I got myself a pair of egg machines and since these fuckers nod their heads like Sasha & Diggers, the name choice was obvious

They better have some breakfast ready for me tomorrow or there will be chicken soup on the menu (nah, kidding).

Re: Sasha & Digweed in my yard

Nice work Kinky! I've had chooks in my yard since I've been very young. Currently have about 8 I think.

Their eggs are infinitely better than what you buy at the store, and always a constant supply. Give them plenty of space. To me that coop looks too small. We give our ones a whole shed, and a very big fenced off area, and generally throughout the day we just let them roam around the yard (quite a big yard).

When night comes they'll find their own way to the coop and put themselves to bed. They're always happy and they reward us with pretty awesome eggs.

Re: Sasha & Digweed in my yard

I'd let 'em roam on the entire yard, but I down want to step into shit on the terrace and the lawn. I might have to enlarge their weekend house yes, but for the rest they have plenty of space to so their chicken business.

As for store eggs: fuck that shit! If you look at the pic below, you'll understand why I don't buy eggs in stores. I used to get them from my parents' chickens before I got my own.

Re: Sasha & Digweed in my yard

I don't know much about chickens, but aren't those both hens? Don't you need a rooster somewhere in the mix to get eggs?

I haven't had a store bought egg for about 15 years! :D Unless I'm eating out or at someone's house.

You need a rooster if you want the eggs fertilised for some baby chooks. Only hens are needed for normal eggs. I had a rooster once. Pretty noisy creatures :what
I don't know much about chickens, but aren't those both hens? Don't you need a rooster somewhere in the mix to get eggs?
Women are on the rag every month, hens plop an egg on a daily base.

And I agree with Syntax: roosters make too much noise. Don't feel like waking up every night at 4AM :what

@ Resonator: dude, the cock attached to me is sufficient. You know it because you've grabbed it when you were here :p

Thats actually quite fascinating...chickens must eat a whole lot, I mean there is a fair amount of "material" in an egg...and to make one every day....its like the equivalent of me taking a dump the size of my head every morning! Do you know how much food that would be!

#894068Post 20 of 29

Re: Sasha & Digweed in my yard

I don't care about the quantity of food, I'd be worried about my ass would look if I laid an egg every day :D

... but I guess your sphincter is used to stretching eh ;)

#894326Post 21 of 29

Re: Sasha & Digweed in my yard

When the chickens start to lay you'll know about it. Once they've laid the egg they'll walk around for hours clucking non-stop to let you know about the pain they're in :)

Re: Sasha & Digweed in my yard

^^^ yeah, chicken PMS :D

Re: Sasha & Digweed in my yard

^^ sweet

Is the taste really that much different?

#895411Post 28 of 29

Re: Sasha & Digweed in my yard

Not very much, but it sure is healthier: you don't wanna know what those poor chickens in industrial set ups eat (lower quality food, antibiotics, ...).
Is the taste really that much different?
You wouldn't really know it unless you were really thinking about it, but there's a definite blandness (and lack of colour in the yoke) of store bought eggs.
