Re: Q: FIRST EVER "TECHNO" or "ELECTRONIC"?
it was either "James Brown Is Dead" by L.A. Style, the Keoki remix of the Speed Racer theme, or the jungle remix of the Sesame Street theme song. I can't remember which, but it's what I grew up on in Chicago listening to B96 (the killer bee!) in the very early 90's. Good memories btw
Re: Q: FIRST EVER "TECHNO" or "ELECTRONIC"?
^^^dude, if rep power meant anything i'd give you a fucking zillion of it for your post....it must be the midwest or something...LA Style - James Brown is Dead was the afterhour basement jam back in the day, back when i was into all the Twisted records.
Re: Q: FIRST EVER "TECHNO" or "ELECTRONIC"?
I don't remember.... I guess it was something like tangerine dream, from de "white eagle" album....
Re: Q: FIRST EVER "TECHNO" or "ELECTRONIC"?
It was a cd with the word "Beatz" on it with the song "Mr. Kirk's Nightmare" if anyone know's what cd I'm talking about, I would be super super stoked! Also Keoki of course...
Re: Q: FIRST EVER "TECHNO" or "ELECTRONIC"?
I don't remember the first piece of "techno"/"electronic" music that I heard. It was probably the a remix of the Miami Vice Theme or some Ken Davis ambient stuff at the dentist. The first electronic music that I remember that actually made an impact and that I remember was The Other Side - (Sasha and Maria Nayler )which I first heard in 1997 when S & D used it as the opening track on the JJJ Mixup - Northern Exposure Tour. Haven't looked back since.....
Re: Q: FIRST EVER "TECHNO" or "ELECTRONIC"?
For me it was listening to the early Metalheadz releases in 1995 (at the tender age of 13!) Totally fell in love with Goldie's Timeless album which is still awesome to this day.
Kemistry (RIP) and Storm on the John Peel (RIP) show, what a set that was, had a tape recording that i listened to religiously for years. Adam F's early days (Circles), Bad Company, all good stuff. Also around this time, Super Sharp Shooter...
Remember staying up late to listen to John Peel's show, he is my main musical influence to this day.. totally eclectic, totally off the wall, totally fresh sounds. Also the old "one in the jungle" show which was on radio one and started about 1995.
Re: Q: FIRST EVER "TECHNO" or "ELECTRONIC"?
I owe most of my early electronic education to Toasty. Dude had a massive electronic cd collection in college. KMFDM, Orb, Curve. It wore off on me.
Re: Q: FIRST EVER "TECHNO" or "ELECTRONIC"?
Depending on Your definition - it was probably Cars by Gary Numan
Re: Q: FIRST EVER "TECHNO" or "ELECTRONIC"?
prolly wink's 'higher state' first caught my ear.
Re: Q: FIRST EVER "TECHNO" or "ELECTRONIC"?
First was LSD is the bomb or some earl KMFDM stuff. First cd I bought was the ORB- Adventures of the Ultraworld or something like that.

 You hit the nail on that one! I can even remember where I heard it at. 8) It had such an impact on me that I just stopped and listened to the song!
Re: Q: FIRST EVER "TECHNO" or "ELECTRONIC"?
Adam F - (Circles)
if you don't own it, buy it. this is one of the best edm albums that has ever been produced. hands down. I would put this toe to toe with any other edm album out there. This should have been named Timeless, imo.

