is the man on form or what this year! I think most of us would qualify him as a good dj, but the sets he's put out, particularly the those on hybridized, and esp. the global dj broadcast one, is just smokin'! I first heard him back at the 2003 WMC and didn't think much of it (compared to hybrid who played right after him). Even some of his sets from last year seemed to be mediocre tracks sewn together. I think there's a huge difference in his sound this year and I can't wait to see what the rest of this year will bring! Anyone else notice this?

(btw, did Nick Warren ever do a dj tour with Jody?)
(btw, did Nick Warren ever do a dj tour with Jody?)
i think the last time they did that was after the release of Don't Look Now, back in 2004. Omi (the vocalist from the album) also toured with them and did live vocals at the shows.

they both seem to have taken such different directions since then. i still dig 'em both a great deal though!

Re: Jody Wisternoff

that was a dj set? I thought it was a live act tour. ah well, his set for proton radio yesterday was fantastic

#905873Post 4 of 31

Re: Jody Wisternoff

the tour was both live and djing

Re: Jody Wisternoff

ahh, my bad. misread your post and just thought you were asking about the last time they toured together. from what i remember though, when they played in Chicago they did more than just live stuff... but i was pretty drunk off red wine that night so i'm not 100% sure.

Re: Jody Wisternoff

I disagree about last year. I've been listening to his sets for a few years, some of them I like others I don't. But I think last year he started to go in a different direction and I think he was trying to get a handle on it, educating himself along the way (so to speak). I've enjoyed listening to his sets and hearing him grow and it seems he is more refined now than ever. He's already in my top 5 and has been for a long time, but I don't think he gets enough credit for the excellent job he does.

Re: Jody Wisternoff

realy enjoying some of his remixes as of late.. very similar sounding, but the formula definitley works for me.

Re: Jody Wisternoff

seriously liking what this guys puting out right now, one of the best songs of this year has come from a set of his ( for me that is )

Ricky Stone - Pure - D Dub Remix

Re: Jody Wisternoff

I also enjoy his mixes a lot lately (the Global DJ mix was off the hook imo) and I'm listening to the new Way out there episode now where he starts with Underworld - Crocodile which isn't a bad start track either. :LoveYou:

Re: Jody Wisternoff

He's one of my favorite DJs. I've been following his sound for a couple of years now, though his mix on Digweed's show last year was what really won me over.

I don't like everything he plays, but he does a good job of mixing and blending tracks from all different genres, and he's always playing fresh, upfront material.

His June and July Way Out There mixes were very good.

Re: Jody Wisternoff

You could say I haven't lived cos I'v only just started listening to Jody's sets the last couple of weeks and I can well and truely say I'm 'hooked'. The proton set from July is bad ass and I'm lovin that shit everyday and night.

He's got my vote.

if you ever wondered what that funky track was that follows Crocodile... yeah... that's Jody's new single.

good sets from this guy on hybridsed

Re: Jody Wisternoff

I'm in the minority here and discovered Jody as a DJ back in 1999! I think I preferred him from 1999 up to 2003 because he didn't stick to any formula OR genre (house, downtempo, breaks). I understand why he does it to create a brand and ensure more gigs but his carefree era was my fave. Of course, he churned out plenty unique mixes this year for Danceradio, including a Shut up & Dance tribute, some old skool hardcore, old skool jungle and chillout, so I really don't have room to complain. ;)

Re: Jody Wisternoff

OK, I lied...it was probably in 2000 that I discovered his DJ'ing cohorts. Here's the set that really caught my attention in the beginning:

http://www.hybridized.org/sets/122

 1. Frankie Goes to Hollywood - Welcome to the Pleasuredome (Nalin & Kane Remix)
 2. ?
 3. Pascal Vegas - I Know You Like It
 4. James Holden - Horizons (Way Out West Dub)
 5. ?
 6. Kerbcrawler - Crack Whore (Quinn Whalley Mix)
 7. Way out West - The Fall
 8. Ultraviolet - Heaven (Way Out West Mix)
 9. PQM - The Flying Song
 10. ?
 11. Joshua Ryan - Pistolwhip (Way Out West Mix)
 12. ?
 13. Way Out West - Hypnotise
 14. ?
 15. Moby - Porcelain (Futureshock Remix)

(could do with some IDs ;))

Re: Jody Wisternoff

I swear the track at the 9 minute mark (track #5) is Holy Ghost Inc. - Mad Monks On Zink. It has the same sample and baseline and I would need to verify that, I could very well be wrong on this as I haven't listened to the 12" in a verrrrrrrrrrry longgggggggg time! Re: Jody Wisternoff

That's the one I used to play, but on the one I posted from Discogs it also has all of the remixes. I have the remix 12" which also has the one you posted red1 (and the one I played). But it's been so long since I listened to it that I'll need to listen to the other remixes to verify.

Re: Jody Wisternoff

Good work, dredd...I'm hearing some similarities in the version on the Trackitdown site. Gonna' have to track down the early versions!

Re: Jody Wisternoff

I'll look for the record this weekend and maybe record a sample of the mix.

Re: Jody Wisternoff

Funky, The tune at 9 minutes is James Holden-Horizons(WOW dub), you own it , which is why it sounds so fimiliar(not sure if MM on Z were sampled for it though). Its on the INCredible label-brown and orange sleeve.

Thanks Bill! I need to go digging now! :D

Re: Jody Wisternoff

Jody is terrific. Although I can see how people dislike his formula, I have a feeling he is veering back towards house in a James Zabiela sort of way. Of course, i only say because his June 2006 Proton mix started with a movie clip...

Don't sweat it, Jody did the first three mixes at like 2 minutes apiece. I just counted, but also I'm a huge fan of that tune. The Bassline in it just rocks

That is one of WOW's best mixes, though, and the dub (as heard here) is even more scrumptious than the mix. :)

Re: Jody Wisternoff

I was catching up on Numb3rs last night, and they started off with "Melt". That put me in the mood for Way out west. I am listening to the Global DJ Broadcast Guest Mix right now. I am really enjoying it.

Any thing else out there? What is "Way Out There"?

Most definitely one of the best!
