i hope that research actually helps the quality of lives of some people besides being some cool ish i get to read on the board ... there are some real scientists trying to get funding for research to HELP US ALL ...

Sometimes things that seem to mundane and blatant in our eyes are the building blocks to deeper and more recognizable research. There is no doubt that the scientists and/or researchers that discovered this are "real" scientists (as you so eloquently put it). For instance, this research could prove to lead to new language arts education techniques, teaching illiterates to read and write, or prove to be a stepping stone to another function of our brain that we've yet to map and explore.

I wasn't saying that this research itself would make it easier to teach people to read and write but it may open the door to some other techniques. Believe me the end will justify the means.