I imagine you mean his LP "Colours", which has the Circles track on it. For me, Colours, Goldie's Timeless, and LTJ Bukem's Logical Progression are the holy trinity of DnB. Colours is amazing, and I would rank it just behind the other 2 albums I just mentioned.
Also, I immediately thought of Gary Numan's Cars when I read the topic.
The first definite techno/electronic song that caught my ear was probably LaTour - "People are still having sex." I saw the video on MTV when I was a kid, and I was quite intrigued. I heard someone play this song on a mix I DLed awhile ago and it instantly brought back memories.
As far as the song that got me into listening to EDM, that's an easy answer: Orbital - Halcyon + On + On. What an amazing track.
Re: Q: FIRST EVER "TECHNO" or "ELECTRONIC"?
Haddaway - What is Love
On Saturday Night Live.
BABY DON"T HURT ME....NO MORE !
Re: Q: FIRST EVER "TECHNO" or "ELECTRONIC"?
Orbital - Adnans
Still one of my favorite tunes.
Re: Q: FIRST EVER "TECHNO" or "ELECTRONIC"?
That Orbital track was one of my firsts. The Mortal Kombat soundtrack ftw
Re: Q: FIRST EVER "TECHNO" or "ELECTRONIC"?
Platapus - Art of Trance. Orb - Fluffy little clouds
Re: Q: FIRST EVER "TECHNO" or "ELECTRONIC"?
Some friends dancing to acid at a house party circa '90, if its dance music. Tangerine Dreams, Kraftwerk, Yello and the like since god knows when, say 1987. ;)
Re: Q: FIRST EVER "TECHNO" or "ELECTRONIC"?
Kraftwerk - "The Robots"
Re: Q: FIRST EVER "TECHNO" or "ELECTRONIC"?
We had a radio station here in the LA area that played tons of great old electro and the sorts back in the late 70s/early 80s. The stuff that made your ass shake all night long. I couldn't name any of the tracks at the moment but when I hear them, I know them. You just can't lose those memories.
Re: Q: FIRST EVER "TECHNO" or "ELECTRONIC"?
Tangerine Dream - phaedra
Re: Q: FIRST EVER "TECHNO" or "ELECTRONIC"?
How about Planet Rock,Tour De France, World Destruction, and Theives Like Us. New Order and the electro break tracks really got me hook on dance music and of course Chemical Brothers: Exit Planet Dust.

Re: Q: FIRST EVER "TECHNO" or "ELECTRONIC"?
uhm it was some LTJ Bukem stuff :-) great memories...
Re: Q: FIRST EVER "TECHNO" or "ELECTRONIC"?
Good knows, but probably something on Peel or Annie Nightgale's request show. Did see the Orb in Cardiff and Prodigy at Swansea Ritzy (Experience tour with Ratpack supporting) while at uni.
Re: Q: FIRST EVER "TECHNO" or "ELECTRONIC"?
it was originally disco that got me hooked on dance music...I was playing my mom's LPs of Saturday Night Fever and Grease endlessly (hell I was only 5 or 6 at the time ;) ), but from there I was fortunate to have heard WBLS & Kiss Radio during the 80s here in NY where the best of best of the underground NYC scene would come and play. DJs like Timmy Regisford (headed the BLS show), Tony Humphries (headed the kiss show), David Morales, Frankie Knuckles, Larry Levan and many more, sometimes even live from some of the best clubs of the day.
From there, I was hooked...
Re: Q: FIRST EVER "TECHNO" or "ELECTRONIC"?
The first EDM album I ever bought because of one track I loved was "Bites" from Skinny Puppy in 1985 (had to check the discography and was surprised how old it is already). The track "Assimilate" was huge in discos here in Germany.
Re: Q: FIRST EVER "TECHNO" or "ELECTRONIC"?
Mine was more a pop/hip-hop/disco introduction to EDM... I loved my Breakdance I & II movie soundtracks .... especially "TOUR DE FRANCE" performed by KRAFTWERK & "Electric Boogaloo" performed by Ollie and Jerry.
Re: Q: FIRST EVER "TECHNO" or "ELECTRONIC"?
grew up in ny/fl, so i was exposed to the whole freestyle thing, which sorta later fused into the breaks scene out here, but the first techno that really caught my ear...prodigy- fat of the land (around 96/97). i still listen to it from time to time...
Re: Q: FIRST EVER "TECHNO" or "ELECTRONIC"?
First track: Kraftwerk - Das Model in the early 80?s
First album: Kraftwerk - Man Machine
Hybrex
Re: Q: FIRST EVER "TECHNO" or "ELECTRONIC"?
I remember a tape that my father has with some Jean-Michel Jarre (might be Oxygen), Giorgio Moroder - The Chase and other several names that are now lost in the spiral of time.
