DJ mag top 100...

#46284Post 1 of 40

just a quick question:

How many of you recognise this dj list? How many of you actually have ever voted?

Just asking as every person who is hoping to get recognition have been spamming for votes, never mind whether one likes them or ever has even been on gigs.

I am curious to know if people outside UK are recognising the list enough for the dj's to bother spamming?

I hope I could post a poll, but as i'm newbie here, I can't. (Mods help please?)

Re: DJ mag top 100...

to me, it's just a popularity contest. and as we all know from high school, the most popular isn't the exaclty the best one.

but, if there was a MS top 100, now that's something i would actually pay attention to because the credibility that MS holds is something worth paying attention to.

Re: DJ mag top 100...

personally i voted, think about it, if people like us dont vote then its going to be left to the idiots to vote and this is exactly why certain djs ( no names  ) end up being voted best in the world etc etc

You don't think that a website dedicated to John Digweed is a little slanted in its voting?

Re: DJ mag top 100...

I think it's all ghey as hell and devoid of all relevance or credibility. You can't win because, let's face it, the majority of people out there are imbeciles. It's a law of nature that people will always prefer the most retarded shit in any musical genre.

^^^ lol, just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's shit. Your opinion is not the be all and end all

I vote every year, but I never base who I like on their rating in the poll. I know that Asian countries and a few others will base bookings solely on the DJ's ranking. I

Re: DJ mag top 100...

I've voted every year for the past 5 years.

Very surprisingly Digweed's always been my number one.

I agree with miroslav the shit dj's will always win...and there is no doubt about it its not an oppinion compared to others they are shit...its just that people who generaly vote have not heard all other dj's and that they have not really developed thir criteria for judging properly I'm not saying that I have but I at leats know whats not good.

thats because people take the same attitude as u lot have and dont bother voting

if u vote then u bring other djs to the forefront and those people are more likely to check them out :|

Not always John Digweed & Sasha have both won in the past. And didnt Oakenfold win? When he was good. (no need to reply to the Oakenfold bit, its all been said before)

Re: DJ mag top 100...

I always vote. But most of the Dj's i vote for are lucky if they make the top 250, never mind 100. Jimmy Van M, Dave Seaman Laurent Garnier etc. But then again they don't bother playing the game. You know the one "here's my special mix, and don't forget to vote for me"

#919802Post 18 of 40

Re: DJ mag top 100...

I dunno the more I think I about it the more ridiculous it seems. Asking for people to vote for DJs across many different genres - from trance to prog to minimal to funky booty psytrance, or whatever? Has anyone asked themselves if this even make SENSE to do??

In general, it will always be a trance fest when you do something like this. Trance will always be the most popular because it is the most understandable and accessible EDM style to the masses of people out there who have spent most of their lives listening to pop and rock music (this explains DJ Sammy being the 61st best in the world).

And I mean this seriously, not as a slam against trance music..........ok except for the DJ Sammy part ;)

#919846Post 19 of 40

Re: DJ mag top 100...

^^^it won't always be a trance fest as you say. If the prog and tech electro world would get and vote for their favorite dj's, we'd have another year like in 2001 when Diggers was #1 and Steve Lawler was #8, that was a great year for those dj's. It can happen again.

I'm gonna go vote.

#919850Post 20 of 40

Re: DJ mag top 100...

i always vote. never for big name dj's. i think polls are stupid. i just do it cause it helps dj's get gigs. digweed doesnt need help getting gigs, chloe does... i voted for her... but i also dont vote for djs who dont have a shot in hell in getting in the top 100... just the ones who have a shot to get in there, therefore helping there career and getting gigs...

contests for music is gei imo... dont get me started on the grammys  art is not a competition
You don't think that a website dedicated to John Digweed is a little slanted in its voting?
yeah, but MS has turned into so much more than just Digweed. so, it would be interesting to see a top 100 from MS. just my 0.02.

I?ve voted, but no longer care about this best dj poll thing

#919918Post 25 of 40

Re: DJ mag top 100...

