Re: where were you 6 years ago 9-11-01

I was in a hospital getting the bad news about my Mum's cancer. 9/11 has a slightly different significance to me. Especially as in Britain 9/11 is the 9th November - my wife's birthday. My mum's hospital bed was on the top floor and we were watching the planes come in over London until they were diverted wondering if any of them would go down.

Taking a shower in the beginning of my 25th birthday... not quite a good day for celebration.

Re: where were you 6 years ago 9-11-01

In downtown (but not "lower") Manhattan, waking up... insanely enough, I had spent the evening of the 10th at the WTC visiting my friend's offices (Tower 2, 77th floor). He lost a vintage (from the 40's) set of binoculars.

When they happened, I knew right away that classes (in college) were canceled for the week. Insane way to start a semester ... and I still feel bad for the freshmen who were already jittery for being in such an urban environment.

I was asleep like any normal westcoaster and a friend called me up and told me to turn on the tv. My wife hadn't called me up to check it out as she respected the fact that I'd gone to bed only 30 minutes prior. That was an interesting day.
Made the BONEHEAD move of routing my flight through London from Nigeria yesterday...visiting Heathrow on the anniversary of 9/11...not a brilliant idea.
Because it was more empty than usual? Flight attendance was overall down that day. The four airports I was in on Tuesday were very empty.

I was on a day out with my colleagues in the red light district in Amsterdam, which was strange enough in itself. We got word about what happened and we got word about it when sitting down in a bar. Thought it was an accident until we heard about the second one later, that's when it struck everyone something happened we had never seen before...the weirdest thing was seeing all the grounded planes' tails in a row when passing Schiphol airport on the way home.

I was in Boston at my friend's place, packing for a flight home to Buffalo, and then driving across the border into Canada, after a last minute weekend deal. My flight was supposed to be at noon, so I was packing up and watching Good Morning America, and basically saw everything on tv from the beginning. I didn't get home until Friday.

Re: where were you 6 years ago 9-11-01

I was working at a paint shop at the moment. It was a really slow day (it usually was during the autumn) and i first heard about it on the radio and then tried to read about it on both swedish and american newspapers but i remember many of them not beeing able to handle the massive load of users.

Spent the rest of the day after work watching the news and reading up on it, watching thoose planes hit the WTC. Still to this day it sends shivers down my spine.
