Sasha a "no-show" for Denver, once again, due to "illness"

So after coming down with some crazy stomach bug and the prediction of a storm system blowing through, i still made the 1.5 hr drive down to Denver to go to Vinyl last night to see Sasha back to tear the place up. I ordered tickets ahead of time, so if i backed out due to illness the money and the tickets would have been lost. So we show up right at 11pm when he wouldve gone on to see a sign posted saying "Sasha will not be playing tonight due to illness". Luckily, our tickets are to be refunded and we only had to pay $5 to get in when its normally a $15+ cover...for sasha it was $20-30. To make a long story short, anyone know what happened? A true illness seems like a long shot, maybe he just went on a bender the night before. Cocaine is a helluva drug!

Spooky played all night and eventually through down some great, deep twisted tracks i wouldve expected Sasha to pull out - but he took awhile to get into his groove, that's for sure.

This is the 2nd time now i've shown up at Vinyl for sasha only to have him cancel. the other was due to missing a flight, or couldnt get into denver because of snow, something like that.

hopefully we'll get him back soon.

oh well, next week it's time for www.hallowfreaknween.com

Can't wait. I've seen Sander a bunch, but still havent seen him since he's started doing this DVDJ set thing...should be good. And as far as trance goes, PvD is always a good time any way you slice it.

mother fuck:

i was just posting a big message about a similar occurance and hit the 'back' key and everything got erased (yes i hit the forward key to get back there and by then it was all gone)

sasha did the same thing back in '99 when i planned for 3 months to see him on halloween night in atlanta (yes when he still played records) and cock sucking nick warren showed up instead. Yeah Yeah, i know what most of you will say: "nick warren is a better substitue than sarsha anyday!" well i am hear to tell each and every one of you to go fuck yourself! i was there to see sasha play his records, not nick warren and his. not to mention i planned that trip 3 months aheaad of time and the only warning we got was NONE. we waited around for sasha to spin, and i remember hearing several fucking morons saying "thats sasha spinning now" when in fact it was jimmy van m. so, Mr. 3Hitsaday, i can definitely relate to your goddamn frustration. there is no substitution for greatness, no matter who shows up instead.

Let me be the first, yes, Nick Warren is a better substitute than Sasha any day:lol:

Yeah, i would've taken Nick Warren anyday over Spooky. Mr. Warren is one of the most consistently good DJs i've ever seen. But i was there to see Sasha - nick warren is coming to denver next week ;)

first of all, you're an aussie chick, so you would vote against anything an american lad vote for. :p

yes on a normal day i would take nick warren too, but when sasha still played vinyl (for fucks sake even still cd's) he was weaving magic unlike any other spinner out there. even diggers (on his finest day of vinyl) couldn't come close to sasha (on his weakest day of vinlyl) most times and i've seen digweed 30+ times.

i have a good bourbon buzz right now!

Re: Sasha a "no-show" for Denver, once again, due to "illness"

I would have to agree with Steve on that... Sasha with vinyl in the mid to late 90's was the shit. Magic everytime he play'd.... Simon's in Gainesville, Firestone in Orlando and GrooveJet in Miami. Those were the days...even on his bad nights (New Orlean's twice).. 2 silver boxes of pure magic... one for acetates and the other for regular vinyl & test pressings. I know... I carried those fucking heavy boxes too many times.

Most memorable - 10 am Sunday morning at Simon's with John Digweed. The place is slam packed. Who's who of Florida DJ's (Luis Diaz, Three, Rabbit in the Moon, Icey, Fortier, Jimmy van M, Andy Hughes and more) and many visiting DJ's (Taylor, Sandra Collins, Lysa & Guy Oldhams, Guy Ornandel, one of Deep Dish boys)...Sasha drops the Goldie acetate RITM remix of Inner City Life.

Firestone - I only remember the white space suits and the liquid nitrogen system, then the club blacks out completely, still hear the liquid nitrogen system, white laser and white strobes, kabuki confetti cannons all go off from the guys in white space suits...track I think was "Be as One"

Groove Jet - acetate track was Morgan King's "I'm Free" William Orbit remix, when that shit dropped the whole place fucking went nuts.

Nick Warren is consistent but sometimes he can get boring IMHO.

Re: Sasha a "no-show" for Denver, once again, due to "illness"

On the second Northern Exposure Tour Sasha didn't turn up on several occasions(``working on his artist album was the usual excuse. He was replaced once by Allister Whitehead, once by Guy Ornadel and other times Digweed just played the whole night.

I wouldn't say Warren is a good replacement, but Spooky might be a close second if they played instead of Sasha

Thats a bitch!

Sorry to hear about the no show 3hits. Thats also a bitch. Pickle and I came across that party on a denver calendar and lightly tossed it around for a bit. Straight up Charlie May I would have been pleased with myself. For some reason I thought the whole COMA crew (Duncan Forbes and Barry Jamieson) would be there, which sounded massive.

Re: Sasha a "no-show" for Denver, once again, due to "illness"

That sucks mate. Warren stood in for BT at Turnmills the other year when BT pulled a no show for "management reasons", and Nick very uninspiring ... but Ornandel is hopeless, you have my commiserations on that one !!