Im mostly put Desyn or JZ in the top position, as I like listening to them more today than I do JD. But I know JD has more of a chance to be on the cover again, so I do what I can for the greater good.

And techelectro is kinda what I produce, and when I go listen to Paul Woolford or JZ, I don't hear crap. I hear delicately crafted tracks with many layers in them. But I've got some dark prog i'm about to unleash on the world.

Re: DJ mag top 100...

I always vote to keep my fav DJs in the Top100 at least. The vote is a popularity contest and besides that too many prog and techno faggots don't get their arse up to vote there are just 10 times more fans who listen to Trance music so even if you could recruit all non-voters to vote, they would surely loose nevertheless. For each Digweed, Zabiela or Hawtin fan there are 10 Armin van Buuren or Tiesto fans so you can't win this game but that's a price I am willing to pay because I would not want to see my artists selling ring tones and appearing in fashion magazines. There is already now enough talking about Digweed's hair.

Re: DJ mag top 100...

Re: DJ mag top 100...

DJ Mag Top 100: Shamed, DJ Mag name the cheats!

Shock! Horror! The annual DJ Mag Top 100 Poll has been rorted by DJs exploiting technology in order to artificially inflate their rankings. Just ask John ‘00’ Fleming or Sander Kleinenberg, they’ve been banging on about it for years. But finally, it’s been DJ Mag themselves who have confronted the problem, bringing the voting process back inhouse and attempting to clean things up.

“This year we’ve been appalled and disgusted to discover suspicious voting irregularities in our Top 100 DJs poll,” it says on the magazine’s website.

“For the first time ever, now that DJmag is wholly independent again, the votes in this year’s poll have been collated in-house, and while in previous years we’ve relied on technology to weed out suspect votes, this year it’s been proved that there’s nothing more effective than the naked eye.”

345,000 votes were cast by email, and publisher James Robertson claims he put his head down and spent a huge amount of time personally looking over the votes. And the results? Several DJs were disqualified from the poll. Among the offenders were DJ Erick Junior from Hong Kong (dubbed the “fastest cheat in the East”), DJ Tiesmi from China, who admitted paying cash for votes, and also the Flash Brothers from Israel, who blamed “friends and family” for the more than 1,300 suspect votes from the same IP address.

As Roberston himself explains, “This year, I made a decision to investigate votes where the same IP address appeared over 50 times for the same person. The chances of the same person getting voted for by 50 different computers each having been allocated the same IP address within a week would be billions to one.”

Controversially, big-name American DJs Christopher Lawrence and DJ Dan were also at the centre of the investigation, both having shared the same marketing manager! “In both their cases, a script was used to bypass our security system. Not only did we get multiple votes from the same IP address, but we got multiple votes from multiple IP addresses — in other words, we received in excess of 50 votes from the same IP address on over 20 occasions.”

If you ever wondered how DJ Dan managed to take the #5 spot as the world’s most popular house DJ, then you wouldn’t be the first. But both him and Lawrence have strongly denied any involvement in vote rigging.

Dan told DJ Mag that he takes the matter very seriously. “My assistant and I confronted my former marketing manager via telephone. He strongly denied any wrongdoing, but had no credible explanation for the improper voting. Christopher Lawrence, who used the same marketing person this year, reported similar voting problems. When I discovered the common link was our marketing person, I immediately terminated him.”

So the question begs, if such cheating can happen in the DJ Mag Poll then why not Australia’s own inthemix50? According to Andre Lackman, Managing Director for inthemix, he’s sought to avoid this since the very beginning. “We recognise that polls like these are enticing targets for vote cheating, that’s why we’ve been doing similar security checks on the inthemix50 voting since year one. While we haven’t named and shamed, each year we have either reduced a DJs total votes or disqualified them altogether due to vote rigging,” he says.

“The inthemix 50 voting system much more difficult to scam than DJ Mag’s. We require each vote to be confirmed by email as well as using a CAPTCHA system to disable script based voting.”
