Sweet. I have a convertible and I drive it with the top down for most of the year. Dudes make fun of me because they say "convertibles are for chicks", but that's rubbish. Enjoy. :)

Re: Affordable goodness....

[S]Maybe not all convertibles, but an MX5? That's definitely for a chick.[/S]

Re: Affordable goodness....

really ? I could see the Miata being a chiquita's ride but you guys even feel the same for the new /redesigned MX-5's ?

Re: Affordable goodness....

i agree with everything said here... it is definately a flower-vase, might as well get a light blue beetle or a freakin yaris =\

stick with the tl and 3. im saving up for my own 3, hope to get it in a few years time =p

Re: Affordable goodness....

The MX-5 is a pure driver's car. Perfectly balanced and none of this turbo-charged, all-wheel drive trickery that you see from lots of JAP manufacturers.

Re: Affordable goodness....

really ? I was really impressed with how they improved on the previous design with this one. I do agree it was kinda feminine on the earlier models but this one is really well made, the improved head lamps, bulging tire fenders increasing its "bolder" stance, the more pronounced front grill, dual chrome exhausts, the near perfect 50-50 weight distribution, the awesome power retractable hard top....... I could go on about the number of changes they've made to this car that improve it over the last gen. Not to mention the "fun" aspect of it

Kat are you talking about the the 05's or the 06 / 07 pictured above ?

Anyways check Top Gear's take on it

Re: Affordable goodness....

Great driver's car!! Anyone who says otherwise doesn't know what a driver's car is, and is too busy trying to compensate for something.

If anything a real man would drive an MX-5 because he don't give a feck what you think.

Re: Affordable goodness....

i'd buy an classic convertible. Something with a bit of style.

I cant stand all these cc concepts kicking about!!

Re: Affordable goodness....

just bought my wife a Z4. althought its too gay for me to drive, I've taken it out a couple of times and its got some balls and it corners like its on rails. fun to drive, but you wont catch me in it much... a miata though.... eww

Re: Affordable goodness....

when i was in the market, i considered keeping my previous car & buying a miata for the weekend. but just didnt make sense to have 2- 2 door cars sitting the the garage that i would rarely drive(since i work from home). miatas are fun to drive & only require a few tweaks to make it ride on rails. & that engine should last forever.

Re: Affordable goodness....

so here's a lowdown from my test drive of a rag-top with the roof down this past weekend.

The car's fun to drive, no doubt about it. In fact (and dread I say it) nearly as fun s my "3" taking corners + whizzing around. She's nimble to respond to the pedal and her lightweight made it child's play to zig-zag around. I was in Rockville, MD on the inner roads and so couldn't really go past 45 - 50 but I was really really impressed about how well the wind tended to stay outside the car and not in.

Here's what fucked it up for me.....so bad that I completely changed my mind about buying the car. The car rrrumbles when you floor it. Most will say... "well duh that's awesome Kamal, its a roadster, that's bound to happen" and yes that maybe the case or it maybe that I'm getting old and moving towards a more silenced / reserved ride but at the same time, I love to "hear" my engine rumble and not feel it.

It felt as though there was a small tin foil separating the engine compartment and the passenger compartment. Every time I floored it off a stop light, I felt every piston jump in my seat. And I hated it.

So I'm gonna drive my old TL and look for the next fun thing to consider as a potential purchase
