Went to see Laurent yesterday at the Montreux Jazz Festival play in a intimate club and for free and let me tell you this guy is on a whole diffrent level, he took us on a musical trip ranging from minimal to techno to rock n roll to Drum and Base for 3 hours and he got the whole place jumping in the air and going nuts, the club was supposed to close at 5 am and the festival roganizers where busting his balls to cut the music down but he went on until 6:30 am. He was jumping around and dancing with everybody, go see the old man if you get the chance to see him.

Laurent Fu%$ing Garnier
Re: Laurent Fu%$ing Garnier
twice this man changed my musical taste for the better when i was younger, he doesnt have the same thing as he used to imo
Re: Laurent Fu%$ing Garnier
Might not have the same thing as he used to, but even now he certainly devliers more than most DJs from the past or present
Rumored to be playing NYE here, fingers crossed
Re: Laurent Fu%$ing Garnier
The amazing thing was seeing him interact and talking to his cdrs and mixer, and yes he delivers better than 99% of the dj out there right now, again go see him if he is around.
Re: Laurent Fu%$ing Garnier
i'd love to see Garnier live. his excess luggage mix cds are some of my faves - so varied.
i remember reading his new album is improv jazz or something?
Re: Laurent Fu%$ing Garnier
He played some good stuff in the last set i heard....
Re: Laurent Fu%$ing Garnier
Haven't seen anyone will on a pair of pioneers before!
Re: Laurent Fu%$ing Garnier
Laurent Garnier & his label are legendary. Digweed is a bedroom dj compared to Garnier. I've seen him live numerous times and he always sets new standards. RESPEK aight?
Re: Laurent Fu%$ing Garnier
And he never gets off the decks!
Re: Laurent Fu%$ing Garnier
He wasn't bad when he was in Australia earlier this year. Granted the mans a legend, and you can't fault his technical ability nor his passion, I did the draw the line when he dropped Nancy Sinatra's these boots are made for walkin though! Eclecticism has its limits...Still glad I caught him though, it was a very different experience....
Re: Laurent Fu%$ing Garnier
^^^ Can you post in dark grey next time? :p

Re: Laurent Fu%$ing Garnier
It's invisible ink 8)
Re: Laurent Fu%$ing Garnier
LG is phenomenal. I've had some great nights with him on the decks.
Defo check his Laborotoire CDs if you like the pounding techno too!
Re: Laurent Fu%$ing Garnier
^^^ Add his album "30" to that, effin' wicked!
Re: Laurent Fu%$ing Garnier
even shot in the dark was a good album, sounds a little dated now but some classics on there
Re: Laurent Fu%$ing Garnier
Glad some of you still agree with me, as I was saying he had the club with around 300 people jumping like crazy, from time to time he sprayed the crowed with beer, the only bad thing about the night is that he is promoting some new young people from Detroit who looked more Somlais than black Americans playing shit shit dance music, and sometimes raping over the music, I was about to leave until I saw him getting drunk at the bar talking to people, and from the first track he dropped he owned the crowed, the funny thing is that towards the end as I said before the festival organizers came to tell him to stop and he was telling them more and dropping an even bigger bomb of a track and pointing at the crowed saying look I can't leave the crowed like this , it took an 1h30 min for him to finally decide to stop. definetly a legend.
Re: Laurent Fu%$ing Garnier
LG is the a very evil man, that can take on on a ride you?ll never forget. Love his Excess Luggage cd, still give all 5 cds a spin from time to time.
Re: Laurent Fu%$ing Garnier
Dub f'n central take some time off and just listen to this set so much space and feeling.

Re: Laurent Fu%$ing Garnier
need to check his stuff out..
Re: Laurent Fu%$ing Garnier
Fan of many of his sets too.
Work for me.
Re: Laurent Fu%$ing Garnier
unbeleivable dj - my top 3 garnier nights have to be;
-
Cream - 7 hr set in the annexe. Took the roof off, staggering mix of techno/electro/progressive. powerful stuff, nearly cried when he played chemical brothers at 5am
-
voodoo birthday, liverpool (cant remember which one) mind numbing techno - relentless
-
space, ibiza circa 99 i think - all a bit of a blur, but all i can remember is crispy bacon being played almost on a loop for what seemed like hours... genius mind warper
see him dj at all costs

Yup. Quality disc, but not a patch on 'Unreasonable Behaviour' imo.
Re: Laurent Fu%$ing Garnier
I adore Garnier!!!
I would go and see him whenever I could at The End for his marathon sets. I've since moved back to the US... and have been really bummed about not being able to see him anymore (he gave up playing the US due to visa issues, I think)... HOWEVER (drum roll, please), there is a light at the end of the tunnel... I saw that Liquified has him listed for a gig in November in Atlanta. While I'm not in Atlanta (and would rather not make that trek)... it makes me hopeful that he'll hit other US cities too - namely LA!!! (fingers crossed, legs crossed, elbows, eyes and knees too...).
He's my favourite DJ to see play out... so much energy, so many genres, such a good time.
Re: Laurent Fu%$ing Garnier
Garnier is this side of the pond later on this year:

Re: Laurent Fu%$ing Garnier
Holy Sh*t!!! About fu#%ing time! I've only been waiting about 6 or 7 years since the last time he played here.
Re: Laurent Fu%$ing Garnier
^^^ without wishing to be a Debbie Downer, his visa issues have f-ed his last few trips to the States at the last moments.
Heres hoping tho!!
Re: Laurent Fu%$ing Garnier
^Believe me I know all about that having had tix to his last 2 cancelled gigs in new york :(
I'm just praying he actually has taken care of his shit already so this may not be a problem as the dates approach.

What kinda visa issues? The same one that plagued ... Jay Tripwire (this is waaaaay back)?
Re: Laurent Fu%$ing Garnier
nope, first time he said that the postal truck carrying his visa was blown up (this has been known to happen in France) and the next time, the US work visa rules were changed and after filling in the old form, he refused to fill in the new form which wanted to know quite a lot of personal financial information (bank accts, homes, etc.)
Re: Laurent Fu%$ing Garnier
He is in Florida mid November!
WOOT!!!!!
