Hi

I haven?t DJ'd for a couple of years now but I have rediscovered my passion and was intending to get some CDJ mk3?s and DJM 800. Before I do I just wanted to check general opinions do CD?s have a limited lifespan with the introduction of Ableton Live and the new Sasha inspired mixers, which to be fair his Maven is one cool piece of kit. And if CDJ?s are the way to go will there be a mk 4 out soon as 3 has now been out since 2005. Would appreciate some help!!

I've also rediscovered my passion after 3 years away. Just bought 2 denon s3500's, best thing i have done in a while. Even put 2 7in vinyl on the platter, it gives a 'real' feel about it. Check them out as i found they have as many features as needed. And the spinning platter looks great.

i've seen those denons...didn't care for them too much. I didn't like the pitch bend buttons on them. I love the pitch bend buttons on the 1K. But now since I've used CDJ-1K's so much I'm used to the platter now...

Looking forward to hearing a mix bro.

Re: Advice needed CDJ?s or Ableton Live

Ableton doesn't really follow the paradigm of "DJ'ing". It's not the future, it's the present (Ableton is on version 6 now). So for those that really love to use it and can do amazing things with it, great.

But yeah, CDJ's aren't going anywhere anytime soon. The CDJ-1000MK3 came out last year, and as long as Pioneer sticks to their usual upgrade cycle, they shouldn't be upgraded for another year or two.

In any case, I have the MK2's, and nothing about the MK3's is good enough to make me want to upgrade my decks... so I'm sure you'll be happy :)

Re: Advice needed CDJ?s or Ableton Live

im an ableton whore and huge computer geek.. i LOVE edm..

that being said, i dont really want to "dj" per say.. just put ntogether ideas and share em.

if i wanted to be a real dj, i'd get serato. ;)

almost the real thing is good enough for me. vinyl! but cdjs are tight too, you still get that DJ FEEL! you can groove to the music..

CDJ's of any caliber and brand aren't going away anytime soon. Vinyl hasn't left yet, why should they?

Re: Advice needed CDJ?s or Ableton Live

If you enjoy actually grooving and mixing with something PHYSICAL (ie tinkering with nobs) then the CDJ is best for you. If you want more CONTROL and want to click a mouse, go for Ableton :)

Re: Advice needed CDJ?s or Ableton Live

personally i couldnt handle not being able to touch the music, it has driven me mad since i switched to ableton, though i still use it and recommend it highly, the fact that its not tangiable swayed me towards a combination.

Thanks all!

I think I need to work harder and try to get both.

That's what i've done! I started with decks, got cd'js {mk2} and now i'm using a controller for mixing in ableton and traktor.

I like having all three options at my finger tips as some nights i can be a lazy prick and not have to leave my computer chair.

I call it evolution :p
