Everyone says that you got to do drugs to enjoy or create good music:shock: for the longest time that was what I went by. about four years ago I quit using. but you know what i didn't stop enjoying the music. what do you think? how was your experience quitting? do you still party like before?

Re: Drugs & Music

I don't know anyone who says you have to do drugs to enjoy or create good music................

Re: Drugs & Music

I've never been into pill popping or snorting stuff up me nose. Just drinking and smoking some weed and I always enjoy the music. Mind you, I can only last until about 5 - 5:30, sometimes 6am and then I crash, time to go bed. The music is the high!!:p

Re: Drugs & Music

Got into music before I discovered drugs in my 20s, and I'll be the first to admit that the drugs enhanced and intensified my perception and feel for the music, though it was working with what's already there. Good thing I started out with Hooj, Renaissance, NE, etc; and not Tiesto

But no more of anything for me, the high just isn't worth the down anymore.

Re: Drugs & Music

^ exactley the same for me.

at the end of the day its your perception that counts. the drugs just enhance it.

Re: Drugs & Music

i had terrible anxiety attacks for a few years because i tripped my balls off in high school. my vision is fucked up because of it too. totally wasn't worth it at all, but for some reason eating blotter with my lunch seemed like a good idea when i was 17. i never really did drugs just to listen to music though

Re: Drugs & Music

I enjoy music without them. BTW, I wouldn?t produce no music if I?m not totally sober; too many controlls make me loose

Re: Drugs & Music

Well I quit drinking and using drugs last summer ( wasnt a big junky though) , and I ve been feeling very good since then , but a joint and couple of beers when seeing a big DJ will always be pleasent.

Haven't touched anything for over 4 years. Spent 18 hours @ Space (Closing Party) just drinking & smoking cigarettes. The music is enough for me these days. :D

#895033Post 12 of 38

Re: Drugs & Music

The music should be the only reason to go see a dj. It used to piss me off when I would go to clubs and kids would get all fucked up and not even know who is playing. Drugs enchance the music but for me it was never the reason. I have not did anything for like 5 yrs expect drink. Recently I have quit drink as well. It is just not that fun anymore.

Re: Drugs & Music

Everything in moderation though as you get older day 2 and day 3 get a bit harder to deal with. Might knock a tab once and a while just to hit the ol sensors but it's all about the music.

If these are the only ways you can create or enjoy music, you are in the scene for the wrong reasons....I know many producers and I don't know any that get high to create a track....and whoever says you have to do drugs to listen to this type of music is an idiot

Even an all-nighter with alcohol and dancing fucks me over the next day  I'm even considering quiting alcohol! :what

Re: Drugs & Music

i've never used drugs when i've gone out. the music IS my drug. it sounds cliched, but nonetheless true.

Re: Drugs & Music

I love the way people differentiate between drugs and alchohol. Alchohol IS a drug, albeit legal, and I would suggest would be worse to the system than one illegal at least! But, as someone said, all things in moderation!!

#895193Post 21 of 38

Re: Drugs & Music

I have gone to events both ways, and I find that I enjoyed and remembered the night more when I was sober as opposed to fubared. There has been only a few times when the drugs complimented the music. And what has been stated already, moderation is the key.

Re: Drugs & Music

I tend to get incredibly sleepy in clubs and drugs helps me stay awake. I can enjoy nights out without them easily enough tho.
alcohol (even small amounts) gives me a worst hangover than E :/
Me too!! In fact only alchohol gives me a hangover.!!

Re: Drugs & Music
Me too!! In fact only alchohol gives me a hangover.!!
true dat. i feel worse on day 2 with alcohol that i ever did with 'e'

plus, it's cheaper doing 'e'

$20 for one pill that will last you about 4 hours or $11 for a shot of vodka, and i'm talking about the cheap vodka, plus you gotta tip the bartender, so about $13 per drink.

since i quit doing 'e', going out and getting drunk, spending $100 bucks on drinks sucks ass.

now, i'm not sure if this is okay to say this but i've been able to drive home every single time i've done 'e' with no problems unlike with drinking, shit, i need a designated driver after 3 drinks!

just wondering if anyone else experienced that driving home after a club is easier with 'e' than alcohol?

MAN!!!! Those pink Mitsubishi's on the left were the shit back in the day. MMMM MMMM MMMM BITCH!!! Those Mercedes were alright too, but damn those Mitsubishi's would leave you laying in the floor gasping for breath and unable to do anything but laugh for about an hour after they hit ya.

Oh, yeah. I don't have to do drugs to enjoy music. I don't really do drugs any more, but I don't do any less either!! I don't have to do drugs to enjoy anything, but on the flip side of that, I do enjoy pretty much everything when I am on them.

#895419Post 27 of 38

Re: Drugs & Music

Hmmm, I don't think it's a good idea to drive after anything!! Just for the record my most amazing night ever was while I was NOT under the influence of anything!! I don't think it enhances the music so much as makes you less self conscious and able to appreciate more. Bad music always sounds bad.!!

How the heck could a producer use music software/hardware and create all the FX and sequence properly when they're off their face. To make music requires some sort of control and discipline. I've spoken to many professional musicians re: drugs and performing music and their opinions are uniform and unequivocal: On the drugs you have sloppier timing, make more mistakes and what's worse because you're so totally disinhibited you don't give a shit about the mistakes, consequently you never get invited back to the same venue again.

Re: Drugs & Music

Drugs helped me discover this music. Now, I'm old and don't do drugs, but just enjoy the music. So you don't need the drugs, but they sure make it more fun.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

That was the same boat I was in and now I just love the music straight sober, my body can't handle it anymore.

Re: Drugs & Music

for me its all about the music. maybe at an earlier point i needed a pill but i can get just as high on the music now and i love it. if i were to do anything, its just an added bonus.

lets just say i drove to miami for the wmc empty handed, quite ok with the fact that i wouldnt do any drugs. and lets just say that i didnt exactly stick to my plan nor did i leave disappointed, lol.

Re: Drugs & Music

I was fortunate enough to enjoy electronic music before pills. I hate it when someone says they have to eat one to listen to "techno". Nonsense. Alcohol, pills, shrooms, lsd and weed can make the tunes sound a little better but for me it is far from a requirement.
