Is anybody on this list suffering from download angst???

Back when {ms} was a germinating seed, in 2002, way before the big crash, you could download Diggerz show and maybe a special or 2. Now not only does {MS} have that show but we get Hernan's show, and more frequent dedicated exclusive MS mixes like Inkfish.

Then there are so many bloody mixes on the P& R section that it's getting really, really hard to keep up with all the music out there. If you were just to listen to the content that's availabe for D/L weekly on MS you need about 4 hours to listen to it.

And I'm just talking about mix sets, forget about all the internet music sites like Beatport and the like.

What do you peeps do???

Re: Aaarrgghhhh!!!! I Can't Keep Up

I grab a lot of stuff, I don't try to keep up with everything. I have a pretty well-developed sense of taste for what I like and I trust it...if I miss something, then I miss it and don't worry about it; as you said, there is more than enough new stuff coming.

I find that 9 out of 10 things I download are mediocre anyways and they quickly get deleted from my listening rotation.

Re: Aaarrgghhhh!!!! I Can't Keep Up

I have over 1TB of storage on my desktop (regular Windows Vista PC, not a server in any which way). That means I am obtaining way more than I can consume... so what do i do?

Every several weeks (maybe monthly), I stay up for 24 hours straight and listen ONLY to what was acquired since the last all-nighter. If it sucks, I delete then-and-there; if it rocks, I add to my usual always-on playlist.

PS: Same applies for music albums (like the new Radiohead; it's on deck for my next music all-nighter).

Re: Aaarrgghhhh!!!! I Can't Keep Up

I try to download even less though there are more available. By waiting to read the reviews carefully before downloading and keeping in mind that really good mixes are often times not even obviously good the first or even 2nd or 3rd time around:shock:

Re: Aaarrgghhhh!!!! I Can't Keep Up

resistance is futile.

Re: Aaarrgghhhh!!!! I Can't Keep Up

^ who said anything about resistance?

i just need more time so i can bliss out!

the annoying thing is with so much new stuff i cant be hard to go back to decent sets you've already listened to.

Re: Aaarrgghhhh!!!! I Can't Keep Up

^ thats its exactly. Even when I do find a killer set, rarely do I ever go back and listen to it again. There is always more new stuff to listen to. I rationalize it that someday, it will be nice to have a library of sets that I know I like and can just hit shuffle and relax...but when will that day be?

Re: Aaarrgghhhh!!!! I Can't Keep Up

It is a huge problem but i started cutting back from downloading 200 gigs of sets a month to 20 gigs a month i just don't have the room to keep this up.

Re: Aaarrgghhhh!!!! I Can't Keep Up

if its even remotely bad quality sound I just delete it - cos I have so many other high quality sets

but again - i would rather it be this way than the napster days when you could only get bits of sets months after release.

it still shocks me that we can get a DJ set / Radio show the nite after it happens!

I remember when Napster was king you would type in "Sasha and Digweed" and for ages the only hit you got was for the Independence Night set at Simons '96.

Re: Aaarrgghhhh!!!! I Can't Keep Up

Damn I know what you mean. I still got about 60 gigs of new shit and don't make the time to listen to it.

Re: Aaarrgghhhh!!!! I Can't Keep Up

When downloading stuff from P&R, I stick to names I know or am familiar with, or downloads put up by members I trust. The main problem is I'm becoming quite desensitized to what I hear because I listen to music at work, at home, and sometimes when I exercise. Most of the time it becomes background soundtrack. Until something really really good jumps out and grab me. The sad thing is I seldom listen to a set again no matter how good it is 'cos the music keeps coming in.

Re: Aaarrgghhhh!!!! I Can't Keep Up

I'm glad there are other people out there with the same problem I face on a daily basis. It's getting quite ridiculous lately.

I throw all the newly acquired stuff on the "To Listen" playlist, listen to it all once, weed out the stuff that doesn't stand out and throw the good stuff into my regular playlist. I keep hoping I'll be able to revisit my regular playlist but my damn "To Listen" playlist never ceases to dwindle down any. Acquiring new music seems like an addiction problem really. I keep telling myself I need to lay off a little but there's just been so much out there recently. I need more hard drive space but I'm forcing myself not to buy anything because I know it will only enhance my dilemma.

Hi, My name is Jason, and I am addicted to the music.
