a bit odd that he decided to air this mix in particular, a) because it's nearly a year old, he usually airs more recent stuff and b) it's a really uneven mix; seems like there's no build, just tracks thrown together...not something I'd expect of Digweed.

#963966Post 21 of 62

Re: Digweed THIS week

hasnt anyone got a tracklist for the guest mix ?

this weeks is outstanding

Re: Digweed THIS week

WTF is this vortex shit people talk about, seriously?

#963973Post 23 of 62

Re: Digweed THIS week

Digweed-flow Greg.

Chloe coined it, meaning how you get sucked into the Digweed-vortex and dance for hours losing all track of time even when sober.

I thought it a brilliant description.

JK224 I was thinking the same, what the fuck. I bet people would much rather taken another hour from Tel Aviv.

#963991Post 24 of 62

Re: Digweed THIS week

The vortex is that slow build leading to about that 2rd hour or so when he drops THAT track and everything afterwards is loss of conscious time, absorbed in musical mayhem. Weird he chose the Mar show when the LA Sept. show was mental.

very impressed with Pedro Puentes mix. Pity about the ads though.

Dude you've been around since 2004 and you don't know the Vortex (tm)?!;)

You must've experienced it at least once if you caught Digweed playing a fairly long set. Someone on here described it as having your brain scooped out and replaced with ... sound/music.

#964117Post 28 of 62

Re: Digweed THIS week

Really detest the track around the break, at 26ish minutes ... I think that just about epitomizes everything I loathe about this 'electro-influence.'

#967166Post 29 of 62

Re: Digweed THIS week

i love how the vortex has taken on new meanings thru the years.

its the best way to describe what diggers does. it was me that said he scooped out ur brain.

;)

I don't use vinyl.

Re: Digweed THIS week

I've been into the music since 1997-ish and have seen Digweed countless times at Bedrock in London and festivals etc. I agree that he can create a journey etc but I've never experienced time loss etc....

Re: Digweed THIS week

then joo have never been to a proper digweed nite.

;)

Re: Digweed THIS week

I certainly have, many many times. He's the only DJ that can have me still going strong at 8am like it was still 2am. Any other DJ and I'd be checking my watch at 5 and thinking its time to go home. The vortex is amazing imo.

Yeah, really digging the mix, might try some DIY editing when I get the time, too much of a pity putting up with that long break between such a spacey mix. WTF's the guy on about shaking his hand?! :|

Re: Digweed THIS week

When JD played for Coxy at Space in 2006 I was practically rooted to the spot for 2-hours just taking in the amazing music, on an amazing sound system in an amazing club from a simply amazing DJ.

He built just things bit by bit as the club filled from a handful to rammed for peaktime ... after 2+ hours (lasting from the 2-hours he broadcasted to the end of the 1st 20 mins of the BBC ibiza specia ! ) I suddenly clicked out of things - dunno if that was the vortex .. but it was magical and awesome, but dark at the same time.

Re: Digweed THIS week

The last time I experienced John turn the, OMG what the feck just happened, someone has opened the gates of hell, and unleashed an assault on all of my being was at the Palace (Avalon) many years ago. he played for 8 to 10 hours... I have been searching for a night like that since. He's come close, and at times had given a glimpse of that, but I haven't experienced the Vortex in many years. I still go see him play and he and Sasha have thrilled and amazed me since. But NOTHING has come close to that NYE set.

yeah, I was there too! It was great!. Obviously; its better experienced at the club under the inflence than sitting at my desk listening through pc speakers lol.

but I do agree that it sounds a bit "unbalanced". Just noticed it.

Now all he needs to do, is put up one of his fucking Mayan shows!!! I think those are the best! Love it when he plays there.
